This movie made Sandra Bullock known for mainstream audiences. FUN FACT: Sandra and Keanu both had mutual crushes on each other during this movie but neither of them acted on it, and neither knew about it until years later after they got married to other people! Imagine the power couple they could have been!
This is one of the best action movies ever! Non-stop. Speaking of that, you should watch *Unstoppable* with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine (both of whom I believe would be new to the channel). What I think of as *Speed* on a train.
This was a breakthrough for Sandra Bullock. Her first big movie was Demolition Man a year before and this solidify her as a talented actress. Keanu was well known actor with 10 years of experience.
About that Bus jump. It was practical. They really jumped an empty bus off a ramp 100' long, 8' high at 60mph. They later digitally removed the pavement to mimic a gap. I believe that it was world record bus jump at the time. There is a great behind the scenes video of the stunt.
Some trivia: 1. This was the directorial debut for Jan de Bont. He also directed Twister later, and had been the cinematographer on Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October. In fact, it was during the filming of Die Hard that he came up with the elevator scene in the beginning, because he got stuck in an elevator during that movie en route to the set one day. 2. Dennis Hopper is known for playing unhinged villains in movies. Arguably his most recognizable role is Blue Velvet (1986), but given how unusual and dark it is, the edit might not work on UA-cam. Other roles include Hoosiers (1986 - Oscar nomination for Supporting Actor, with Gene Hackman from Superman and Young Frankenstein); Easy Rider (1969, which he also directed and co-wrote); and Cool Hand Luke (1967). 3. The bridge was actually under construction during filming, so they re-worked the script to include it. 4. Keanu Reeves breaking the glass on the door as he boards the bus was unscripted, and so was Sandra Bullock's "gum on the seat" joke. 5. The original script had Dennis Hopper's character's name as "Howard Fisk" instead of "Howard Payne." In the subway scene, you can see the name badge "Fisk" on his police uniform. 6. In an ironic coincidence, Glenn Plummer as Tuneman (The "Oh shit! Oh shit!" guy in the fancy car) lost his license two days before they were supposed to film his scene. 7. Also considered for the role of Payne were Jack Nicholson (from A Few Good Men) and Robert De Niro (Shadow from Backdraft).
I used to think the jump scene was just silly fun in a fun movie, but now that I'm older the rest of the movie is actually really grounded and holds up so well even decades later. It's really a giant glaring hole in an otherwise great movie.
@@brandoncameron2686 That's not what suspension of disbelief means. Your definition just excuses anything and we as an audience are just obliged to accept it and not acknowledge that it's nonsense. Some movies have orcs and goblins and wizards and we accept these things as long as the movie continues to follow the rules that the movie establishes. John Wyck can kill 20 or 30 men because he is established in the movie as being a highly skilled fighter. This movie establishes that it's taking place in the real world with real world consequences throughout and then suddenly for no real reason, there is a jump is not central to the plot at all, there is a jump scene that is not possible any place that has gravity. It's not the idea that makes it bad, it's the execution they could have done reshoots or cleaned it up in editing somehow or done anything to make it look like the rest of the movie. Instead it looks completely ridiculous in a movie that is otherwise pretty grounded. They could have even cut the jump scene entirely and the movie would be better for it, that's my point.
So the mad bomber in this movie was played by the great Dennis Hopper! Dennis Hopper is a fascinating actor and has done some wild classic films. Some Classic Dennis Hopper movies to see. “Blue Velvet” (1986) “Easy Rider” (1969) “True Romance” (1993) “Apocalypse Now” (1979)
The beginning of the movie with the elevator reminds me of the ride the tower of terror at Disney World. You’re basically in this elevator shaft like ride and it goes up and down really fast
It made Sandra Bullock’s career. Funny thing is that she wasn’t the top pic for the role. They wanted another actress, but Sandra Bullock just so happen to have a drivers license for driving a bus. That’s what gave her the edge over the other actress.
Keanu was basically known for Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. This was Sandra's breakout role. Dennis Hopper was in Easy Rider back in 1969 and known but he had a drug issue and dropped out of doing films for about 10 years. Jeff Danial's was another one who had fame before Dumb and Dumber. Fun Fact: the guy who was Cameron in Ferris B. was 30 when he played the part of a high schooler. You have to check out B & T's Ex. Adventure. you will really like it.
