They could never find a better representative to demonstrate the product. Your knowledge and ability to identify the characteristics and flight dynamics are spot on. I like that you always tell the good, the bad, and the ugly so folks understand this is not a bad boy to abuse, it's powerful. On a personal note, I have followed you for a long time, almost from the start. Grow that stash if you want, you've grown up, no longer that goofy fun kid.. Cheers
I would like to see the full throttle climb from a sideways view from another paramotor flying alongside. Also, it would help to see the climb of the other paramotor in comparison.
I am Italian, seeing this video was a pride for me with all this made in Italy, Polini has always been at the top of the elaborations of scooter engines and I did not know it also produced this type.
vittorazi is italian too?
@@TheMaasse I am not an expert in paramotors, I looked on google and yes, it is an Italian company from Montecorsaro, province of Macerata
update, wide spread engine failures from polini 303 with running lean with incorrect carb needle taper and the engine is also detonation burning holes in top of piston, see PPG gorilla videos on this problem.
I’m a little surprised the company didn’t send the motor equipped with the new heads and make you aware of the potential filter situation. Otherwise this motor is incredible! You can really see the torque it’s putting out. Plus it will expand your technical skills. Looking forward to all of the shenanigans you will get Into with this new motor! And I look forward to seeing more tandem flights!!
This video was filmed over the course of a few months so I believe they have been dialing it in over time. I'm hoping it should be very reliable now with these mods in place.
@@TuckerGott I'm surprised that they gave you heads to reduce the compression but still recommended using 100LL. Usually you don't need such high octane if the compression is lower.
Lowered compression and cranked the octane to 100? Seems like serious overcompensation or bad math somewhere. I feel like you could safely install a turbocharger at this point. Zero risk of detonation. Lol
Excellent video as usual. Thanks again Tucker!
@@WymansWorkshop Same thing I was thinking. I know that they can get much higher octane in Europe but they do also use a different formula to calculate it. I've seen pumps on video in Italy of 110 "RON" at the pump but I think using North America method that is like 95 octane. Weird logic all the way around.
@@The_Osprey in italy regular is 95 or 98 depending on the gas station and premium is 100, it's common to run un import cars with much higher timing without any risks. Probably if you run the 303 in italy there would be no problems at all
When running 100LL I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend adding TCP to your 2 cycle fuel. If you find you lead foul your plug or start finding head or piston deposits it has completely eliminated those issues for me. I run a Polini Thor 180.
Always nice to get an update on what you're up to. Thanks for the shakedown flight and yes I've seen several people with holes in pistons from that fuel issue.
I run Non-oxy fuel in all my small engines.
I run a 100hp Subaru engine on my single seat PPC. Very fun to fly!
Pops off the ground at around 3/4 throttle.
I can't wait for your altitude test. I loved your last one. It's actually something I think about all the time.
So much fun. As always thanks for sharing.
I love your videos and admire you a lot for your skills and bravery. I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane with a static cord 55 years ago and that was then. Now I fly a Skydio 2 and a DJI Mini 2 and am happy to get my videos of the flight on my computer screen at home. Keep up the good work and I can still join in vicariously.
That was a nice flight. You're going to have so much fun this summer.
Big Bertha just got BIGGER!
I flew same engine in a flexwing (uk), was sweet and probably one of the smoothest two strokes ever flew.
Then you need to try the cosmos 300. ;)
Very nice. Good work. Will look forward to that drive-in scenario. Good stuff!
Seven years ago, I solved the same engine problem in exactly the same way. I made adjustments to the new engine for about two months before everything was to my satisfaction. I used a three-bladed propeller that could be built on the ground. All because of the tandem. I'm 75 years old and I haven't flown in bad health for a year. When I listen to the sound of your engine, I have goosebumps on my body. I miss flying. I have flown many times in the winter, my carburetor has frozen upstairs twice! Wenceslas from the Czech Republic. In the video, I'm the grandfather in the back. Sorry for the wrong camera. ua-cam.com/video/jdBQLUwY-IA/v-deo.html
Went to visit you at drop zone back in 2017 while I was working and flying around Dover. Appreciate your videos
Thank you so much for your invaluable information, highly appreciate it, keep it up the outstanding job, have a great day.
