Hi Char, grate video! The 455 GS/GSX Buick(s) were very underrated High Performance Automobile(s), in regards to horsepower. They where often tested at lower 1/4 mile ETs (drag strip elapsed time) then the 454 Chevelle Super Sport, by some of the car magazines. In 1965 when Buick Motor Division first came out with the Buick GS or Skylark GS "at that time" (GM mid-size A body) "as all GS Buick's where" for the first few years most car magazines said that the Buick GS was not as fast as the Chevelle SS, Pontiac GTO or the Oldsmobile 442. All of the automobile brands do read the car magazine(s) as dose the general public especially when it comes to "High Performance." The GS was taking a "back seat" in regards to mid-size High Performance car sales. That changed with the introduction of the Buick GS Stage 1 400 option in 1969, 455 Stage 1 and Stage 2 in 1970, and Stage 3 in 1970 (GSX only) Unfortunately by 1970, the end of the Performance Era was already insight. GS stands for Gran Sport, GSX Gran Sport Extra. At the age of 10, I first got a glimpse at a yellow GSX when my father took me to the 1970 DC Auto Show at the Washington DC Armory. The dealer that carried the car (the Buick dealer that purchased the floor space) had the car roped off and would not let anyone touch it, unless you had a bank check for the full sticker price in your hand, no dealing, no financing. Also at the show was a red 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS "Super Sport," that I would say had the somewhat rare RPO/LS6 (RPO stands for regular production option) 454 LS6 (the most powerful engine) that was already sold and it was blocked off with tall wooden crates, but in the mean time, I was able to stick my small head through to take a peek. Please reply. Dave...

Hi Dave, Without doubt, 1970 is my personal favorite year for muscle car history. I love the spoilers stripes and scoops era. Pinnacle horsepower ratings, bright, eye popping colors, tire ripping torque. This Buick checks off all the boxes. I love them.
I used to go to the armory as well, I'd hop a bus in Annandale Va where I grew up, and sneak down there without parental consent...
As for the "Great" long lived Chevelle vs GSX debate, I'll remain neutral. Both awesome cars, with appeal for which ever side you choose.
Thanks for your comments... Hit me up through email, it's in the about section, here.

@@Char_Jens Hi Char, I do not have a favorite High Performance Automobile, I think they are all good. It just depends on what you are going to use it for. Many of the printed results in the car magazines are often a political issue, such as what car brand has done the most advertising in the magazine, and often, the final gear ratio of the car is not mentioned. The lower the gear ratio, the faster the car will be. Dave...
