For those with Nest Secure security the lock is a no brainer. It can disarm your alarm when you enter the code on the lock. Also, if your WiFi goes down the lock will then use the cellular connector of the Nest Secure if you have that feature added on.
That’s true, but honestly there is no reason you should run the batteries that low. The Nest app starts to remind you weeks in advance that you need to replace the batteries soon.
I agree with you 100%. There are connectors out there for purchase, the problem is, that if your lock dies and you are stranded outside your door, I can bet, that a nearby gas station or grocery store won’t carry the connector you need.
Yes, you need one of the two to act as a hub for the lock or else you will have no way to control the lock remotely. The connect or the alarm both have WiFi and they act as a hub to get the lock online so that it can be remotely controlled.
Just a simple question, I have 2 , front door and garage door , but the problem and I don't like, there is no way to use deferent code for each one,. If I give a temporal code for garage door, that code can be use for the front door , that is the only thing I don't like.
That is correct. If you create a temporary code for the home, it allows access to all doors that have Nest Yale locks with that code. It essentially gives you access to the entire home.
Thank you for this informative video. I do live in Miami and in hurricane season sometimes we are out of power for few days or weeks. What is the best solution for this keyless lock. I really loved this lock but still confused. Please answer. Thank you.
The lock runs on batteries, the plug in module only serves a purpose to allow the lock to connect to WiFi. If you have no power, then the lock will still work when you’re in close proximity to the lock with your smartphone or you also have the option to unlock it via the on screen combination.
It’s weather resistant, and also there are no screws on the outside that a robber could unscrew. All screws are in inside part of the door. It’s pretty tamper resistant.
Thanks for pointing that out. Honestly I really recommend the lock, if you’re vested into the Nest ecosystem and would like a simple lock that works with all your other smart home devices under one app.
It would be great if products like this worked reliably. I’ve had this installed and working it took several attempts and a little black magic to finally get it to connect to Nest. I had to reset the master code and once again I’m banging my head against the wall trying to get it to connect to Nest. My strong warning is, unless you’re a nerd you may not want to consider this device.
You can unlock it from anywhere as long as it’s connected to the Nest Connect, a separate module that plugs into the wall, so that you can provide WiFi to your door lock. The Nest Connect comes included with the lock if you buy it from a retail store.
@@zanevtech great that helps I got a smart Lock right now and I can send ekeys to people but half the time it don't work right and you can buy $100 add on to unlock from anywhere but you can't even buy that anymore...so this would work out great
Short answer, no. That is, the darn thing is offline 90% of the time so you cant unlock it remotely. Trash. I am returning mine. Also, you can set it to autolock mode after 5 min but if you leave the door open to bring groceries in it locks risking damage to the door jam if you dont check.
Yes you can. You have to have the Nest Connect plug in module. If you buy the Nest Yale lock from a retail store, the module is included. With the module installed, you can remotely manage the lock.
By double entry, do you mean where the door has a top and bottom lock? If that’s the case, the bottom lock would always have to be kept in the unlocked position. I would switch out the bottom lock with a dummy door handle if that’s the case.
No, I mean we have two doors for the house entrance. There's only one actual deadbolt on the right door. The left door is just a dummy. I hope this makes sense.
You cannot unlock/lock the lock with your voice. You can ask google home if the door is unlocked or locked. Thats about it. I wish that it featured some type of voice control.
It might be a security thing where somebody could yell it loud enough from outside through a window seal or something and it unlock the door. Who knows. It would be nice if it was secure enough!
To unlock will come because it worked with my old August lock but unlocking won’t because it is a security issue. That’s y they have Google assistant in the Nest Cam IQ indoor and not the IQ outdoor
Yes, you can connect multiple locks to one Nest Connect if the doors are in close proximity. If they’re not, you can buy more nest connects, up to 4 in one household.
This lock works with google assistant. You cannot remotely unlock the lock due to security purposes. You can however ask google if the lock is locked/unlocked and also lock the lock.
The door has a auto lock feature that is turned ON by default. It is set to 1 min. You can change as needed. There is also a Yale logo on the outside keypad which when pressed, it will lock the door if it’s unlocked. Your third option is to use the Nest app to lock and unlock the door.
It cannot. You have to use the Nest App. Earlier this year they did introduce the google assistant feature. You can now lock the door with your voice and check if it’s locked by asking google assistant. Due to safety you however cannot ask the assistant to unlock the door.
The batteries have been really good, I have had it installed since this video and the batteries are still above 70%. My last electronic door lock would eat through batteries every 2 months.
It’s for emergency situations, but it would make sense to switch out your batteries when your door notifies you, that way your never in that situation.
Don't buy this lock! I have had to take 2 different locks to best buy because 2 different locks have failed after 3-5 weeks! its the most trash lock I have bought
Do you need it?: No you dont. Its stupid. Just use a key, dont be lazy: its easier, its cheaper, and they work. This expensive device can be easily stolen or damaged, it provides unnecesary info that I never thought it was remoteley important until now? That takes time of my day to read... Any way, its hackable, people could steal the double AA batteries. Dont get fooled by this unnecesary fancy expensive devices. Apart, technology like this becomes obsolete pretty quickly, you will end up changing it over a year or year and a half. Why do people like to complicate things and charge you for it?! Its a door bell god damnit
It is more complicated than just that. There are safety measures in place to protect it from being stolen... If it is tampered with, the alarm goes off and you get a notification. You could also just use it as a door lock and not connect it to the app if you wanted to be secure... And what happens when you lose your key and have no spare key? You have to call a locksmith... So every system has its faults. I agree that there are some smart locks from some unverified companies that should not be for retail. But at least it is a small step into the future.
Look at you getting all angry at unreliable technology. Breathe. Keep using your key and let others have their gadgets and whatever problems that may come with it.
Folke lol. I’m not getting angry haha. I’m simply saying. There are faults to everything and if people want to try this for the future. Let them try it. I’m not criticizing the key... it is probably the easiest device to use, but times are changing and people want to monitor their system globally. Or unlock it for someone. Other than leaving a key inside a rock or such. Which is simple enough for a burglar to watch where you go and grab it once. And then use that to get in.
it is very useful if you do not want to get locked out of your house because you forgot your keys. I have been many times. Having access to your home from the phone is very helpful. And being able to let people, kids in from anywhere is priceless
Honestly, I don't care about the remote access. The most appealing thing to me about this is the fact that I don't need to bring my keys with me all the time. Keys can be lost or forgotten. Ideally it would have a keyhole and a fingerprint scanner.
The awnser I was looking for, for entering a code or picking up my phone form the pocket, may as well get the key and unluck. It would be nice to recognise my phone my proximity and let me unlock it by touching the logo

