@@sleepy_froggos 1. i don’t take it as rude. 2. voluntary tics can be found in a lot of different disorders, ranging from autism to ADHD to anxiety and many more. it is absolutely not limited to autism.

Sometimes cuddles are triggering & I tic against my partner, like including his hand in it (tapping against his hand), or if I put a leg over his then it often triggers my dystonic butt cheek tic😭. But other times cuddling relaxes me, especially if he holds me super tight almost like a restraint

I have facial tics that only recently emerged in the last couple years, and it is so frustrating when I'm trying to have a nice conversation with someone I love but my face just automatically makes expressions of negativity. Tics are bad and annoying and need to just get right on outta here.

This. Is. Massively. True. From trying to be still, to being completely unable to because the pressure is on to NOT tic, so of course you HAVE to tic. And it feels exactly like ants under the skin. All wiggy! Had a doc visit today and those seem to be the worst environments for me because of my tics. >.< Full blown tic attack while trying to get a mammogram. THAT SUCKED
I’ve had akithesia, and I can only imagine that’s how it feels. Like there’s nothing that you can do to ease the pressure to move, and even when you do, it only eases for a few seconds. I feel you. ❤
To anyone who stuggles with trying to be still. There is no shame in moving, even squirming like a happy kid when you're snuggling with your partner. I 100% understand wanting to just be still, but you should never feel you're obligated to stay still when it's physically painful to do so. When you look at the world, there are tons of occurances of movement during snuggles. Cats knead you, dogs wiggle and wag their tails, kids squirm, and adults snuggle close in the cold. It's okay to move. Again stillness can be nice but it doesn't reduce the experience if you're moving.
I had an ex who had tourettes and he'd usually be super calm when he cuddled but the second he fell asleep he'd start twitching 😭 it wasn't distracting or anything but this reminded me of it
I dont have tourettes but i have stress tics and i have this problem all the time cus my bf just wants to hug me to help me calm down but he cant bc i cant stop violently snapping my head to one side tics suck man

I have autism as well as others in the comments and my husband has scars from bites and scratches i cant control, and my fibromyalgia makes my skin hurt often let alone my spine damage, so sometimes i have to come sleep in my chair so im not moving next to someone. Not being able to be next to someone you love sucks a lot, but a little thing that helped me was like, but touch cuddles so you can move a lot, or touching fingers
There is no cure. There are ways to manage/reduce it, but everyone’s body is different. Some medications, relaxation techniques, some therapies (I only know of CBIT), an electrode(?) implanted in the brain for extremely severe cases, the Nepulse bracelet that stimulates median nerves to reduce tics. Some people grow out of it too

Autism here. I DO NOT HAVE TICS - I have stims, which are voluntary tics. My problem isn't the feelings, it's the urges.

dude, absolutely felt. what’s worse is a common tic for me is hitting or slapping something, so it’s a terrible predicament

When I used to do my head jerking tic it constantly got in the way of cuddle time with my girl
I don't have tics OR tourettes, but I can relate. 😨 I twitch a lot and tilt my head and make random noises, and it's so awkward😰😰
