Yeah I think the way shown here is inferior. It's harder to do, wrecks the rim, leaves a jagged edge that makes it harder to get the contents out, and with the other way the lid is held in the opener at the end, so you can dump it without even touching it. It is true that a little liquid can spill out, but the other way does that too, since the can is wobbling around during the cut. There is always a significant amount of liquid on the lid either way, much more than any spillage, and it is easy to get it all off when the opener is firmly holding it after the nice clean cut.

Sharp edges on the lip or sharp edges from the can being opened on its side it's dangerous either way. But this way is less sanitary. I used to open cans yur way growing up but I find side opening is cleaner and easier.

I did both ways in the video and keeping the wheel on the outside leaves a clean but sharp edge.
Even if the edge was not a problem, you can see in the video when the wheel is on the outside, some can contents come out all over the place.
I guess if the contents were solid like meat, it wouldn't matter. Those are actually made to open from the sides so the meat pieces come out easily.
You can open cans as you prefer for sure. It will work both ways fine if you are careful with it.

So, cans are ancient tech now and we need UA-cam tutorials to teach people how to use can openers ? That's weird ! Anyway, don't cut all the way : dont let the lid sink into the can because you never know what pest rode onto that can in some warehouse before you bought it. The interior of the can is safe from contamination. The exterior : you don't know unless you cleaned it. Once the lid is almost entirely cut, you can use that lever in front of the can opener - or a knife, a spoon... - to raise the lid. And don't put your fingers in that juice !

Can opener on a can that doesnt need one? Use the lip you arent supposed to store food in the can once you open it anyway since its not airtight anymore

What do you do if the pull-tab breaks before you can open it?
Also not all cans have that.
I stored it overnight but you don't have to. I agree it's better to put it in a container for the fridge.

4:06 The can opener has an edge at the top which you can use to scoop out the lid (which you don't have to completely cut like that), instead of poking your grubby fingers inside like that. Ew.
