If you watch from the beginning he explains this is a " stream of consciousness" song meaning you don't focus on the lyrics but the emotions they evoke
You chose an excellent video for this review! The studio version is excellent, but the song is even more impressive live. You have to feel this really. A man and his guitar, and that fantastic, distinctive voice. It's mesmerising! I hope this starts a long love affair with Neil and his work. As soon as I fell for his music, his lyrics and his voice, I was lost forever. Please do other reviews of Neil Diamond songs, he has a huge catalogue to choose from: Solitary Man, I Am... I Said, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Dry Your Eyes, America, Beautiful Noise, or even more recent songs like Hell Yeah, Pretty Amazing Grace, Nothing But A Heartache... More than 130 million albums sold, attendance records broken wherever he performed, numerous awards bestowed to him... Neil Diamond is definitely one of the best singer-songwriters ever!
One of my favorite singer songwriters spanning many decades. I had so many of his records. He had tons of hit songs. "I Am, I Said", "Cherry, Cherry", "Kentucky Woman", "Red Red Wine", "Solitary Man", "Shiloh", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Song Sung Blue", "Longfellow Serenade", "Desirée", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" etc. I was privileged to see him in concert twice. He was a great showman & his live performances were memorable.
And here it is...another Hot August Night! Just like the album is came from. And just like the heat it generates.

Trust me, you’re not the only one who’s felt like that listening to Neil Diamond. He can hit you on multiple levels. For many of us it’s been a 50+ year love affair. Great reaction.
