I have a 2020 manual. It’s getting 38.9mpg. Just hit 94k miles. The days of the $200 car payment are long gone so I’ll be keeping this till it’s paid off.
Can still get a new Versa Manual for like $17k which is only $3k more than a 1995 Corolla while offering more performance, safety, tech, space, etc. So it's not all bad could almost say the only thing that went up is real estate
Glad I got the SE Manual when I walked into toyota 3 years ago. I was gonna get the XSE but I saw the car next to it having a stick shift. I asked the sales guy what’s the difference besides the transmission. He said no blind spot monitoring, analog speedometer and odometer, fabric seats and a few more I couldn’t remember. I said to myself; I would even give up the moonroof if I have to just to get that manual. 3 years later I still yell out brooom brooom! As I change gears going 35 mph (speed limit) on my way to work.
My wife's gently-driven, dealer-serviced 2018 Mini Cooper with 59,000 miles on it blew a valve and the repair was $8,500. My Toyota truck has 250,000 miles on it and I convinced her to get a Toyota. This car is the perfect blend of affordability and sportiness. I took off the Toyota badging and replaced them with Lexus badging - LOL. Some people would not believe it but in a Mini Cooper you cannot drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on a single tank of gas. I guess the upright windshield on the Mini Cooper does not like going 80 to 100 miles per hour. When I drive her Corolla I don't like the CVT but overall this is a great car for the money. And I'm sure it's going to last more than 59,000 miles! P.S. I test-drove a $50,000 John Cooper Works Mini Cooper and it did NOT have power seats like this Corolla 😂

I was able to reserve my 2023 hatch XSE with a $500 deposit. I had to wait about a month and 1 week. I was lucky because it was already on the way without anyone having it reserved yet, and it was exactly the color way I wanted. If you have to custom order, it takes a lot longer. Lucky for me, the guy I was dealing with said he always ordered 2 of every car that was custom ordered, and I reserved the extra as soon as I saw it listed online. If you really want the older model, just buy used and try to talk down a little. It's still going to feel and look brand new.

I have a quick question. Does your Corolla allow you to flip the speedometer and odometer between miles and KMs and back again or are the US models fixed in miles, Japanese, Aussie and Canuck etc fixed in KMs? And do you know if you can also change the language on the screen? The GR Corolla is not on sale here in the UK so I was just checking how feasible it would be to import one from Japan and if the displays can be changed for the language and units? We're slightly different to the other countries because we are left hand drive, right hand steering wheel like Japan but we use miles and MPH like the US and not KMs like the rest of the world.

