This was a very confusing way to wake up.
police gathering info as they always do imo
Stay cool, let it work its self out.
When was this? Skydive Cross Keys had a fatal accident this May. Many can't tell a paraglider from a parachute.
That was awkward. I would recommend a gate for your driveway and a lawyer on retainer.
Never talk to police. Respect point lost
Having been a law enforcement officer for many years, the interaction should be over after finding out there was no accident. You were the subject of the original call. Once you answered the door and confirmed no crash, they should've just left. I am glad that your encounters are very positive with police and state troopers. It just really makes it uneasy for me to see them walking around your home and looking in the windows. Is unusual for that type of call for service.
That's what I was thinking. Their first action should have been on the "crash site" to see if there was a crash or not. If there was no actual paramotor accident, why would they be visiting every paramotor pilot house on the area? It doesn't make any sense.
@@LuccaValsamis Now they have a little list of known area paramotor pilots and their addresses, that they can reference if a complaint comes in. Tucker should not have answered questions beyond "I am fine, thank you.", and should not have named his fellow pilots.
He wasn't the subject of the original call. The subject was unknown. He was just a guess at who the subject might have been and, it turned out, an incorrect guess. The only way to confirm that there wasn't a crash is to identify who was flying at that location at that time and check they are ok, which is what the police did.
@@thomasdalton1508agreed. Finally a comment from someone that gets it.
@@thomasdalton1508 No. The only way to confirm that there wasn't a crash is to visit the suspected crash site and look for the accident. If the police gets a call about a car crash, will they visit every driver in the neighborhood to see if they are ok?
1. Never walk outside of your front door. 2. Never answer questions. 3. When the police show up at your house, they are not there to sip tea and shoot the breeze- they are NOT your friends.
yes they are, love sipping tea with my local police.
this video is proof you are wrong
Impossible because one of the officers is my stepdad, and another one is also a good friend on mine. You sir are far from the truth.
I couldn't have said it better. Police develop a chip on their shoulders where they think they have carte blanch to violate your rights. Never assist them in their investigation against YOU.
So glad paranoia doesn't live in my head rent free 🙄
I'm a retired LEO and once the officers saw you were okay but they should have gone out to the location and checked the area for themselves.
It's sad that you are still proud to say you were once a tyrants LEO.
Being a LEO is fine, if you can take pride that you did your job honestly. Good cops are needed. Bad cops need to be called out and kicked out.
1) Thank you for your service. (Retired Comm officer here.)
2) Regarding checking the location of the supposed crash, yes; however, since Tucker said they called the PD to handle the wellness check of the other glider pilot, I'm betting the actual crash site is NOT in their jurisdiction and I'll bet they did send someone to the site to check, but there's no way for Tucker to know that, and I'm betting that Tucker knew about the wellness check of the other Paraglider pilot because they're friends, but since the other pilot was at work, there's no way for him to know whether or not the site was checked.

The cops were on a fishing trip plain and simple. They have a complaint of some sorts and they are looking for someone to pin it on. Don't offer up any information ever. And don't help them with their investigation.
He a bootlicker at hart. He cant stop from idealizing and communicating with the terrorists.
100% this.
And the "complaint" was all about someone having fun (doing flips and barrel rolls). Someone not me, so I'm gonna git you in trouble.
@tomo9100 Thank you. I've been trying to hammer this into people. That's fishing. They have a legit reason to be there. Welfare check. Fair enough. Supposedly the call was someone thought he crashed. So why be peeping in his windows and searching his property?
Man, I'm not knee jerk anti cop but stuff like this makes it hard to be for them.
Yeah, I'm not sure how looking in the windows of a house helped them find the location of a air crash.
It happened here in Miami with myself and a friend, but besides the police, they also deployed 2 helicopters to look for us. Even putting us in a dangerous situation with the choppers flying close to our landing zone.
No matter what the situation, Police presence has a way of making it 10x as worse.
I wonder if this happens to Tony Hawk when a random skateboarder eats it down a stair set.

21-1/2 years law enforcement experience here (and counting): Awesome that you have video AND audio recording of such interactions. It seems that they were fishing around to make a waste-of-time wellness call into something much bigger. A house call like this could sometimes be used to get names and information of someone else who may the the real target of any investigation. You gave that up. Maybe checking with your friends down south if they minded you giving their information out before you gave them up? Also, letting the officers know they are being recorded could keep them from getting stupid if you decide not to give them what they want. You mentioned your UA-cam channel, so after that, being recorded may have crossed their mind and by now, they have probably since watched this episode and passed it on to everyone at the station. Oh, and as someone else mentioned, stay inside your door next time. Also, anytime you are the subject of a police investigation, (however innocent sounding as this wellness call sounds,) know that your chances of ending up getting "placed" on the ground, cuffed, and taken down-town are greater than zero. You don't know if one of the cops has it in for any paraglider pilot because of some personal issue, (such as his house may have been buzzed 7 years ago at 6am and woke up his sleeping baby?) Trust me on this. I know cops. (Ha!) Some cops are vindictive egotistical bastards who abuse authority. Glad this encounter ended uneventful.
This. This is what "defund the police is all about". We need to remove these kinds of calls from LEOs responsibility. Armed LEOs are equipped for a very specific set of roles, and putting them in roles that don't actually require their skills or tools is just asking for trouble. When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Many not some... but if you're still in law enforcement YOU should be doing something about it. Until cops start policing other cops aswell, people are going say dumb ish like "defund the police" and ACAB. There was ZERO crime attached to that call, yet they’re searching in your windows before knocking on your door…
Then still won’t let it go and want there to be a crime.

