thank for making this! im about to purchase a sunfire myself and I have a stereo out of my old mazda protégé that ill be putting in,it looks really cool, it glows a really bright electric blue which matches my seat covers and steering wheel cover and my gear shift knob, I just hope I do the wiring correctly
Thanks for the useful video! I'll be installing a new radio and speakers in my pontiac here soon, good to know it's as easy as I was hoping it would be!
Any tips my factory harness was cut out by some idiot. I have a new deck and tried to wire the nee deck harness and it powers on but has no noise. Mind you my antenna wasn’t in so I need that adapter I tried holding it in and boom power came on. So I have 3 wires from factory that don’t seems to be used according to wiring schematic. And the nee deck plug has one wire that doesn’t seem to be used.
May I know the name of that kind of dash ? the reason that I m asking this question is because I bought the one that has a spot under it to put stuff ... I would like to tryout the the one you have I m trying to install a Sony DSXA405BT to 2000 Pantiac Sunfire sedan 4 doors. Thank you
+ghostlyrich Really? because I have a 2000 pontiac grand am and it has a 1.5 din so I can't fit a double din. I never see a 1.5 din touchscreen radio so my main choice is to get a single din that has the screen that comes out.
I have a 04 chevy cavalier, bought the harnessing wires and antenna adapter , hooked it all up but no power to deck, only cd able to eject and pish in but no power for deck to turn on????
You need to either get the c2r gm11 pac module or you can run the positive wire from your cigarette lighter to the red wire on your radio Harness :). I have a video were i add cigarette lighters on a car it should show you which wires positive on the cigarette ligher because i filmed it in a pontiac sunfire.
ghostlyrich We recently tried putting an aftermarket in our 03 Pontiac Sunfire and it just would not work. My husband has installed many car stereos and we just could not figure out why it was not working. We were thinking it might be the theft thingy, but that really doesn't make much sense seeing that it's not like we were taking a stereo from another pontiac, it was an aftermarket JVC. Any hinters?
christina lawrence does the vehicle wiring harness he purchased have the chime module.if he just bought the reguler harness with out the chime module the radio will not turn on
+Lona IsABeast it's for safety reasons and to help integrate it to the car. I have had to sell modules for 500$ before just to talk with the cars computer properly. you can sometimes by pass the module buy getting a accessory wire from the cigarette lighter just becareful
I have a 99 Pontiac sunfire & I bought an aftermarket stereo and I am having an issue with it the positive wires aren’t connecting properly . There’s power going to it but every time I move it the sound shuts off .. HELP!! I am so done with fettling with this thing .
I'm glad someone else said to heck with those PAC modules. They're a waste of money for older vehicles and all we want to do is listen to our own music (via USB/AUX/etc) especially if the factory radio is defective and/or only came with the CD/tape insert. I envy those who got the premium sound package with an aux port. Never settle for base models. Best of all I can't wait to eliminate the chime. My '98 Sunfire didn't have that. My 2002 chimes any time you do something.
I installed the same radio and it just stopped working did this happen to anyone else I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it and I don’t want to pay to get it fixed
If you still have the harness plug that you cut off, just use butt connectors and put it back on by matching the wire colors. If you cut it too short (close to the plug) and not able to use but connectors, 2 options. One, go to an electronic shop and by the same pins that are on the harness, install new pins on each wire end (on the wires in the dash) and remove the wires from the harness you cut off one by one and replace with the matching wire's in the dash. The second option, depends how good you are, you can find out what each wire does in the dash one by one and just hard wire it to the deck. Best thing to do is my first option. I suppose option 3 is take the car in to a shop to do option 1. I've done this plenty of times for customers. I believe shops charge about $150 for this.
Preferably a car audio shop, they'll have everything they need for the job as opposed to a mechanics shop. Good luck with that and shop around, dont let anyone rip you off! :)
Not useful at all. Followed your directions, and you totally forgot to talk about the amp wire that needs to be spliced into the alt power wire. I did this and the stereo had power but no sound.

@ghostlyrich I have the same car very helpful especially since the stereo system is easy and cheap.
Quick, informative and very helpful. thanks!
It’s always Time to slip the deck in 🤤
What year is your sunfire ? And how did you wire it up?
i just bought a harness for mine and it comes with an orange wire instead of a red wire, do i just bridge orange to ground or what?

THANKS MAN!!! REALLY WORKED FOR MI!!!
I'm just wondering where is the factory car amplifier is in the Sunfire
Great tutorial as a mechanical dumass this helped me out ^^
How much did it cost to have this installed? I've been trying to install a stereo into my 2000 sunfire but its a bit too difficult for me

Mine has an extra red wire. Supposed to plug one end on a fuse and the other end?
Sounds like ChrisFix
not sure if u can help but i have a 2004 pontiac sunfire do u think a boss flip screen radio would fit without the dash getting in the way?
should be fine but just tried to avoid flip ups the motors die in the screen usually pretty fast
+ghostlyrich oh damn I hope I didn't waste my money then but thank u

ghostlyrich I will ask him. never thought of that! Thank you!
+ghostlyrich Why MUST you have the chime module? I am trying to get a wiring harness for my 2004 Sunfire but refuse to pay $100 for a damn harness.

So it has power but if you move it, it looses power. ??? Might be a defective unit with a bad solder joint
I did exactly like that but my radio wont turn on
Can you install my radio it's a touch screen and i don't know how to install it like the wire's are different
what dash kit is that
Think it was a metra dash kit
Mine had the colored wires and a thick cable inside, I have no clue how to remove that cable.

How do you get past the anti theft system on a 2005 sunfire?
What color matches what ? A lot of y’all UA-camrs don’t show nor explain. I need help
what is all the stuff you used in this video? more specifically the wiring stuff. I do not trust ebay stuff cheap and Amazon prices are crazy.
try checking your local walmart. They sell stereos, the din, wire connectors, the wiring kit and the wire strippers.
What about the anti theft?
Get a manual. It's one of the best fail proof anti-theft methods. Or buy a prius if you're scared of your car getting stolen.
I installed the same radio and it just stopped working did this happen to anyone else I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it and I don’t want to pay to get it fixed
I cant find any wiring harness for a 02 sunny anywhere
Scosche GM02B, buy anywhere with a car audio section or simply order online for a few dollars.
i followed all the instructions and my touch screen double din stereo still wont come on
Your a god
I have this same stereo in my Sunfire lol
bro I cut the original harness now what? do I have to rewire it I need help!!!

+MrJokster thanks man! I have no idea how to wire at all so I'll try and find a shop

you the Man!
Use a stubby screw driver n you won't need to do that to the glove box
Not useful at all. Followed your directions, and you totally forgot to talk about the amp wire that needs to be spliced into the alt power wire.
I did this and the stereo had power but no sound.
God the wiring harness is so fucking expensive, like $70-$100...why.
ME...
hide it in the glove box keep the car original
Classic car yes lol sunfire never
