Jay has really been killing it lately with these entertaining and useful videos. Thanks!
Yuh bro
Lmao
Yep this is very useful!!!
Not lately, always. If number of subscribers represent the number of people that actually build up or upgrade PC thanks to this man, that number would be 3,5 x 10 at least.
of course he is, it's jaytober!
I'm gonna miss Jaytober. This month has been so great with all this content
Yeah Jay is good.
I've used msi afterburner and rivatuner for years but I never knew you can drag the OSD around to adjust its position lmfao thanks Jay
Me either, always used the adjustment arrows. Typically don't have to move it much though.
Me2
same dude thats why i always watch jays videos no matter what hes talking about i learn something lol
Same, very useful info to me, the default position does not play nice in every game.
@@Soordhin yeah i cant ever see my gametime in overwatch unless i turn off my osd lol
This is something I’ve been wondering for a while now, thank you!
This whole month has provided many little, and over looked tips, very entertaining and informative. Gotta love 31 uploads
If you got a nVidia card it might be even easier to just use Geforce Experience's overlay, obviously not as customizable, but if you just want FPS and a few basic data points, it works.
Doesn't show temps and RAM
@@PageAaron it does... though?
@@poqax Only the GPU Temps, not RAM Usage and CPU Temps.
Geforce experience is a steaming pile of cow dung.
AMD's drivers have an overlay available as well. ALT+Z when in game, hamburger icon on the panel that opens up on screen -> performance -> metrics -> Overlay. You can set what to track on the overlay in the tracking tab, also under metrics.
Worth mentioning, if you want to display Framerate Avg/Min/Max you have to go into Settings>Benchmark and put in hotkeys to Begin/End recording. Beginning a recording will make the overlay start showing Framerate Avg/Min/Max and ending it will stop it. To remove the results of your Framerate Avg/Min/Max you'll have to hit the hotkey for ending the recording once more, so two times total.
thanks you a g fo this
But does it log this? I don’t want a folder with a bunch of log reports
i'm not entirely sure :/
Bro I swear I wanna learn from jay up close. Pc engineering is on a different level of entertainment with him 😍
I was playing with MSI afterburner trying to do this just a few days ago. I couldn't get my stats to show even though I was replicating every step from the videos I watched. And now I see you uploaded this video. Thank you very much. I don't regret subscribing to your channel.
How did you get them to show I couldn’t get them to hook I guess
This is great, I've always been curious but never took the time to figure out how.
super helpful and simple stuff bro! If you want to take your osd to another level look at Joker Productions video he made a few years ago...he goes into depth about how to customize the colors sizes etc etc, its been along time since I've watched it because I never change up my osd but if you go to his channel and search like "msi afterburner guide" or something along those lines youll find it! ...ALOT of customization you can do but its pretty confusing if you dont know what your looking at
i did it by myself lol
Yeah took me a while to figure this out only because RTSS has a nice frame time limiter you can use with the graph overlay ingame. If you don’t need the overlay nvidia’s Shadowplay menu has an advanced overlay that shows all the same info in game too.
A video how to set the memory timings and what the different timings are and so on would be really useful! Never seen a good video about this.
Its all written down. Just gotta look for it. Not hard if u actualy put in the work urself and not wait for ez fix.
@@nullerror4049 oogabooga ukulele
@@nullerror4049 well... some people aren't even familiar enough with pc language to understand what's written down and often times will leave with more questions than answers, also, some people retain information easier through visual or vocal representation... so, maybe instead of responding with a snide upturn of your nose, try to actually be helpful?? If you cant be helpful then maybe just be silent? At the very least you wont seem like a dick.
RivaTuner. . .there's a name I haven't heard in a very long time.
Remember when that was the generic nVidia overclocking software?
hell yeah brother
I literally searched this topic in google last night, and Jay uploads this today!! Such coincidence~
You have been quite creative on video content in these hardware-starved times. Awesome!
If this still confuses you and you own a Nvidia card, you can always press alt+R (while in game) to pull up their on screen stat monitoring software. A bit simpler than MSI although it is much more limited.
Notes: some things to mention: if you do custom installs of nvidia drivers you will not have gf experience (which I would recommend once you learn your pc). GF experience will give some games trouble but it's a good way to learn to monitor fpsn system temps and usage
That must be for newer gen cards only? I just tried it with my 1050ti and nothing happens.