@@zanevtech can you use this lock with the ring doorbell
I don’t see why not, the doorbell and the door lock work independently. What do you mean exactly?
@@roba168 No, they work independently then, if you want to take advantage of the eco system, buy a Nest Hello video doorbell.
Rather it have the Nest logo on it than Yale but overall this is awesome door lock esp in the
Nest ecosystem
I definitely agree, I really wished it said Nest on the lock.
Thanks for all these videos. Came back for winter in Florida and it didn't work. Still trying to reset it.
Being "out of luck" if the thing dies is a dealbreaker. They should make it compatible with a normal key as well
That’s true, but honestly there is no reason you should run the batteries that low. The Nest app starts to remind you weeks in advance that you need to replace the batteries soon.
I feel you but it's creating a problem where there wasn't one earlier. I've seen other locks from Yale that have a physical key as well
You’re right, there are a few. I personally like it better than the rest, just for the fact that all my home automation is under one app (Nest app)
I agree with you 100%. There are connectors out there for purchase, the problem is, that if your lock dies and you are stranded outside your door, I can bet, that a nearby gas station or grocery store won’t carry the connector you need.
@@zanevtech You could keep one in your car like I do with my extra charging cable for my phone.
Great review but your door frame is a witness of how many times someone slammed it while locked lol
Interesting lock! I'm still not sure how I feel about touchscreens for locks.
I already have the nest smart thermostat, I still need the nest connect or the nest alarm?
Yes, you need one of the two to act as a hub for the lock or else you will have no way to control the lock remotely. The connect or the alarm both have WiFi and they act as a hub to get the lock online so that it can be remotely controlled.
Great job. Thanks

I think it is better without key. Key holes is a weak point and can be picked.
That is true.

Question
How can you keep it online my goes offline after just 1 week.
Have you tried resetting the nest connect?
Is this safe? I imagine it wouldn't be hard for robber to break the faceplate off and unscrew it? Does this work in the rain btw?

@@zanevtech thank you for your response. Very interesting product.

Interesting. I have never had any issues with it connecting to my nest account. Maybe a Wifi issue or maybe a device issue?
So is it really worth buying or not
I think it is. Especially if you’re looking to get a smart door lock and are heavily invested in Nest Products.
No its not
can you really unlock and lock this lock from anywhere with the app or do you have to be close enough for the app to unlock it?