Jeff Daniels has a huge range of roles. One of my favorite performances of his was as George Washington in the tv movie The Crossing, about the Battle of Trenton.
An iconic Dennis Hopper movie that you may want to add to your reaction list is Easy Rider (1969) starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson and others who went on to have their own fame.
Living in Huntington Beach and commuting to Downtown LA I am very impressed the bus actually made it to 50. PS this movie was filmed when that freeway and metro rail was actually under construction.
Jeff Daniel's' character's name in Dumb & Dumber was "Harry" in that movie too. Dumb & Dumber also came out the same year as Speed, only in December when Speed came out in the Summer. In my head canon, he is the same person in each movie. Harry survived the explosion but not completely unscathed...Speed is him before being in the explosion, Dumb & Dumber is him after.
That bus jump. 😂🤣 I remember the TV show _Mythbusters_ testing to see if it could actually be pulled off. Obviously it couldn’t but it was a really fun episode. 😊

This is the first time I've noticed something. The bad guys catch phrase it's from the beginning. The mentor says' pop quiz' while they're doing the elevator rescue. 😮
This movie put Sandra Bullock on the map. Keanu had several popular movies under his belt by then, such as Point Break, and Dennis Hopper's career dates back to the late 1960s, early 1970s, with the movie Easy Rider.
I'm Taller 🤣🤣🤣 Another great reaction This time to a great action movie. I was most impressed by you remembering Alan Ruck (Cameron from Ferris Bueller). You talked about playing board games. 😂😂😂😂” Big Boom 😲” hilarious 😂😂😂one of my fav Keanu films. Now you have to watch “Point Break” the original. I would say this launched Sandra and elevated Keanu. Daniels and Hopper were already pretty established actors. Oh and the sequel wasn’t as good.
With how much you enjoyed "I'm taller" and "He lost his head", you really need to get into the James Bond franchise even though they are British. Quips galore, great villains, beautiful ladies, and more action than you can shake a stick at. I would start with Sean Connery's era - Doctor No
YES!! One of my favorite Keanu Reeves action movies I've ever seen! Before he was cast as the hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Kurt Russell, Jeff Bridges, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Charlie Sheen, Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes were considered Before Sandra Bullock was cast as Annie, Ellen DeGeneres, Meryl Streep, Anne Heche and Halle Berry were considered for the role. Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Jack Nicholson were considered for the villain. Joss Whedon (Buffy, Serenity, Firefly, MARVEL'S The Avengers, Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron) rewrote the action scenes for the film. The scene where Reeves jumps from the car to the bus was done for real and it eas done in one take. This was cinematographer Jan (Yawn) De Bont's directorial debut. He was originally going to direct a remake of GODZILLA for 1996, but it was cancelled due to budget constraints, and directed SPEED instead. It made $350 million dollars against a $40 million dollar budget. It won 2 Oscars: Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. Its regarded as one of the best action movies of the 90's.
I almost didn't recognize this guy with such a trendy shirt on. What's next, is he going to show up wearing a Supreme hoodie and some Gucci sunglasses?
When she put her handcuffed arms over his head in preparation for the impact, I thought it was romantic, sure, but I immediately thought Keanu’s head is likely to come right off when they crash!
They actually did real jump with the bus (not over the gap, obviously) and they did it twice, because the first time bus landed too smoothly. The bus travelled 109 feet. They had a ramp that was removed in post production, but i think at the time it held world record for the longest jump with a bus. The bus was unsurprisingly not in drivable condition after the jump. :)
They really DID jump that bus! whether the circumstances in reality would have allowed it is debatable but that was practical! Something CGI could never replicate!
This is such a good action movie with a wonderful cast. Sandra Bullock is always delightful, my fave movies of hers are: While You Were Sleeping (1995); Miss Congeniality (2000)
The elevator scene contains a phantom passenger. In one shot we see there's three people left. We cut away, and then cut back and voila! -- now two passengers remain! What happened to the other passenger?!
Some other good Sandra B. movies are: The Blind Side, Two Weeks Notice, and Hope Floats. Jeff Bridges is in so many good. movies. One of my favorites is, The Mirror Has Two Faces, but his more popular roles are in movies such as, The Big Lebowski, Iron Man, Crazy Heart and True Grit.
