For her latest film role, Meryl Streep perfectly mimics TV chef Julia Childs unique patter. Its just the latest of many accents Streep has mastered over her long career.
didnt even mention that not only did she do a polish accent in sophies choice...but she learned german and spoke it in a POLISH accent as well speak in the polish language itself. shes so awesome it hurts
No she fucking didn't speak it with a Polish accent 🤣 Why do people insist on pulling these invented facts out of their asses? To get easy likes from other retards I suppose.
Meryl is one of those rare few who was BORN to be what she does. Ridiculously talented. Incredibly attractive. She has the most classically lovely features. She is innovative, genius and a legend.
+Cammiboe : Agree 1000%. Greatest actor I have ever seen, and I've seen a heck of lot in my time : great British, European, American actors etc. She beats them all. A truly gifted actor. Just her range of accents is amazing. I live in Australia and I can tell you that she got the voice of Lindy Chamberlain perfectly. I really don't know how she does it.
It's not just the accents. It's the change in the tone, resonance, pitch, just everything. The same woman does Julia and Sophie? THAT is amazing. She is amazing. Even physical embodiment. And the same example. Julia? Sophie? Play the scene where Sophie is at the station and is so frail and just slips to the floor and where Julia enters a room "Hellloooo".
Have you seen her portrayed a rabbi in Angels in America? Talk about physical embodiment. Speaking of which, how about the first scenes in Iron Lady where she was now the aging Margaret buying milk from a store.
Her Polish impersionation is beyond excellent. She even has that glow in her eyes that people who have limted command in a language have, if you ever talked to a foreigner with basic English you'll know what I am talking about.
She is amazing and extremely versatile not only in her accent but in her look and body language too, she is never Meryl Streep. She is always someone else. Great video
To me, her very best one was the Polish accent from "Sophie's choice". There were moments I could not even understand what she was saying. Her most tragic role, I think her performance truly marked me. Oh, and as for her perfect british accent, I believe it was more accurate in "Plenty". If I hadn't known better, I'd have said she was born and raised in England. Amazing woman, Meryl Streep.
CaterinaEvClub haven’t seen Sophie’s choice, but I watched the scene where she makes the choice. I’m German and bloody hell she just fucking nails ( as an American) German with a polnisch accent!! That woman...
I agree --her accent in Plenty is deeply and seriously British !! Just my two cents: perhaps her British accent in French Lieutenant's arises from the character she portrayed: a damaged, lonely, tragic, and self-deprecating artist.: hence lots of drama in the persona. Whereas in Plenty, her character was more of social in nature.
She is not only masterful with language and dialect but she has the uncanny ability to get deep into the heart and soul of every character she plays. Marvelous Meryl Streep!
+John Ross Fischer Her Irish is the only accent she had a coach for and had a really hard time apparently. I am amazed at how many mistake I hear in Dancing at Lughnasa
i do SO agree with Mr. Alvin Elmore.... JUST stumbled across this. Am confused by the (so called) "commercial" actor's" comment (???) Meryl was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor in 2011...I mean (smiling) not for nothing. The musical tribute was divine at the KC ceremony, and she, a NJ woman, like me. (NOT here to discuss my own "commercial/pro career") Her eastern European accent as well as the "Bronx"..impeccable! (i have a slight problem with the "dingo took my baby"...THING) hahaha... SHE IS among THE. .... BEST and LOVE her! Iconic and beloved.
judging by the likes it's not just you, but I completely disagree: she still is very pretty (at least with makeup), but she was drop-dead gorgeous in her twenties/thirties.
She's great in everything, but her performance in Sophie's Choice was absolutely the best performance by an actress in a movie I have EVER seen! It was like a tour de force and almost super human! Totally brilliant.
I can't personally vouch for the authenticity of any of the accents affected here, since I don't really know what a proper Polish, Australian, Danish, Irish or Italian accent sounds like. Accents tend to be very specific to the person using them. For instance, not everybody who was born and bred in The Bronx sounds like the Mother Superior character that Ms. Streep played in "Doubt," but her specific Bronx accent was consistent enough and had enough of the flavors of general New York City speech that I bought it. However, that is not what makes Ms. Streep a great actress. It takes far more than being a good mimic to be a good actress. Ms. Streep is expert at building a character from the ground up. Mimicry is just a part of that process.