I have been using LL100 in my garden equip and chainsaws for the last 5 years...no alcohol means no problems....been using it in the motorcycle too....
You make flying look easy......tempting this 73yo
I don't know about the Drive Thru. Seems like too many ways it could go wrong with the prop. However I'd be interested in the altitude test. Also, this setup seems ideal for an Icarus style long range flight with camping gear in the front.
Think Fred Flintstone.
@@TuckerGott Yabba Dabba Dooooooooooo.................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Altitude, yes, another Icarus, definitely! @tuckergott, your original Icarus series was some of the most enjoyable viewing I've ever had on UA-cam. Not even the race aspect. but the adventure of flying and landing somewhere new each time and figuring it out as you go was super cool.
@@richardamiss7000 Some time ago I watched the Icarus again. It's so epic. Perhaps can you do it in another way Tucker. Fly with your friends from East to West. No race, so you can stop when the wind or rain is tricky. More save, but a wonderful adventure.
@@henkwallet6756 excellent idea , it would be a fun adventure and great for us.but logistically you'd need cars an vans following you on the ground all the way across, you'd need alot of supplies bcoz I'd estimate it taking at least 2 weeks or is it 2 months 🤔. They could only do maybe 100 mile per day and lots of refueling stops, and the essential extra fluel bladder lol.. I'd love for them to do it but it's big.. imagine flyon over the Rockies and the sierra Nevada mountains and then southbound down the west coast..woulda be flight of his life. Hope u readin idea Tucker, with that new beast of an engine you'd prob make it across in a week, and stop off at every taco Bell's on the way 😋😆..can't wait for that, and the altitude test.. you know Bear Grills, the British survivalist guy, that's happens to do a bit of PPG in his spare time,he and his mate flew over a thousand or 2 feet over Everest in their powered paragliders just back couple of year ago.. think it still stands as a world record. 27,000+ thousands feet. With oxygen of course and those artic survival all in one suits. Was no joke. I'd say #tuckergott knows about this ome already, but if not check out the video of it to see what equipment they used and the challenges they faced. You'd love the video those who ain't seen it 🤙🏼.. safe flying
This is something I'm interested in. This seems like a wonderful opportunity to try thanks for sharing
Thank you. I hope to power a Badland airplane with this engine. Wonderful review. Thanks again.
Aww man shame to lower the compression ratio especially if you're running higher octane. Figured that would be an either-or type of thing.
Yep, I came here to post this.
Absolutely! Bump the compression back up and run decent fuel!
Who cares? If it makes the same power and runs good. Only upside to high compression is more power.
@@mitchdenner9743 lead will foul that thing up.
Running the low compression head, then Just use pump gas and save on the fouling.
@@JasonHam41 the manufacturer recommended low lead aviation fuel and thats what he used.
Sky's the limit with Irn-Bru 🏴👍🏻
Not too many in the US will know what you are referring to, especially when it's made in Scotland from girders.
What pure fun. I’ll love the altitude run. Take some O2. Vicarious thrills!
Sick landing and self mechanics great vibes dude
HAHAHA! Loved your reaction!! Thing is a powerhouse, no doubt about it. I'd love to have that kind of climb rate around here. Would make me a lot more confident getting out of some of the tight areas up here. Need to clear trees and wires quickly no matter where I launch from.
