Ahh so I've found your channel!😂 Absolutely fantastic video, there's been a few done on and about this railway and I have to admit this is my favourite now, a perfect mix of passing shots and loads of info, history, how the railway is run and the technical side. That paint scheme of loco Graham Alexander resembles that of Portuguese Railways diesels from the 1960´s on, except for that thin red line on the white stripe running the length of the loco, and the full red "skirt"...the buffer beams were also red. Check the batch of 50 1370 HP BoBo´s buil by English Electric in the early 60´s, suplemented by another 20 built "in house"...

My last trip on a 12" was hanging on to the front of the open 'saddle' type car with a foot sticking out wider than the drivers and my daughter securing me from the back, such as my disability allows. Fun as it was for me, it was a worry to the staff, which I fully understand. Cheers!

The odd thing to me is how well the 12" gauge works here carrying passengers. It looks pretty safe and rides well. I'd have thought the popular 15" gauge would have been the absolute smallest for this, but no, though that does seem to be the smallest gauge used in the UK for actual rail services between various towns and villages, albeit mainly (though not entirely) used by tourists.

I was one of the society's founder members when the council handed the railway over. When we started the only building was a small brick structure that just about housed the only locomotive, No.3 'Robert' which was then powered by a Ford Crossflow petrol engine. It's good to see that it is flourishing.
While we were erecting a larger shed around the existing one the dynamo control box on"Robert" failed. It was conveniently located under the hydraulic tank which meant it kept any rain off but was difficult to get at. When another member and I removed it with water dribbling down our necks from the slack bolt holes, took it to a Ford dealership and asked if they had one. When the salesman ask what it was off we replied almost in unison, "A railway locomotive". The salesman gave one of those "oh really" looks but found a suitable replacement.
