- I'm revisiting old VHS recordings from 20-odd years ago.
Madness with Ian Dury was such a great moment. Even cooler was Jools' reference to the awesome Dury as 'Poet Laureate' - the Poet Laureate that should've been; Dury's lyrics have a place among best poetry ever written (in my humble opinion!).
This is all for fun and I don't own any rights to the music. I'm just a music lover on a nostalgic journey!
Thanks for watching - subscribe for more from the vaults!
I met Ian Dury backstage at a Dublin concert and had a half hour chat with him and the band. Not many could write lyrics like Ian
I met Ian Dury on three occasions,in the early seventies in the student union bar Sheffield University when he was with Kilburn and the High roads ,London college of printing in the late seventies and on a flight back from Barbados in 1979. On each occasion he was extremely friendly and very funny. He is very much missed by wordsmiths everywhere.
The world is a better place for having Ian
You were lucky lol . Personality wise it was a lottery how he would be . God bless Charlie Charles love you forever my friend x
Ian Dury and madness...can't ask for anything else mate
This clip brings such a mix of emotions up in me. Ian Dury is obviously on his last leg and you can see and hear his failing health in his performance, but the man was such a fighter that he kept going until the last, something I aspire to do myself if given the least wee chance.
Drip Fed Fred is one of my all time favourite songs, as a huge fan of Ian Dury and of Madness seeing this eventual collaboration was both fantastic and heartbreaking.
Seen Ian Dury and the blockheads at the first ever Madstock, what a privilege and such a great performer!
Sex & Drugs & Rock 'N' Roll kept him going.
Wow man.... Ian Dury and Madness.... Joy🎸😀
This was actually aired on 30 October 1999, Series 14, Episode 3.
Ian was a total Legend as are Madness. A match made in heaven.
Thank you for putting this up!
Nobody should die so early. However, Ian Dury was absolutely the grim reaper's wrong choice. He still had so much to give.
I agree. The world needed Ian....much longer

Uncle Ian Died shortly after this performance i think... legend.
You're right, Ian did pass away quite soon after this was recorded. He's still very much missed. You're so right, he was - and remains - a TOTAL legend.
Loving the Bishop on the end........Ian Drury was a god, saw him and The Blockheads in Hammersmith back in the late 70's nutty days!!!

Jaysus. It's 2022 so more time has elapsed since this performance and now, than the clip of The Prince in 1979 until then.

Ian Dury was suffering from Cancer at the time and needed constant treatment. He had to have a drip feed and called himself Drip Fed Fred, in the video you see drip feed equipment.