Yeah, Polini had that thing set up a little too hot right out of the gate, judging from all the holed pistons I've been hearing about and seeing on UA-cam. Can tell they were going for all-out power. Way back in my day, this used to happen a lot with motorcross dirt bikes that were set up to win races. I think they also got a little too lean (hence the replacement needle) on the part throttle cruise setting trying to maximize hours per liter / gallon. The fuel quality must be much different in Europe, or they wrongfully assumed everyone in the states would run 100LL (which I think is most likely the case). Glad they're finally making good on their engineering errors, but it seems it took a bit of bad publicity first. Lots of owner accusations were being thrown out at first. Not good! I'm sure this has put a big dent in their sales. Sounds like the repair parts are spot-on, though, so they may recover. That's a BIG pile of money to spend, only to have things go south!
The mechanic in me is wondering if one could still run that original head with that replacement needle, coupled with 100LL in the tank. I hate to detune any engine, lol! But it does sound like it was a bit overdone anyway from your initial reaction and your description of the jerkiness. Thanks for the info as always, Tucker! Much appreciated! Congrats on that gift there!!🍻👍😎👍
Excellent video!
Awesome as always brother nice video
Tucker love the schechy paramotor content always watching the videos, I'm also wanting to see that orange truck! Lol, would be cool if you could show those vehicles! Thanks Tucker , Thefishstalker
My one criticism: If the engine needs mods to be ready for prime time, then it should come with those mods already in place. No everyone is as skilled as you in landing a trike after an engine failure, or in performing surgery on an engine.
My understanding is now all of these motors are coming with the new parts installed. This video was filmed over the course of a few months so I got to install the upgrades myself.
Shouldn’t they have tested this themselves before sending the engine out?
@@GY6SCOOTERCHAT pretty sure he was part of an early testing program. This wasn't all recorded the day before the video came out, he's had this for some time.
@@ParadigmUnkn0wn was Tucket r informed he was part of an “early testing program”. They are making motors that people fly with. That is a big responsibility and the least they could do is test it themselves before they send it to someone to be reviewed.
I dont see a safety of flight issue with the engine prior to or after they provided these "mods". Polini does development and testing long before they ship anyone an engine, they're as safe as you can make a 2 cycle. The changes they made are long term reliability or performance improvements. The fact that they are making these improvements after learning about how their engines are performing in the real world is fantastic.
The papramotor altitude record was the first video of yours that anded on my fyp. Been hooked ever since.
That's is really Sweet Tucker! Zoom Zoom!
I would like to see more details on the technical aspects of swapping the motor and other paramotor maintenance, maybe that would be good content for the uncut channel.
Good idea
Fuel issues is so frequently the cause of fatal crashes in the light sport / home built aviation industry - of which there is surprising number of home built kit planes flying! I am glad you are a very seasoned and talented/experienced pilot. It just underscores the importance of training and maintaining one’s skills in what is ultimately a very “intense” sport.
Good thing paragliders aren't affected by the lack of thrust
Those engine shots were 😍 footage Hagerty would proud of 😀
Awesome setup TG!
That thing is sick! Lol Can't wait to see you go to the drive thru! 😂😂😂
Me too. If not who would you recommend in So. Cal.
Yes!!!! New vid time
One lucky man, this has been my dream for many years one day my friend one day, thank you for the video
Nice video thanks.
Nice vid. Interesting to see if the heads fixes the issue. I’ve been watching PPG Gorilla and hoping he comes out on top as well!
That style of fuel filter is top notch, same style used on automobiles for many years now. It will, most likely, last the lifetime of the engine.
my favorite is how the engineers back at Pelini diagnosed performance from your video and sent precision components to improve till you were giddy 'bout it'
That thing will hit mach 1! Great video.
That things a MONSTER!
Thenks
You did it again! GOTT DAM!
Dang it, I like the Stache!!
THATS A DAMMMMM POWERFULL MOTOR WOOO ! 👌
I had the early trike called a para plane. I bought it in Mt Holy NewJersey. 1987 A very innovative design with two motors and counter rotating props. Had a square wing but performance was marginal. It folded up and it fit in my Honda civic. I live on Long Island so limited use. sold it. Wouldnt mind giving it another a go.