@@JCrook1028 it needs u to turn it on and have gf experience
@@JCrook1028 you also have to have GeForce Experience installed, you should be able to do it with the 1050 ti.
you can always just use the Xbox overlay in Windows 10 because it has one built in as well.
@@artratengo Not sure how the Girlfriend experience will help but.... LOL
@@Psyopcyclops have you tried with the Xbox live overlay in window 10, because it has that function as well.
This this is only chanel that does those easy, useful tutorials about these simple questions that every PC enthousiasts asked themselves at some point. Its public utility at this point.
On the monitoring tab, you can check override group name and add a unique name. This adds labels to each OSD value so you don't have to guess what it is.
Yes, i wanted to say this too.
@@gtasmike333 Yeah, it's really useful and it can be organized so I can quickly see GPU and CPU spikes out of the corner of my eye. I'm sure Jay already knows this, but I wanted let other people know there's a lot that can be done with this software. Plus, it's pretty light weight. There's even a new feature where you can set it up to command the GPU bios to run a basic fan curve so you don't have to keep running the app after start up. Haven't gotten it to work perfectly yet (fans run a little higher than curve), but hopefully that will be fixed in the next update. Love it.
I use this and have labelled everything as I want it and moved and colour coded it to my liking. Such a great app.
I actually wanted to know how to do this and was thinking about it recently, I never commented about it but that's pretty awesome, thanks Jay
Saw ur same vid with same content few months back but this new vid has more of an update compared to before so therefore it’s worth watching. Thanks Jay and team!!!
I wish i had this video 5 years ago non the less good job:)
NOTE: easy anti-cheat games auto crash your game if you hook rivia
You can use nvidia’s Shadowplay overlay to show all the same stats now with a similar overlay. It’s under HUD layout and performance, then set it to Advanced and it gives you tons of stats to read while gaming. Works with every game that Shadowplay works in. Which is every game.
cool ill try it out
Stealth and Custom api is good to check too helps circumvent this from happening
Not true. If you have the latest RTSS it won't. Also stealth mode should be off for those titles.
@@casedistorted i dont really like the look of rtss, and so i've been on a never ending search for better alternatives. the 2 i have are:
nvidia perf overlay (in advanced) - doesn't display cpu temps, less customization, standard look, doesn't take much resources
nzxt cam (stable/beta) - much more customizable with custom colors, however, takes like 5-6% of cpu which is non ideal :(
and i have not found a good one yet. i'm honestly thinking of making my own overlay with a ton of customization using either rtss to get stats or directly using the dx/vulkan api
I'm really liking Jaytober! I'll miss it coming Jayvember, but it is fine, don't burn yourselves out!
Good video. I highly suggest watching this one before you look at the "custom LCD mod" one. It took me a bit to realize I could use Rivatuner by itself with AIDA64, and don't need MSI Afterburner. I now have a cool 10" secondary display for my system stats.
Perfect timing, i installed it last night and couldnt understand how to use it. Now ive got all of the stats i want! Thanks Jay!
AMD users have most of the onscreen readout for what hardware values you want to see actually built into the driver.
Jay you could also do a video on that. Don't need Riva tuner for that or msi afterburner.
nobody uses that
@@bleach4u I always use it and it’s fine
yep I always use that, but the fps is sometimes wrong in some games
Technically Nvidia users have that too with GeForce Experience. But nevertheless... MSI Afterburner is way better and much more advanced than Nvidia's and AMD's solution.
@@ATP-Flo agreed
Great vid Jay! A couple days late to help me figure it out, but it's nice to know I figured it out correctly.
Jay: short quick and easy
*looks at video length*
*press x to doubt*
Damn been using NZXTs for a while…been waiting afterburner to work FOREVER! Thanks Jay, you da man!
I literally just did research on this the other day on how to do it. Was checking out how well my system was handling Battlefield 2042 😁
This is one of the most useful videos ever! I am guessing this would be one of the most SHARED videos too!
Jay, what do we have to do as fans to keep the daily uploads going? Each video has been helpful and entertaining without clickbait drama. Thank you so much!
9:19 you can add custom labels. I don't remember how exactly, maybe that is in Afterburner, but i'm sure you can.
Side note: some games do not allow external overlays like RTSS (yes FH4, i'm looking at you), and others cause issues with an overlay in case of mods and stuff... in those cases you can use the integrated windows 10 monitoring overlays that show up with Win + G and pin the statistics window
Or use GeForce experience if you on Nvidia
Good tutorial. I've been using it for years. Mainly to monitor temps. Had an aio pump die while gaming. Immediately saw the CPU temps go up and and I shut the PC off and found the problem. Good way to save your PC parts.