Why would law enforcement think it’s ok to look around your property or run your plates? Law enforcement needs their power out in check.
Only ONE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER THE ELECTED SHERIFF PERIOD. All others are peace or administrative officers. FACT
And that is why my property is POSTED "No Trespassing"! Not sure I would have even answered the door. I would think that they would be out trying to find the crash site, if indeed someone crashed, they might still be there! ???? "We got a report." So we have to investigate. Maybe someone should be charged with a false police report???
Without warrant. They are not allowed to snoop around a property without a warrant. Obvious 4th amendment violation.
So they arrive to do a wellness check on 'Person X'. They see a car and run the plates to find out if car belongs to 'Person X' (because if so, that means 'Person X' is likely in the house or on the property) and they look around the property to check if they can see 'Person X' anywhere (either on the property or through a window in the house). Can't do a wellness check on someone without trying to find where that someone is, you know. That's not rocket science, people. 🤨 And yes, they cannot SEARCH the property without a warrant, but looking around superficially to see if 'Person X' is home (especially after presence of car makes it likely to be so) is not a 'search' in the criminal sense. (besides, even if they find something, would it even be admissible in court without that warrant?) I get it. Lots of stories out there of police crossing civil rights lines, but cops just doing their jobs usually doesn't make the news, so for every bad interaction (that gets reported on) there are probably a few hundred interactions that are totally fine (and not getting reported on). We get an unbalanced image of things, because we mostly hear of the bad stuff, so our perception becomes that cops therefore must be mostly bad. Rational analysis of what actually happened should be preferable to always assuming the worst.

As a 34 year Law Enfororcement veteran, I can tell you that this type call is nothing compared to the nutty calls we get (thank God I'm now retired). On a welfare check, which is kinda what this was, officers are a little more relaxed and will typically look for 'signs of life' especially when its a possible death investigation. Is looking in the windows ok? Not really but most courts adhere to the 'plain view doctrine' where if an officer is somewhere he is lawfully allowed to be and sees something in plain view (e.g. drugs, weapnons, etc.), it can be confiscated and possibly used as evidence. Most calls like this is based on sketchy information and directions so running your tag to see if they were at the right house is not unusual and, at least in my state, not illegal.
I’m pretty sure plain view doesn’t apply to the residence curtilage which includes the porch area
@@GY6SCOOTERCHAT Depending on state, unless there is an effort to keep the public out (fence, sign, etc) then curtilage use by the public which have business with the resident is fair game. That said, maybe your state or NJ does is differently. Yeah, keep your stuff out of view from the public usage of a window/door. Do not let LEOs in unless they have a warrant, again, anything they can see when invited in. Oh, and you know ALL the laws regarding whatever may be deemed illegal? Good luck with that.
Clear violations of the 4th amendment. Learn about your 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14th amendments are. The cops can and do use wellness checks to gain entry. Once they are in it's all downhill from there. They knew they were at your residence before they knocked on your door. They ran the car tags to see who might be in there with you. They did it before knocking because you could have ended the encounter at any point. They want to follow up because they never know what they might find and when.
DO NOT make small talk during such an encounter but be ready for their push back.
Never give them someone else's name because now they are going to go investigate them. Anything they find is chalked up to "good police work".
@@GY6SCOOTERCHAT Trust me, if an officer has a reason to be on your front porch and sees something in plain view, he'll more than likely act on it. It certainly does apply to residential curtilage.

I work in behavioral healthcare and I have had the opportunity numerous times over the years to send police officers out to do wellness checks on people for a variety of reasons. I know it seems a bit redundant for them to go to the lengths they did, but, seriously, kudos to those guys because they did it right. They didn't just take the word of someone on the phone, they went the extra mile to lay eyes on the person to make sure nothing was, for lack of a better term, "untoward". It's nothing personal, but they didn't know you or the guy on the phone. They wanted to make sure that it wasn't just people making up a story and covering something up. Those guys see a lot in their field and I'm sure neither wanted to be the one to explain to their commander that they didn't a do a complete investigation even for something that sounds as pedestrian as this. If nothing else, it shows their work ethic and attention to detail, which, I'm sure, is something they would rather be known for than slacking on the job. The former leads to promotion down the road, the latter keeps you on patrol. Much respect.
Well said. I cannot add anything to your complete analysis. This coming from a retired Police Officer perspective.

