I’m happy to be here with you all. I hope we can engage in a productive and beneficial conversation, as we dive right into the troubleshooting of a fuel economy issue...
Getting right to it, I’m driving a 2014 Corolla S. With 80,000 miles on it. After much homework I’m coming to conclusions left and right of the 2014 Corolla averaging 40+MPG... I’m only averaging 28.5 MPG?! I’m in the med field, driving only at 3AM or graveyard hours alike.. I travel to and from work each day with no traffic, all freeway, normally 60-65MPH (I’ve lived in the fast lane for many years, that was long enough for me. Please don’t judge me for doing the speed limit! I travel in slow lane, hope that soothes troubled thoughts and wards off unneighborly comments and opinions)
Strictly seeking friendly advice and input here. So what are some areas that could be cause for concern?
1) What do you know about the MAF sensor?
2) What do you know about diagnosing fuel trims?
3) What do you know about tire PSI and the amount of affect it has on MPG? What about A/C?
4) What do you know about the negative affect of misfires?
5) What is an upstream and downstream o2 sensor, does this vehicle have either or?
6) Can the o2 sensors affect mileage without throwing a code/MIL/CEL?
7) Any good spark plugs, is iridium plug really the best choice, why?
8) What is a good air filter?
9) Anything besides DENSO recommended for use on this vehicle?