100 percent
You can modify it much more by clicking on the 3dots on the right side next to the text "Show in On-Screen Display"
Also for people that want to show different GPU infos in a different line you can use symbols like !, ", §, $, %, & etc. and put it in "Override Group Name" :3
Just got a new PC and had wanted to see some of my stats like this. Perfect video Jay thanks for making!
i actually didn't know afterburner worked on integrated graphics, that's pretty neat
Thank you and to everyone involved with your videos! You have helped me so much. Thanks man and hope your feeling well. ❤
Been using msi after burner for years. Use it to over clock my gtx 1080ti, and to monitor cpu usage + temp. Gpu usage + temp. Ram usage, gpu vram usage and fps while ingame
As someone who has this figured out, but didn't for a very long time, this is a very useful video. Nobody really ever talks about how to do it, and so I always felt like a doofus doing benchmarks then running to check logs.
This helped a lot, I couldn't figure why it wasn't hooking before.
I have been trying to figure out RTSS for months. Thank you so much for this one!
MSI afterburner used to be just afterburner. then, i guess, MSI bought or sponsored it and it became MSI afterburner.
riva tuner is named as such because it goes back to the Nvidia riva cards of the 1990s. and used to be like what afterburner is now.
I tried to get this to work some time ago, but it never worked. I gave up. Now it works. Show! Thanks a lot, mate
there is no need to remember which value corresponds to which label. You need to use the Override Group Name option to differentiate what value is what.
GeForce experience use’s the same software. Any changes made in afterburner to the gpu are reflected in GeForce experience and vice versa. One issue I found enabling riva tuner osd for gaming is that it hooks into Corsair icue and caused runtime errors.
You could have mentioned RTSS's overlay editor and ability to show data form HwInfo64 etc
You Guys know a way to show 1% low FPS with just hwinfo and rivatuner?
@@sebstinator8554 you need just rtss with hotkey handler, optionally overlay editor. Setup hotkey for "benchmark begin/end" and enable show own statistics in rtss. When you start benchmark it will show you cur min avg max 1% 0.1%. Use overlay editor to customize it as you like
@@RicPerrott Got it. Thx Guys, but the hotkeys plugin just dont work. Yes, its active... :D
Been using this for years and years. Glad you made this for others to learn.
"Distance of time" - Jay, 2021
"Distance of x" can be used to describe the X axis of a graph, so his phrasing was indeed correct.
AMD Radeon Software had this feature too, but not as advanced as the MSI afterburner. Just launch AMD Radeon Software, click Performance tab, then Overlay tab, and finally , click "show metrics overlay" to toggle it.
You can access this from in-game as well. The default shortcut is Ctrl+Shit+O, or you can use Alt+Z to open the Radeon panel if you need to adjust the settings.
The "Power limit" value for the OSD actually shows what your limiting factor is (voltage, temp, power, etc) like what GPU-Z shows
I know people are iffy on Geforce Experience, but the performance overlay available in it is a lot easier to use, and clearly labled.
Oh yeah I forgot about that one it is good
I usually just hit ALT+F4 to instantly see the on screen stats
I tried this and I lost all my progress in roblox
Alt enter windows D works too
Hearing you say read the prom just brought me back to 90s car tuning
I've been watching my RivaTuner stats like a hawk now that I am testing undervolting on my 3080ti.
Speaking of, I wonder if Jay would consider looking into undervolting. He's mentioned it in the New World pain vids, but it seems like it would be greatly useful for those with 30 series cards.
Your last few videos talking about these small little tidbit tips are the entire reason I subscribed to your channel. Thank you!!
Interestingly it's harder to find a decent app that does that outside of games. I'd like gpu and cpu stats in big coloful letters on my other monitor. Of course I can run afterburner or firestorm or hwmonitor but none do that like these in game overlays. Can anyone recommend an app for that?
Spooky spooky month
Instantly clicked on the video and liked when I saw the video because I know it is going to be great no matter what
You’re making videos that no one else is making, the simple shit that people want to know; and I love it
i liked it when rivatuner was a standalone. not too fond of msi afterburner, i prefer evgas precision tuner though really they both do the same thing.
Rivatuner is standalone, I'm using it just with hwinfo. No Afterburner required... ;)
I have an EVGA card and used Precision for a while but didn't like it and switched back to Afterburner. I guess I'm just set in my ways. Main reason I switched back was because I couldn't get my fan curve to stick.
