I know that the development went through multiple iterations, but the notion of development hell as the term is commonly understood seems almost alien to a masterpiece like Ocarina of Time.

I've been watching for a long time. The fact y'all can find new, juicy information is just so great. Today's gaming has improved a lot but back then. No one was really doing these types of things with gaming yet. If only nintendo didn't rush them
I understand Miyamoto wanting to streamline the experience as much as possible without sacrificing many mechanics. He was the one who wanted the first level of mario to be easy to manage the better you played the game. And i feel he aimed for the same thing with Ocarina

Did he seriously called miyamotto shiggy? XD I loled hard.
I am still blown away by the fact that the same guy who voices Baby Mario also voiced Paarthunax in Skyrim. What a singular talent Charles Martinet is
I was today years old when I learned this.
I legit thought someone was trolling when they mentioned it in a Twitch chat, but was pleasantly surprised when I checked out the IMDB listing, lol @@willkriss1497
He also voiced Orvus in _Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time._
"Whatever, I do what I want" - Miyamoto. So badass 😆
Adding a split personality would add 6 months? Interesting
Maybe they meant to add all features they wanted
If played straight, I'm curious if it meant different quotes, words, and at random that'll vary across playthroughs and within the current one as well.
I'm guessing it meant it was more plot relevant rather then simple text, especially if you consider the cut light temple and the owl's connection to it but that is just speculation
It is just like Martinet to go crazy with his characters. You can tell he's really having fun when he goes completely off-script and starts making silly crap up for the characters to say. I have to wonder what all roles he just threw the script out on?
Probably most xD
Interesting how Wapeach was recently leaked by her designer, she’s gotten a lot of attention of twitter!
Hiroyuki: "What if we gave Wario and Waluigi girlfriends?"
Miyamoto: "D I S G U S T I N G"
The fact that you take the time to translate Japanese magazines is such a fantastic development in your content. Great work
i really like the "new" DYKG that does novel research instead of reheating the same old facts like most people do
300 people likely already said this but its Lon Lon ranch in Oot. Romano ranch is in Majora's Mask. And then you called Malon Marin. Similar but not the same
4:18 - Well...at least we got Link swooping in to save Malon in the Ocarina of Time manga.
This is amazing. I love all these games and it's surreal to step back in time for development history.
Hobbit reminds me of Beatle in future games. He is always in the town i just show up in and ready to trade.
Thanks, everyone. I always enjoy learning more about game developers and the effort put into the games I love. This new info is very refreshing.
DYKG is easily one of the very best channels on UA-cam, and some of the best online gaming content regardless of platform. I will always feel they are under appreciated, even if they were the #1 most interacted channel on the web. The pure joy they are able to invoke in me, while providing me with knowledge on one of my favorite industries and at the same time preserving its history and legacy.
"No, I don't want to see Wario and Waluigi's girlfriends." 😂 oh miyamoto
I love the bit about Link escaping from a burning Lon Lon Ranch with a bunch of horses and carrying Malon under his arm, haha. That needs to be fanart.
Crazy thought.
Do you think there's a Japanese DYKG that covers crazy facts about western developed games.
I like the thought of the role reversal there!
“Are you aware? In Call of Duty there’s a character named “Soap McTavish”, but “soap” is also a name for a cleaning product used to wash your hands.”
@mrshmuga9 huh.... yeah that pretty much sums it up eh.
0:03, no specially because I never heard about Romani Ranch appearing in Ocarina of Time.
I think it's one of those things they add to be able to see who's stealing their facts/research, though I wish they'd be more subtle with it
Or Malon being named Marin.
@@SilkSkinFantastic That too lmao
@@603840Jrg Sounds more like an excuse to not admit they lack proofreading before finishing a video.
@@Mari_Izu It could be both, iirc DYKG and Guru Larry had some issues with bigger channels (at the time) like WatchMojo taking their content verbatim so that's why they started doing this
That Mario Golf 64 portion was surprisingly inspiring.
Ocarina of Time really was the Dark Souls 2 of its day.
"We should make something so good that Nintendo would want to put Mario in it"
What a beautiful quote; knowing they actually fulfilled that goal just makes it ever so sweeter.
The best UA-cam channel for over a decade ❤
2:32 That could explain the second face Kaepora Gaebora has.
it does!
It would be awesome if Nintendo remade OOT and added in the cut content they wanted to have but couldn't from hardware limitations. Same for Majors mask
That last bit just helps to prove the Mario franchise wouldn’t be where it is today without Charles Martinet. That man is a treasure.
Even how he landed the role has become a video game legend at this point from crashing an audition to his Robin Williams-esque improv take.
it's really interesting to think about the developers being tasked with speedrunning. ocarina of time was a game that i played over and over trying to beat it faster, it just felt natural. then discovering all of the interesting glitches provided a way to super speedrun lol. ocarina of time is so good
I remember reading that Wario's girlfriend fact way long ago in an issue of (Mexican) Club Nintendo and I'm glad to see my memory wasn't just crafting that out of thin air - and that Club Nintendo was, as usual, very good with their sources!
Thanks for this. I really enjoy this sort of video because there's so much out there in old magazines around the world that no one's picked up in years, and I hope that places like the Video Game History Foundation can help us unearth the gems all buried in there.
the funny thing is: it took almost 2-3 years for OoT to be finally developed only for it to be so broken you can speedrun it in 3-4 minutes
Thanks for keeping our N64 / Retro Gaming Memories alive with Videos like these
Uhhh... The Romani ranch in Ocarina of Time???
OOT: Lon Lon Ranch
MM: Romani Ranch
Waluigi being created to be annoying is so hilariously on brand for his character.
Bowling requires precise aim. If you find that sweet spot and hit it every time, then it wouldn't be a very fun spectator sport to watch.
That Pokemon fact made my day.
I think pikachu is quite a cute little critter :)
I friggin love Shigerus "Lean into the criticism" mentality.
I like this. This clearly took time and shows passion and providing video game information and even if it took an extra month or two, I really like this kind of direction. Obviously it's easier to say that kind of thing since it's a popular franchise, but still
Incredible research and journalism, as usual. Thank you for sharing your passion for gaming with the world. Best wishes for your upcoming trivia game!
DYKG is doing so much video game history, tysm
love the developers starting out reluctantly doing animations then challenging each other and giving their all 😭😭
The Ranch scene in Ocarina would had gone so hard tho
This is my favourite DYKG video now, love hearing new N64 facts
I know that the development went through multiple iterations, but the notion of development hell as the term is commonly understood seems almost alien to a masterpiece like Ocarina of Time.
Anyone else catch the mistake at the beginning where he said "Romani Ranch burning" and not "Lon Lon Ranch"
It never ceases to amaze me that new knowledge is coming out about these games and consoles even now!! This video made me so happy ❤
That sounds like such an incredible feeling. You make a game just to learn how to develop on the hardware and Nintendo is so impressed they tell you to make it Mario themed.
The world wasn’t ready for Waru-daisy..
These videos are honestly important for videogame history, thank you so much!
That is quite amusing that some of the best golf games on both the PS1 and the N64 were made by the same team from Camelot, in an era when Sony and Nintendo were at each others' throats in the console war.
3:52 - EVERYONE turned around! He was standing behind them all.