Now that was way to cool...
Love your vids. What's easier to fly maintain and handle, trike or paramotoring?
I actually made a video a while back comparing them! ua-cam.com/video/rXuimFXBbvM/v-deo.html
Awsome!
Great video, I would highly recommend making a completely educational video for folks to dl from your site. Amazing video!
Trust the stache, the stache wont fail you, grow it back !
Great video
Sweet setup.
Sick!
Love the video. Those new filters are similar to auto fuel filters
Nice painting in the background
New head? Avgas?
I still had two piston holes on my Polini 190 light using avgas. I understand that the 303 is also having similar issues.
I use horribly expensive higher octane race fuel that is perfect for Polinis.
If you stay with AvGas make sure you add a lead scavenging additive to the fuel, otherwise you will get clogged decompression ports.
What is a decompression port ?
@@BasketCase A small port that lessens the compression so it easier to hand start. It gets clogged up with carbon build-up anyway, thats just a thing with 2-stokes.
Just the fact this motor requires leaded fuel makes electric power even more desirable. Not to mention how finicky 2stroke ic power is.
Whut???? 1) LOW lead 2) That much power in an electric setup is not feasible at all. 3) Finicky??
it doesnt "require" leaded fuel. It was recommended. you can use any higher octane unleaded fuel to the same result. its just that 100LL is way more available and cheaper.
You find an electric version that can fly for 3 hours straight at the same weight, reliability, and price point, you let me know.
love your videos man, hey here's a thought , would it be possible to have a re-tractable canopy/wing box mounted to the back, where you can push a button and it deploys when needed or re-tracts when done flying ?
Big Bertha now has big power. Awesome. Wish we could tandem trike in the uk
Is it not allowed in the uk?
@@hendrikhanso no unfortunately tandem on a trike isnt legal in the UK only single seat. Can only tandem foot launch. Shame because its perfect for tandems
Big Bertha is BACK .....
you had said that the Mojo 24meter was a bit overloaded ..... what wing would work better for this setup?
looking forward to more videos with Bertha... as always Tucker (and everyone else) Stay safe
Please show us the cars under the tarps some time. Interested to see what u got
Any float bowl carb when cold should only start with the choke on if it doesn't its a sign it might not be jetted right.
Cant beat a liquid cooled 2 stroke though ive a sky150 and thats a monster engine for me specially because im only 65kg
So if it takes a certain fuel filter why was it not sent along with the engine,,rug,t shirt, and service kit?
Not just fuel filter… a whole lower compression head too and no pump gas
I just recently bought polini 190hf.. and company is making aloot of changes. My friend has 2 months older engine and mine came with fuel filter and difrent better pull start.. they are evolving and doing their best to advance reliability of motors. Amd best of it it did not change the price so my friend contacted them for fuel filter and pullstart handle and they are sending it for free
@@thespike1231 maybe test prototypes and new products before sending it to customers… idk they are expecting their clients to pay for development… idk if ur a fan but that’s obvious
@@blakeog2034
True .. i understand you... i think they managed to fix it all by now
Tucker can you swing in a spiral going straight up with that motor? Just try a pull to the right or left at full throttle
Thanks
Cool!
looks a Beast of a Engine
I hope it works out for you. There's a Chanel that side they had major problem with the new motors from them and had several like 3 or 4 blow up with in the first 2 or 3 flights. I hope everything is going to be ok with that one. Good luck.
They probably weren’t using the proper octane gas and blew up the motors that way. Tucker should be good now he’s pretty much using racing gas now.
Kind of thought that after you installed that new head and head gasket that you would of warmed the engine up and before you flew it, re-torqued the head. Hope everything goes good for you brother
You should grow the stache again ... looks good.
Great vid. Was the head change prompted by your contact... (I think?)...