Amazing woman, amazing actress...she's enjoyed such a long and illustrious career and never once have we seen the ego and controversy displayed by her modern day counterparts. Her talent is real and speaks for itself. I'm forever inspired and awed by her.
I was born in Germany to Croatian parents and therefore spoke a blend of German-Croatian, emigrated to Canada at age 6, was immediately indoctrinated (simultaneously) into English and French.....and I now as an adult my English has long been colored by a mild European-ish accent nobody can identify, not even me. An indistinct sound.....suits me just fine.
1 of my all time actresses. her name will go down in history with the likes of bette davis. she will always b a true silver screen legend. better than 2day's shity actors we have, i bet none of them will still b heard of in 40 yrs time. so much talent & charisma. the roles she played in sophies choice & the iron lady my god just so powerful, no 1 could have done it better. meryl u have always bin & always will b a true screen icon xxx
Amazing actress. she ll be remembered as perhaps the greatest female actress of all time. some of those accents by todays standards are a bit rough, today, given all the voice and dialect coaches, and the internet- people grow up listening and learning hundreds of different accents and tones from much earlier.
As a second generation American-Pole, I'd like to point out how well she spoke Polish in Sophie's Choice. She spoke Polish with a perfect Polish accent. The greatest actress ever.
Meryl Streep is the greatest actress who ever lived. But Gary Oldman does an entirely different voice (not just accent) in every film he's ever done. If you made a video like this for him, it would be twice as long.
"And yet here one is", always amazes me how she can capture anyone's personality. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that all these characters are portrayed by one person. Each is distinct, each is nuanced up to the smallest detail, and boy do those details count. Everyday I have a new favorite performance of hers and it's astounding and thrilling that, that is possible. Today is Sister Beauvier.
I saw Sophie's Choice with my mother, who is German. I remember asking Mom how Meryl Streep sounded when she spoke German in the film. Mom was awestruck - she said Meryl sounded exactly like a Polish woman speaking German! She could not get over that an American actress could get the accent so right.
I‘m german as well. And yes your mother is right. Only in some words I can hear that she’s an englisch native speaker. But in 90% I heard german with polish accent.
This is fun to watch and Meryl Streep’s brilliance is astounding!! However, I would have appreciated if you had continued naming the languages she was speaking through the entire video and also if you had included the name of each movie!
Amazing. Her movies are timeless and still refreshes my mind her distinctive accent. She is a perfect woman born with a rare tongue. A linguistic should i say.
Wow, she really is an acting legend. And people use that term lightly now, but she really is on a whole another level. I feel the same awe for her acting skills as I do when I meet an genius level intellectual. There's just something they are able to achieve that breaks the barrier between what is effort and what is prodigy.
didnt even mention that not only did she do a polish accent in sophies choice...but she learned german and spoke it in a POLISH accent as well speak in the polish language itself. shes so awesome it hurts
That wasn’t polish accent. In Sophie’s choice she sounded like Ukrainian or Russian trying to speak polish
Couldn't agree more
Indeed.. I find her extremely related to Maria Callas
Meryl is my all time favorite, nobody even comes close!
She has beautiful high cheekbones and features. She has such a dignified and classically beautiful look.
Someone should make an animated movie where Meryl Streep dubs every single character!!
And every character is from different country
As a native Android, I have to say Meryl has the best accent I've ever heard from a non-Android native.
🤣🤣🤣
It's not just the accents. It's the change in the tone, resonance, pitch, just everything. The same woman does Julia and Sophie? THAT is amazing. She is amazing. Even physical embodiment. And the same example. Julia? Sophie?
Play the scene where Sophie is at the station and is so frail and just slips to the floor and where Julia enters a room "Hellloooo".
donde esta mi movil me lo han quitado
que pena.
I'm living in Poland and I would say that it sounds more Ukrainian than Polish. I can't do accents and I admire her work anyway ;)
Stefania Pikus
I'm Ukrainian and I'll agree 😉
I think Marion Cotillard has done pretty good Polish accent on the film "Immigrant".
a perfect Polish accent from before the second World War , it has changed a lot here since then
She is amazing and extremely versatile not only in her accent but in her look and body language too, she is never Meryl Streep. She is always someone else. Great video
To me, her very best one was the Polish accent from "Sophie's choice". There were moments I could not even understand what she was saying. Maybe the only American actor/actress who can do convincing accents.