Yes the Corolla Hatchback is a gem but if you want up a notch go for the CH-R. It’s even a more hidden gem with port injection without any direction injection. The suspension is absolutely amazing too.
Well they get detailed sales figures of every model and trim vehicle they sell so yes not only are they listening but they have 300 IQ accountants and analysts looking at every data point. So of course when they see manuals have a take rate of less than 5%, it's easy for them to stop wasting time producing something that doesn't sell.
LS460. I have a 2008 with 246K miles. Only issues have been chewing through tires in less than 35K and front suspension. It is my 2nd. I also owned a 1999. Expensive to maintain, but a excellent car. Read up on the Lexus owners site about the specific model and year issues
If this vehicle offered a sunroof/moonroof and TURBO (for God's sake... Toyota?) I would have purchased this vehicle instead of a new VW GTI. I am a VW GTI enthusiast, have been for awhile, so it is saying something when I say I seriously almost purchased an XSE instead of another VW GTI. I think it is a very nice-looking auto!
@MeynMotorGroup I just got a 2023 se hatchback metallic grey for 27k but with the add-ons like gap and zurich shield that they didn't want to remove its 30k plus interest 35k. Would you still recommend the 2.0 over the hybrid if you can get a hybrid for 1,500 more? Also I know they use a eCVT in the hybrid which sounds like a very reliable system. Thanks
Yea might as well save the $1500 the mpg benefits are not really worth it so might as well get the upfront savings. 2.0 gets amazing real world fuel economy
My Japan-built TNGA gen 2020 Corolla SE sedan developed a handful of problems/issues during the 2 years & 10K miles that I kept it, & I came to the conclusion that Toyota doesn't built them like they used to. Finally tried my first Mazda in early 2022 & have been almost 2 years now with no problems/issues whatsoever. But, blindly trusting any brand these days is just foolish, considering how different all the mechanicals/tech is now from even 10-20 years ago, & how automakers are apparently cutting more small corners than ever to offset all those various tech feature costs.
Only major flaw I found with the Corolla is that the CVT is one of the worst I have driven; not sure if the hybrid corolla has a different CVT. It never seems to know what gear ratio to be in and will either spin up at random times or lug when you want to accelerate.
Facts and them mpg numbers are bullshit. I have a 22 nightshade hatchback cvt and the best mpg I have seen is 30.3 and some people may say that’s good but that is not what it’s rated for. And I had before that a 2020 Honda civic ex-l hatchback with the 1.5L turbo motor and a cvt and I got 35.7 mpg. And the civic I had had more horsepower. It’s confusing and yes the cvt in my Corolla is clunky especially when it’s cold outside.
@@jakemckeown9961 I keep my trunk pretty much empty and don’t carry anything more than what I have to . Too much crap in the car I’ve noticed hurts the gas mileage.
Bought a base trim GTI for less money than the XSE because - duh. But I actually really loved the Corolla Hatch & agree that it’s fun to drive around town. I especially agree with your “light hearted” take on it. That’s a great description.
Toyota made a huge mistake by eliminating the manual, the cvt has ruined the reliability aspect of the brand. Wake up Toyota, either a traditional automatic transmission or manual only belongs in your vehicles.
I hate all the cheap plastic Walmart quality infotainment screens on the dash. They're in every car. How about integrated the screens in the dash? Plenty of cars do it.
The Ford Fusion hybrid uses a Prius powertrain, so if you buy one of these used it might cost the same as a new Corolla hybrid, with more comfort for the 15 mpg less from the extra weight. Some say at about 175 thousand miles they start to become more of a money pit, especially if the big battery or generator fails. New Priuses cost more, are faster, and look better, but some say they prefer the Corolla for the better visibility and better steering. The Maverick or Santa Cruz trucks are competitors, but Ford makes very few to try to push buyers into a more profit for them Ranger or F-150, and avoid the dual clutch automatic transmission and turbo in the top trim Santa Cruz for more reliability.
Toyota took away the manual transmission option. Even with the small/miniscule 'take rate' of buyers choosing it, I think it's unfortunate that Toyota removed the choice completely. It's as if they're turning their backs on a large part of the company's legacy/history. And what a great history it was for Toyota USA in the 1970's, '80's moving forward. Not the end of the world, but just unfortunate. I always hoped to have a Corolla Hatchback XSE (manual) at some point. Perhaps I'll be able to find a nice pre-owned if/when the time comes.
Thanks Kevin, I do like the way the climate control has it's own physical buttons, the wireless charger though it looks like your phone will fly off of it though. As to Kevin's merch, peeps I have the hats and short sleeved T-shirts with long sleeves on the way, the hats look nice on and fit well whilst being very comfortable, the T-shirts I've not tried yet as it's winter here but the screen printing is done well and the material is a light weight which should be nice a cool during summer months, once the long sleeve shirts arrive I shall edit this comment with a report on them. As promised I'm editing this comment with my findings now that I have all the merch, just follow the instructions for washing and drying as I have and the items have held up wonderfully, they did not shrink and as such I'm very happy and would recommend this merch to anyone.

"Only smart people buy this car." - Smart people who don't need to carry adult-sized rear seat passengers or carry much cargo. But no one can knock it's proven reliability. I wish Toyota hadn't chopped quite so much length off the rear of the hatchback version.
Who in their right mind would buy this instead of a Corolla sedan? The top of the line in this car is in Camry territory.. don't get me wrong it's a nice compact but pricing just don't make sense🤷🏾♂️
None of these cars are “fun” a Porsche gt3 is fun and nothing in this class will ever be “fun” like that. Honda & Mazda are good and honestly better than this Toyota they just feel serious and dull. The Toyota just has a light hearted spirit about it but people aren’t car reviewers so they don’t understand these concepts right away or have the experience being in every type of car on the road.
Idk my friend both the hatchback and sedan are IIHS top safety picks. I think most people will be just fine in this. Much better than being in a 20 year old car.

@@AlexSchwartzATV yea man it really sucks because pre pandemic that IS and GS was 3 years newer with half the miles and lower interest rates for $20k-$24k
Now it’s just so painful to recommend. Granted, on the eco cars there are no longer any discounts so car buying is just super painful across the board.
@@MeynMotorGroup Sighhh all facts
I bought a 2022 se hatchback manual…whenI picked it up the salesman indicated he has six people looking for my car
I had to accept ititis white with black top…and black interior…I hate black butoh well I have the car.
One problem with the corolla and rav 4 they have a defective “coolant Bypass valve” that Toyota has changed and updated
The part and they refuse to recall and a class action lawsuit is underway as they fail after warrenty
What color is that . supersonic red maybe ?
OK, I now see that it’s inferno. Not familiar with that color at all.