Don't know if you recognised him sans beard but the train driver at the end is played by Richard Schiff (Toby from The West Wing/Dr Glassman from The Good Doctor)

A producer realized they might have a hit movie on their hands when he noticed that, during test screenings, audience members would walk backwards when they needed to go to the bathroom, so they would miss as little as possible. The audience loved them so much, the studio came up with the funds to shoot the scenes properly. Power Couple Fact: Sandra Bullock actually learned to drive a bus for the film, passing her test on her first attempt. The scene in which Annie takes the chewing gum out of her mouth and pretends to put it on her seat in order to have an excuse to change seats and move away from the obnoxious Stephens (Alan Ruck) was improvised by Bullock. Keanu Reeves did approximately ninety percent of his own stunts. Reeves breaking the glass on the bus door in the beginning of the movie was an accident, however it was left in the final cut. Jan de Bont insisted that Keanu Reeves get a sensible haircut as would befit a hard-working cop. 20th Century Fox executives were horrified when they saw the buzzcut he adopted for the film, going so far as to threaten postponing the film so he could grow his hair back.
One of my favorite movies! Made Keanu famous as a serious action star ( He was already known for Bill and Ted...) This movie was also Sandra's first Big movie. She was in a previous one but was still relatively unknown. After this movie, everyone knew who she was.
A classic action movie 👍. Sandra is better known for rom-coms like the Lake House but to see her really shine, you should watch Miss Congeniality 1 & 2. If you'd like another bomber adventure/thriller try Blown Away (1994) with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones.
This was a huge sleeper hit, it made over $300m on a budget of around $30m. The director was the cinematographer on 'Die Hard' and this was his directorial debut. He followed it up with another great film 'Twister' and we thought a new star action director was born. Then he made Speed 2 and it all went wrong !
They shouldn't have revealed that the bomber is still alive moments after we and the cops thought he died. Should had wait until he blew up that first bus!
This movie made Sandra Bullock known for mainstream audiences. FUN FACT: Sandra and Keanu both had mutual crushes on each other during this movie but neither of them acted on it, and neither knew about it until years later after they got married to other people! Imagine the power couple they could have been!
Correction: Keanu has never been married.
@@Serai3 oops sorry I stand corrected
Similar thing happened to Linda and Michael from Terminator.
Another great Sandra Bullock movie is 'The Blind Side', heartwarming and very inspirational.
I agree, one of her best. The Blind Side is one of my top 5 favorites of hers.
Sandra Bullock--you'll love "While You Were Sleeping" and "Miss Congeniality". Enjoying your reactions. 🙂 You keep it real but still enjoy it!
She is very cute in both of those. Also in Demolition Man.

One of my top 5, if not 3 movies of all time.
This is one of my favorite movies. When I saw it with my cousin when they had to do the jump scene we both held each other’s hands 😂.
Good action movie but... WAY fictional. So many not possible scenes
@@AwesomeUSMovies it’s just a fun popcorn flick 🖖
A classic action movie 👍. Sandra is better known for rom-coms like the Lake House but to see her really shine, you should watch Miss Congeniality 1 & 2.
If you'd like another bomber adventure/thriller try Blown Away (1994) with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones.
james looks like an aging hitman with this new look
Thanks???
I really love this movie!! For another fast packed adventure watch gone in 60 seconds! Great reaction!!
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for a great reaction, you made me laugh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😁
I'm glad I could make you laugh. Thanks for the support
Great spotting Alan Ruck.
Obviously much older than when he was in Ferris Beuhler
It was the voice
Once again great reaction, for what it’s worth Point Break is my personal favorite one off Keanu Reeves movie
I first saw Keanu in was Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure. I only saw Sandra Bullock in these and Later in Gravity
That's great
Speed 2 is actually worth checking out
Great to know
Cameron aka twister guy aka Feris's friend real name is alan rusk.
thanks for that
This movie is often so over the top but still bloodpressure goes up.
They shouldn't have revealed that the bomber is still alive moments after we and the cops thought he died. Should had wait until he blew up that first bus!
Dennis Hopper! You HAVE to watch BLUE VELVET!
Watch Speed Bus Jump, how they did it. They only had two takes to do it as well.
8:11 There’s only one pay phone in my town. It’s at the health center. When I went to Seattle, there was a pay phone near the restroom’s at the zoo.
Cool thanks
9:34d here I will help. Dun Dun DUNDUNDUN dun dun DUNDUNDUN
"Point Break" should be next
Keanu in Bill and Ted's excellent adventure
Added thanks