I'm Australian and I think Meryl did an amazing job at her Aussie accent. She is truly a great actress
You forgot Margaret Thatcher's impersonation in the iron lady. Superb performance!
+Dex Knows the video was made in 2009
This Video came out in 2009, Iron Lady didn't come out until 2011....XD
She is not only masterful with language and dialect but she has the uncanny ability to get deep into the heart and soul of every character she plays. Marvelous Meryl Streep!
i love that "android" is a dialect.
Her Irish accent and Irish-American ones are so on point. You would think she was born there.
It was good but not so good to think she was born there trust me
+John Ross Fischer Her Irish is the only accent she had a coach for and had a really hard time apparently. I am amazed at how many mistake I hear in Dancing at Lughnasa
I like her Polish accent.
So sexy
Roger Ebert said something like her Polish accent in Sophie's Choice is the only accent that he's ever wanted to hug!
Grace Zabirskie made an honourable attempt of speaking English with Polish accent in 'Inland Empire'.
watch?v=oxZNfxPeAyM
s'cur'crow
She is one of the Top 5 greatest actors of all time. Men included.
please shut the fuck up. as a professional commercial actor i think i have the authority to judge
It really dosnt give you the authority to judge because you could still be a shitty judge.
i do SO agree with Mr. Alvin Elmore.... JUST stumbled across this. Am confused by the (so called) "commercial" actor's" comment (???) Alvin Elmore Hell yeah! hahaha! You tell him! xD
*****
And how come I never heard of you?
Meryl Streep is TOO bloody brilliant. When she plays a role, she's not Meryl playing a character, she IS the character.
You won't know how awesome is her Polish-English unless You're Polish :)
Polish is just superbly designed with her just wow
She's a freakin masterpiece
She's absolutely amazing in every character, every nationality she portrays and a vision to watch
it's amazing how sometimes her face appeals to her accent
She gets prettier as she grows older, is it just me?
Shes a woman of fine age :)
judging by the likes it's not just you, but I completely disagree: she still is very pretty (at least with makeup), but she was drop-dead gorgeous in her twenties/thirties.
@Stacy Caruso Wow, that's both shocking and interesting, if it is true. Where do you know this from?
Me
I have never seen a more mind blowing performance by an actor than the one she gave in Sophie's Choice.
Absolutely incredible actress. Not only did she have a Polish accent in Sophie's Choice, she spoke German in the movie with a Polish accent!
She sounds more Irish than I do. Haha
Finally understood what cam meant when he said that "meryl streep could play batman and be the right choice"
where's the devil wears prada. i love her voice there
i like meryl streep
"That's all"
her miranda voice is just her normal voice, just quieter and with slightly more clipped
"It's not a question". is to die for. with her fingers touching her earring. She is too brilliant she ' s not human
"By all means move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me."
And that's why Joan Rivers wanted Streep to declaim at her funeral in six different languages!
Woa! *.*
She's great in everything, but her performance in Sophie's Choice was absolutely the best performance by an actress in a movie I have EVER seen! It was like a tour de force and almost super human! Totally brilliant.
Her Polish accent is great.
+Katherine Alexandra ALL of her accents are great, my dear. :):)
No its not, it doesnt sound like Polish accent - it sounds Ukrainian or Russian mixture.
MsBlondeYo It sounds like the Polish accent before the war, the accent has changed over the years...
@@MsBlonde0000 Russian/Ukrainian doesn't have the SH sound
Unquestionably, the greatest actress of our generation. She has no competition.
I can't personally vouch for the authenticity of any of the accents affected here, since I don't really know what a proper Polish, Australian, Danish, Irish or Italian accent sounds like. Accents tend to be very specific to the person using them. Excellent observation.. I agree with you 100%. 👍
She has a doctorate degree in Fine Arts! Dr. Meryl Streep!
Amazing woman, amazing actress...she's enjoyed such a long and illustrious career and never once have we seen the ego and controversy displayed by her modern day counterparts. Her talent is real and speaks for itself. I'm forever inspired and awed by her.
wow. she is amazing.
LIVING LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!!
So wonderfu actress. She is BEST!!
Goodness gracious. She has always been an absolute delight. She puts in the work, let me tell ya.
