      I bet that was cool. I actually briefly worked in Anaheim in the early 2000s. The traffic was HORRENDOUS! Sometimes it took 3 or 4 hours to get home.

    Man, I've been craving a Monte Cristo ever since Bennigan's closed back in '08. I'd get one once every month or two for years (granted I was younger and more active so the cals didn't bother me lol). I've come across some recipes from time to time but they just always seemed more involved than they should be. Specialty bread, specialty cheeses, etc. More of a special occasion type recipe I guess you could say over a simple recipe that you could put on a menu and make fairly quick. This is simple and to the point and with what I already have in the cupboard :). Thank you Cowboy Kent and Shannon!

      Wow, Bennigan’s is a blast from the past. They made a great Monte Cristo. I’ve ordered them in a lot of greasy spoon diners, but Bennigan’s was always consistent. I miss that place.

      My sister worked there when I was in high school so over 30 years ago. The monte cristo is what I got every time the family went to give her a good tip. I love that sandwich.

      Loved the MC at Bennigan’s!!! Was my favorite. Tried to get there at least once a month. Always had it with their orange marmalade. (That’s where I fell in love with orange marmalade as well)

      I always got the Monte Cristo at Bennigan’s too. My favorite sandwich of all time. I recently had one at a local tea room and was so excited they had it on the menu. Theirs wasn’t made the way it should and I was very disappointed. Didn’t even serve it with jam.

    Kent I'm at 60 yrs seen a lot of cooks in my time, you my friend top them all, not because your taller in a hat, no sir, greater in the heart you are, you are the best personality, most knowledgeable and plumb funniest down to earth cook, chef expert I've ever seen, thank you Mr kent rollins, you are a legend and will be for years to come, we so all appreciate and never take you for granted, your humor is perfect, as well Shannon you as well are so appreciated thank you both ditto, GOD bless you both and GOD make your trails all beautifully for you both are unique

      I'm thinking that the batter would kick butt if being about a third fine ground sweet corn flour. It ain't easy to find and I grow my own. Then again, being a backwoods stump jumpin' biker farmer has advantages.

    This is a nice sandwich but it’s a thin batter. Has to be thin. The sandwich gets raspberry preserves in the sandwich. I’ve also seen this done like a French toast batter. It’s a good video and I love how you love the dogs. Blessings to you both,

    BTW: Bennigan's would assemble the sandwich, then tightly wrap in plastic wrap and freeze till the next day. Then they would batter and deep fry. Apparently the reason for this is that they cook better. I'm not entirely sure why (That's a question for Alton Brown) but that's what they did according to many copy cat recipes. They also used stale Texas Toast.

    The Air Force sent me to Red Lion Hotels a few times. Some of them have spectacular restaurants in them; they do. One of them had Monte Cristo on the menu. I ordered it just out of curiosity, and it instantly became my go-to.

      One of the only places I can find Dukes where I live is at Dollar Tree and Big Lots. It's good Mayo for sure...

    I’ve had Monte Cristo’s that were battered and fried like that, and they were good, but I prefer ones made and grilled with French Toast.

    I had these when I lived in New Orleans, I moved there from the UK. I had a neighbor who made these for me he owns a restaurant there. They are delightful treats I think it's wonderful for tea time as well.😄 Thank you very much for this video.❤

    I'm going to say that Monte Cristo sandwiches at Disneyland are the best sandwiches ever, but I must temper that by saying that I haven't been to Disneyland since 1992. Still, I crave those Monte Cristos.

    It was the most popular menu item at Bennigan's (RIP), and the only thing I ever ordered there.
    It seems in recent years they've gotten very popular, but there are still lots of people that never had one, and thinks it sounds weird. Not everyone is hip on Sweet and Savory...WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???
    Anyhow this is by far one of the best sandwiches you'll ever have. It's easily in my top 6, along with a Cubano, Chicago Style Beef, Philly Cheesesteak and a Beef Manhattan.
    Yes a great Burger or a killer Italian Sub is always a good time, but mix it up with a Monte Cristo and you'll kick yourself for not trying one earlier.

    Shannon: On Thanksgiving week 2021, my now Kalifornia Kids (2 generations) treated me to a first class vacation at Disneyland. On 11/20, I enjoyed the Monte Cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou Restaurant followed by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Yo ho, me Hearties!

    My uncle from Oregon made a breakfast, lemon cucumber, yellow squash, zucchini, onion, sliced all. Bite sized, a little water to cook, when they are almost ready, poached eggs in the middle of boiling Vegies. Add crumbled bacon and cheese,

    I've had a grand total of 1 of these in my life. I rented one from a restaurant local to me and BARELY made it to my home less than 3 miles away before I had to sit down 💩. Its not just the high calories, its just too much grease. I love you Kent and Shan, but I'll never have another deep fried sandwich!

      SO there is a proper way to fry anything in oil. Not everyone knows this, but it's pretty basic.
      First the oil needs to be Hot. 350 is standard.
      Whether you're making fries or egg rolls in a deep fryer or frying chicken or breaded pork chops or whatever in a skillet/pan...if your oil isn't up to temp when you drop your food its gonna sit too long and absorb too much oil, and become greasy.
      Also using old oil can give you the runs as well.
      If you use fresh oil and bring it up to 350 before you drop, then pull it before it overlooks your food will be fine and won't have bathroom issues.
      Don't let one bad experience ruin a lifetime of missing out on good food, including amazing Monte Cristos.

    I have heard of this sandwich but never seen one or seen how it was made. My mouth is watering! I’m making one this weekend. I’m a savory die hard so I’m going to skip the powdered sugar but everything else is a must.

      Kim you're not getting the full effect if you skip the powdered sugar and raspberry jam. Just try it, I PROMISE you you'll be shocked at how well it works and how good it is that way.

    I love a Monte Cristo sandwich, although I've never had it deep fried. I had it as Panni with a Strawberry Jam/Honey glaze. And I have had it as a French Toast sandwich with Strawberry and syrup. This looks wonderful and I'm looking forward to trying it.

      The non breaded and deep fried French Toast version is the original, but once you have it deep fried with raspberry jam you'll never turn back.

    OH, That looks so good and delicious!!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I enjoy watching and learning new things from your videos.
    I have never heard of this name of sandwich and have never eaten one. I will try your recipe and then maybe make one using coconut flour, keto flour, or almond flour. I may also add fresh kale or spinach with a variety of different cheeses. To replace sugar I may use monk fruit sugar, stevia, honey or no sugar at all using fresh fruit for the topping along with whipped cream and a mint leaf or no topping at all. Love to cook myself and try new recipes.

    The Monte Cristo sandwich is my all-time favorite.The best one I ever had was in a small cafe in central California when we were on a motorcycle trip. I'm definitely going to try this one. The raspberry-chapotle sauce looks absolutely wonderful. I probably will put it in my coffee. LOL 🤠