I just needed this video today. Thanks for putting it simply man..
"This is going to be a short one...."
Me expecting a 3 minute video.
Have to make at least 10 mins to get the ads, ad the "plug" to follow them on all social media for a chance to win a gpu (that you clearly won't win, neither will i) and you end up with a 11 min video. And a crapload of followers, more money, more free parts from big companies.
Always rich people helping each other, while making some lazy "donation" to us slaves.
@@crispy-k Except that Jay doesn't do this stuff?
@@flameshana9 1. he does get free parts. 2. sure all his vids aren't 10/11 mins, but there's quite a few. And those are usually the "unnecessary" vids. Just had to make something to get some views and ads and people to join the giveaway. Which we all know, some guy that already has a nice setup, is probably rich, will win.
3. I'm just pointing out the obvious ;)
Jay is coming in clutch these days
Jay: "This video will be quick and short."
Me: "It's 11 minutes and 31 seconds! If that's a short video, he's turning into Steve!"
One of the best videos I have seen on this channel.
I thought you were gonna tell us about how to use 1% fps etc, but you don't even use that.
I made a modbros screen. A nice little 7 inch quality screen, Raspberry Pi4, and all relevant software installed etc. Does the job, for VRAM, RAM, GPU , CPU temps etc. But not FPS as yet. I’m working on it !. Jayz covered this topic in the past, go check it out. The beauty of using the “ modbros “ method is that the Raspberry Pi does all the work, it in itself is a computer that sits nicely in my 7 inch screen housing.
Most needed video of all time !
Thanks Jay...love listening to guys who have more knowledge than me on things ✌️
Thanks for this Jay. I've been wondering this for months. Top job chap!
One issue I ran into with MSI Afterburner and Rivatuner was that in OBS when trying to live stream, it was blocking the Game Capture to pick up some games and would just have a black screen. If you run OBS and MSI Afterburner and Game Capture does not work for you, you need to turn off MSI Afterburner. I am not sure if there will be a fix for this in the near future or not and not sure if many even know of this problem. It was something I found while troubleshooting to get Warzone and a few other games to capture using Game Capture in OBS, it seemed that it was MSI Afterburner blocking OBS from Hooking to the games to allow them to be displayed through OBS. Just a tip some might find useful. Great video Jay appreciate the content you put out.
2 years later and this video is still solid!
Jaytober is my favorite month
Cocktober is mine.
Sheesh! Been looking for this for weeks after a clean install... Thank you Jay!!!
if you don't need all the fancy stuff like charts then I suggest using NVidia's in game overlay going into performance and turning that on with its advance statistics. I keep it in the top right for personal use and you can hotkey it (alt + R for me) so that you can enable it and disable it as you please, great for setting an overclock on your pc so that you know what memory clock and core clock your at when your screen is tearing.
it looks nicer but It doesn’t show CPU temps. I uninstalled GeForce Experience as a whole.
This is really helpful since some of the games does not show OSD like Forza Horizon 4.
Thank you so much for this thorough tutorial and I can now monitor my GPU and CPU temps while I game! Just because you have your current dream build means nothing if you don’t know how cool your components are and why your frames are dipping. Again, thank you!!
Thank You bro, I am one of those that "I have always wondered". works just like you instructed.
I've always wanted these numbers to display. Thanks for this episode dude!
I've known all about this for a long while, but I still watched and liked the video because it's informative and a great idea to spread knowledge like this in new videos. Loving Jaytober!

As always, amazing video Jay. Thank you!!
Thanks for the really well-made and informative video! I've gone so many years without doing this, mostly out of laziness or just using NVIDIA/Microsoft's stuff, but this is great and speaks to the tinkerer/detail-obsessive in me. :) Keep up the great work!

It's like Jay answered my question I asked a few videos ago. Sweet
Not something I plan to use often but I am satisfied that it's been shown how to set up. I've wondered for some time how it's done.
That's sick! Been using afterburner for years and had no idea you could do this. Thanks!

Thanks Jay, i've had use for this video three times already! :D
Can verify. Jay has never given a video on msi afterburner alone. But he has done a vid on best software for new computers which included msi afterburner. That’s a good one to watch for sure. I had been looking for this last week and found that video.
still haven't giving up on my g19 because of its screen, super great for having everything from afterburner showing there instead of all that crap on-screen. also have both 1st and 2nd gen G15's packed away