Yes the Corolla Hatchback is a gem but if you want up a notch go for the CH-R. It’s even a more hidden gem with port injection without any direction injection. The suspension is absolutely amazing too.
CH-R is a lot slower.
@@braetonwilson4296 agreed, slow and steady wins long term. 4Runner is much like that.

Which part of my statement is false?
Could be wrong, but think the "T" in "CVT" stands for "transmission"
The ONLY reason I bought my 2022 was the manual transmission. Are you listening Toyota?
Well they get detailed sales figures of every model and trim vehicle they sell so yes not only are they listening but they have 300 IQ accountants and analysts looking at every data point. So of course when they see manuals have a take rate of less than 5%, it's easy for them to stop wasting time producing something that doesn't sell.
I hate those tires way to rough while the 22 se has a regular tires
Hey which car do you think is better the Ls460 or the Gs350 F sport? I’m currently looking to buy used.
Neither just get this Corolla instead
LS460. I have a 2008 with 246K miles. Only issues have been chewing through tires in less than 35K and front suspension. It is my 2nd. I also owned a 1999. Expensive to maintain, but a excellent car. Read up on the Lexus owners site about the specific model and year issues
buying new is cheaper than buying used nowadays
Thanks brother. I am buy this brands in 3-4 months
If you're considering this segment i would look into getting a honda fit for its practicality
Love the color
Same!
I have a manual in mine. Love it!
I got a GTI as well. Mostly cuz it had more interior room. Comfort is important for me. Too bad because I actually liked the corolla hatch.
So the se sedan gets the better suspension and not the se hatchback?
Seems that way
[Sigh] that's a bummer, really liking and wanting this hatchback but want the better suspension
@@videojunkyish just get the xse
@@MeynMotorGroup xse hatchback is equipped with better suspension? Just like the se sedan?

Whats a good price for the se hatchback
Probably just going to pay msrp
@MeynMotorGroup I just got a 2023 se hatchback metallic grey for 27k but with the add-ons like gap and zurich shield that they didn't want to remove its 30k plus interest 35k. I am going to pay extra towards principle. I was asking because I heard people saying they got the xse for less than what I got my se. Not sure if that's true or not
@@justmake6601 well if you already bought it than you’re stuck with it just keep it and pay it off I guess. Never work with a dealership that forces add ons just walk away and move on to the next dealer that’s what you should have done but no worries just keep that in mind for later I guess
@MeynMotorGroup yeah I messed up right there.
@@justmake6601 eh don’t feel too bad used corollas with 40k miles are still going for 23k or so plus taxes and fees and people pay that
Would you still recommend the 2.0 over the hybrid if you can get a hybrid for 1,500 more?
Got me a 2024 and haven’t looked back
Intelligent review, intelligent car-choice.
@@jakemckeown9961 something may be wrong with yours. In my SE sedan I get 36 1/2 going 80 miles an hour on the interstate.
@@jakemckeown9961 I keep my trunk pretty much empty and don’t carry anything more than what I have to . Too much crap in the car I’ve noticed hurts the gas mileage.

There’s something wrong with your Corolla CVT
Great review my friend. Safe bet vehicle
Thanks 👍 and I def agree Moe, very safe purchase for most people
Bought a base trim GTI for less money than the XSE because - duh.
That car looks awesome.
I love that chime more than I love hot wings
I need about 500-600 miles on a tank!
Love the wheels..
These are amazing cars. If you do Uber or any kind of delivery jobs they should last forever.
I wonder why they didn’t all get wireless charging. My
XSE doesn’t have it (2025)
just got one.
for the 2024 they brought back the Nightshade trim and put a decent spare in the trunk at the expense of cargo space.
It's not a Golf R or Civic Type R? Ya not even close lol
Hey my friend thanks so much for taking the time to share your detailed thoughts/experiences with my new Merch. Super valuable for anyone reading this and thanks as always for your continued support!

"Only smart people buy this car." - Smart people who don't need to carry adult-sized rear seat passengers or carry much cargo. But no one can knock it's proven reliability. I wish Toyota hadn't chopped quite so much length off the rear of the hatchback version.

How can this be smart? Paying more money for less car? This would only make sense in the sedan. The hatch looks like a little Fiat.