What as amazing actress! "Acting happens or it does not happen" - it happens every time when Meryl Streep acts.
My god Meryl is so talented and mesmerizing. I love her so much.
Her Polish accent is phenomenal.
She is so talented in acting and even in singing. I could listen her singing all day!
she is a national treasure
No an international!
And by having this huge talent she is still a down to earth person. She enjoys playing enjoys life. A real role model.
To say that this woman is a legend would be an understatement
She is the ultimate chameleon! Love her
I was born in Germany to Croatian parents and therefore spoke a blend of German-Croatian, emigrated to Canada at age 6, was immediately indoctrinated (simultaneously) into English and French.....and I now as an adult my English has long been colored by a mild European-ish accent nobody can identify, not even me. She got Julia's accent down 100% ! and her amusing antics also! she is wonderful! :)
Thanks for a great tribute to the best actress in the world.
I never get tired of watching her Julia Child, so lovable
5 minutes. 5 whole minutes of her versatility. This woman is brilliant.
This was wonderful. She is so very talented. And not afraid to challenge herself.
Best actress ever!!!
Meryl Streep - The best actress ever!
Love her or hate her - I love her!
5-minute masterclass in acting.
Thanks a lot for this clip. It really shows how versatile Meryl Streep is as an actress.
Simply the best. Hands down.
Amazing actress. she ll be remembered as perhaps the greatest female actress of all time. some of those accents by todays standards are a bit rough, today, given all the voice and dialect coaches, and the internet- people grow up listening and learning hundreds of different accents and tones from much earlier.

Oh God.!! She is really Marvelous.. she has a wonderful voice and can put it as she wants ..! I love her
Streep is brilliant, one of the very best actresses ever...imho!! Thanks for sharing~
Meryl Streep you are the true definition of Talent! TY for sharing your words and story with us! : D
"And yet here one is", always amazes me how she can capture anyone's personality. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that all these characters are portrayed by one person. Amazing, truly mesmerizing
I love that her filmography is so vast. Though I've seen an awful lot of her movies, there are still many more to watch.
She is such a great actor... I cannot...
Amazing tribute to an amazing actress!
What a fine actress. It's such a pleasure watching her.
My god, she does all kinds of accents. It's insane! She has so much talent!
She is the best actor that ever lived

She is one of a kind. Her irish, New York, aussie, are my favorite. She is so talented.
Such a talent!!! Thank you for this interesting video!
What an amazing actress!!
Streep is a very talented actress and she is an example of one who has not squandered her gifts. Very commendable.
Remember, most talented people are only good at one thing.
Can they re-wire a plug, though?
MealyMouthedLeach
I cannot rewire a plug, but I can calculate how much a military move will cost quickly and accurately.
As a Polish person, I can say that her Polish accent was VERY GOOD, better than I've heard in any foreign movie to date!
This is fun to watch and Meryl Streep’s brilliance is astounding!! However, I would have appreciated if you had continued naming the languages she was speaking through the entire video and also if you had included the name of each movie!
so much respect for this woman. Simply splendid.
I just adore her! she is soooo talented!!!
The best actress ever!!!
Amazing!
muy buen trabajo!!! que lindo como te fijaste en todo los acentos! genial!
The most talented lady... Hats off..
she is DIVINE!!!!!! i love her sooooooooo much!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HER!!!!!
There's also the fact that her voice is just wonderful to listen to. Without the accents. Or with the accents. Ugh. ❤️
Simply brilliant!
How can you not just love her!!!
She is just perfect...
Great video, she's just TOO talented!
Amazing. Her movies are timeless and still refreshes my mind her distinctive accent. She is a perfect woman born with a rare tongue. A linguistic should i say.
Her polish accent is damn good - she sounds like a complete foreigner but she’s American. 🤯 mind blown
She is so talented.. love her!
So talented!
Seen all dem films and she deserves an oscar for every role!!!!! Meryl your amazing!!!!!!! xxx
Wow, she really is an acting legend. And people use that term lightly now, but she really is on a whole another level. I feel the same awe for her acting skills as I do when I meet an genius level intellectual. There's just something they are able to achieve that breaks the barrier between what is effort and what is prodigy.
Meryl is incredible! Simply an acting miracle! Tell me, is here someone, another actress/actor, who is also good at accents?
Etheline Cate Blanchett
Queen of acting.