Lessons learned for them. Sure seems like it will make tandem much more enjoyable!!
I have a 64 vespa, the sound of that motor is the same !
I like it. Thanks 🙏🙏
I am so envious of your garage, it's bigger than my house (which only has a 75% enclosed carport). Not sure where I'm going to store a paramotor when I eventually get one :p
#283 and climbing. Dinosaur Colorado USA saying hello and thank you for sharing your love and talents with everyone brother 😁👍🤙👍🤙
Interesting that they recommend 100LL. It, of course, contains lead in the form of tetraethyl lead, which is the octane level booster that gets it up to 100 octane. Lead deposits in the engine are something you'll need to keep an eye on, though I don't know how much of an issue it might be especially given that it's a two-stroke engine. It's the final holdout of leaded fuel and the EPA (and equivalent agencies around the world) have been trying for a long time to get rid of it. But there hasn't been a suitable replacement, at least until now. Fortunately, G100UL, which is a lead-free alternative from GAMI (General Aviation Modifications, Inc.) was approved last year for some certified aircraft and it shouldn't be long before it's approved for most, if not all, of the general aviation fleet that currently requires 100LL. At this point, the biggest hurdle is probably ramping up production and the supply chain.
Two strokes perform better and have a better safety margin with leaded fuel is the reason they recommend it. Lead isn't the only reason it has 100 octane as they have 105 octane unleaded race fuel currently available but without getting into the weeds there are other reasons "why lead". They also have a known track record of running performance two stroke engines on high lead content fuel for it least 50 years and anyone who has raced modified two stokes on race fuel (Polini comes from this area of expertise) can tell you lead deposits are not an issue. To this day my race bikes run VP C12 which has at least double the lead content of 100LL without issues.
Grand Pappies Appalachian Moonshine.
Best Fuel Additive ever...put some of that in the Tank...
Oooh! Flat Slide Carb!
very cool
I don't know why pollini lied to you but lowering compression always reduces horsepower and efficacy. This is very common knowledge. It's one of the reasons why the engines of our vehicles get smaller and smaller as compression and direct injection allowed for higher pressures.
Newbie here: would high octane + additive be 1. safer for you and the environment and 2. just the same as 100LL?
Swift 94UL avgas is lead-free, if you have access to it. Swift Fuels is hoping to replace all of the 100LL.
Hi Tucker, I enjoy watching your videos. Your product recommendations are interesting, but unfortunately I don't see any of the Fresh Breeze products in your comparisons.
I would like to see a comparison between the Xcitor and any other paramotor that you find interesting to compare. Have fun flying
Good paramotor
Awesome display Tucker! So a 10 mph head wind shouldn't be an issue with this polini Thor 303 with two people?? What's the average speed?? Thanks.
Thanks! Speed is a product of the wing, not the motor. So it really depends on what wing you're flying.
Mr. Gott, could you please provide a link or…. Where to purchase the “roll” bar / loop you mounted in front of you as you are sitting in the trike.. Thank you in advance
Hi tucker. Can you tell me. What was the fuel consumption with the moster and the new engine. Thanks.
Looks like a beast of a motor 🤘
Is it wet clutch?
Yes! That's another difference compared to every other motor I've owned.
Is that a red Cj Jeep under that tarp in the barn @tucker?
Tucker, Congratulations on the new completely awesome motor for your trike!! Frankly, I'm very impressed with your technical skills installing and then upgrading the motor. It looks to have power to burn! I wonder if you could install a ballistic recovery system and a self-contained oxygen system set up for 2 persons. That would greatly improve your safety when going for the altitude record and allow you to cruise at altitude without worrying. Just an idea, I hope it helps 😊
You always flying with vittorazi... why you have choice the Thor303 ? The n3w Cosmos 300 by vittorazi are also very good engine for trike!
Taco Bell drive through - CAN........NOT........WAIT 👍👍
What trike are you using and what are some good trike companies to look into?
