Even 1 TB of Cooking Oil Can Stop You From Healing

  • My client today told me she was following a "healing protocol" from autoimmune disease that encouraged the use of grapseed and other oils. Here is why that won't work.
    By the way, cold-pressed refrigerated flax oil is not a cooking oil and is the only healthy oil :-)
    Also fats in intact whole plant foods like avocados are totally fine.

    I agree that it’s better not to eat oil at all. Even if you don’t cook it. I ate a raw wrap containing coconut oil and it gave me a zit. (I knew before that that I’ve gotten a zit within a day after eating something with oil in it. I haven’t eaten processed food in years.)

    Where do you get that olive oil is bad for the heart? Some blue zones seem to use a lot of it without any problems.

    Dr. Goldner, I would like to encourage you to make a brief video specifically on olive oil. In your video you note that olive oil is not inflammatory because it is mainly omega 9 but that it still is not good for your heart. I find many people don't understand the distinction and particularly why olive oil is bad for the heart. With all the talk about olive oil in the Mediterranean diet, more clarification is needed for those trying to follow a healthy plant-based diet.
    These are some of the questions that I think need answers for those trying to change their diets and knowing what to do: 1) In what specific ways is olive oil unhealthy for the heart? 2) Who should avoid olive oil, just people with known advanced heart disease? 3)Should the average person avoid olive oil knowing that so many people have CVD risk factors in our country even if they have not yet had serious diagnosed heart disease. 4) How about a WFPB healthy person who wants to have a minimal amount of olive oil to roast potatoes or veggies or to fry some Indian spices in a bit of oil for a curry, what would be an amount they could have and not feel they should worry about it, 1 teaspoon, 1 Tblsp, a couple of Tblsp?? I think having these questions answered by you could be helpful for many wanting to eat a healthful WFPB diet.

      Yes I fully agree with you. I love your questions and I hope that Dr Goldner brings more light on this, as I was very surprised to hear what she said. Maybe Dr Michael Greger discussed olive oil too. I need to check. I know he is a good friend of Dr Goldner.

      Why does the diet eliminate oil entirely?
      NO OIL! Not even olive oil, which goes against a lot of other advice out there about so-called good fats. The reality is that oils are extremely low in terms of nutritive value. They contain no fiber, no minerals and are 100% fat calories. Both the mono unsaturated and saturated fat contained in oils is harmful to the endothelium, the innermost lining of the artery, and that injury is the gateway to vascular disease. It doesn’t matter whether it’s olive oil, corn oil, coconut oil, canola oil, or any other kind. Avoid ALL oil. www.dresselstyn.com/site/faq/

      In my experience, small amounts of olive oil has not interfered with recovery from autoimmune. There is some evidence it can damage endothelium so I recommend limiting it.

    Hi Dr. G! I have ulcerative colitis and am in the middle of a flare. I know lupus and UC are different, but many people with UC swear by olive oil. Some even go into remission by taking three straight shots of it a day. Something about it coating the colon. What do you think of this? Also, I would love to eat flax seeds to up my omega 3s but nuts/seeds are a bad idea for me right now. Any ideas? Loved your video thanks for sharing!

    • @jolietdigitalsolutions3043
      @jolietdigitalsolutions3043 Рік тому +2

      This is an old post, I hope you found your answers. My thoughts are that using olive oil in the way you described might be a good way to address symptoms, but it's not helping to heal. Remission is different than reversal, remission just means that you are not experiencing symptoms but still have the disease.
      As for getting omega 3s, you could use flax oil instead of flax or chia seeds for the purpose of healing. When you are able to tolerate the seeds after a while, you could then start incorporating them in place of the flax oil.
      Also, eating the way that Dr. G describes isn't just for Lupus. Lupus is the disease that Dr. G had, but any disease that is inflammatory or diet related can be helped by this way of eating. That's almost all the diseases we face in our modern societies.

    • @BrookeGoldnerMD
      @BrookeGoldnerMD  4 роки тому +7

      you can have oils or other inflammatory foods on occasion when you are healthy, but I suggest you eat clean for at least 6 months to a year before adding back inflammatory foods so you don't undo your progress. You need to let the healing solidify - like waiting for the pain to dry before you touch the walls.

    Olive oil not good for your heart? Every cardiologist I know disagrees with that. Also, the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes olive oil, is considered one of the best diets for the health. Hundreds of other studies have also supported this position. I don't think it is responsible to make statements like this in an off-handed way without giving supporting evidence at least as strong as the evidence in support of it.

      When man takes whole foods from Nature and isolates things from them, such as sugar from sugar cane, cocaine from coca leaf, or olive oil from the olive, then it becomes toxic and the body can't process it without harm.

      Cardiologists have you eat whatever you want😂, so does our cardiology department, why would they care. They also have their stents and bypass surgeries...go do your own research.
      The Greek have the highest Olive Oil consumption - they are also the most obese from all over Europe, not so healthy in general.
      She talks from her experience from thousands of patients and has researched herself. Why do you think we are being told by advertising etc. Olive oil is good? She also is not the only MD. Check out Dr. N. Barnard. He explains it perfectly.

      @@Rudelherz Cursory research indicates that Greece is NOT the most obese country in Europe. My research also indicates that three of least obese countries are Italy, Cyprus, and France, which all consume greater than average amount of olive oil. You should only do your own research if you know how to do research.