If they can they will charge you. That’s their goal in life to make money for the state and get a promotion. It’s pathetic and I think we need to start preaching self reliance again. These people are not your friends.
There;s no such thing as a cop wellness check. That's just a subterfuge to check to fish for illegal activity. Cops are ill equipped to render any type of wellness assistance.
Reminds me of a time that I was hauled out of bed after 11:00 PM because a car in my driveway matched the description of a stolen vehicle in the general vicinity (~4-5 miles). Instead of first confirming that the car was the stolen car, they shone lights into the darkened house / living room, banged on the door, and scared the 💩 out of me with a mini interrogation with no explanation until they were interrupted over radio to inform them the stolen car was located elsewhere... 🤦🏻♂ Didn't they have a VIN or plates for the stolen car, and couldn't they have looked up the plates on the car in my driveway, confirmed the vehicle registered with that plate matched the description of the car in my driveway and eliminated it as possibly being the stolen car? 🤷🏻♂ I generally have a great deal of respect for police, but I've had a few negative experiences and a relative had a bad experience with some young/green cops with massive egos whose counsel quickly/quietly dropped their case (related to an oversize transport permit they wanted to claim was insufficient/invalid) when they realized my relative had legal representation. They had no legal standing for their case and they darn well knew it.
I wish I lived in a town like that where they do a wellness check on you and your neighbors or subscribers report you and then they go as far as checking a second time kudos to the police for caring so much
If they came to my door for a wellness check they would have to kick in my door never and I say never open your door to PIGS unless they have a warrant.
Unique content, loved yr calmness and interacting with the police, I would love to win the full paramoter
I might be criticized for saying this: When the police come to your house unannounced, do NOT step out onto the front porch. If you stay in your home and talk to them through the door they cannot enter unless they have a search warrant, arrest warrant, or exigent circumstance, but if you step out onto the porch they can legally detain you and even put you in cuffs. Also, the police said they were making "wellness check". While that will be true most of the time, the courts have ruled that when police are conducting an investigation they are allowed to give false information to people they speak to as part of their investigative tactics. So, just because they say they are doing a wellness check does not necessarily mean that is the reason they are there. I love, respect, and support the police, but we need to be careful and informed about our rights when talking to them.
@RT-gvtus
You are right on point.
Police are not friends of the public. You never have to participate in a police investigation of yourself without a lawyer present. It's called the Fifth Amendment police hate it when you say that you're going to remain silent and don't answer questions. Because it shuts them down.
I distrust the police at every turn
I will not purposely disrespect them but I do not respect them and I do not support them in there lying heavy-handed over militarize presents. Most of them don't even support the Constitution or your rights the ones they took an oath to protect.
I cannot agree more emphatically… Once you were on the porch, you were detained.
If you had not agreed to give over your friends names, you could have theoretically been arrested for obstruction.
If you remained in your house and communicated through your cameras, you could have simply said, “I’m fine.” If they asked additional questions, you could have simply told them to leave a card and you’d contact them if you heard anything… and simply stopped talking and gone back to bed. (Presence is required for detention during an investigation.)
What is telling? After finding out you were OK, they were still asking probing questions. This is normal for police officers, but I would be very concerned that they are trying to establish something tangential.
For example, “where do you normally fly?“ This could then be applied to a different investigation. They get you relaxed by talking about something life-threatening, and then casually come back to something where they can get you to admit that you were somehow breaking the law. This would be especially significant if they want to more broadly interpret the laws regarding flying over populated areas… and I am pretty sure that is exactly what some viewers of your channel - especially the ones that live in your area and disapprove of your paramotoring - are trying to get the police to do.
In the future, to protect yourself and your friends, I would recommend communicating through the cameras on your property. Then, I would never admit that I “knew“ where your friends are, or are not flying. Instead, I would suggest that you say something along the lines of, “I don’t know where my friends were flying that day. I can send a message out to the community and ask. Can you leave me your contact information, and I can email you any responses I get?”
If they say that that will not work for them, I would be highly suspicious that they are actually investigating you and not a potential crash.
The front porch of a residence is generally part of the curtilage, requiring a warrant, consent or some other Fourth Amendment warrant requirement exception.
or instead just don't be a douchebag and the police will never arrest you
@@p4tmchef I am not an attorney, but have heard a few different attorneys state that federal courts have ruled that cops can enter the curtilage (sidewalk, porch) of your property without a warrant as long as there are not any no trespassing signs. These same attorneys have also stated that if you willfully step out onto your front porch you can be legally detained without a warrant. Staying in your home and talking to the police through the door is the safer practice in my opinion.
Sounds like a fishing expedition. If somewhere down the near road you and the names given out get banned from flying or something, you'll know where it started with the information gathering. Keep a look out for future events.

I am pro cop (generally), but once they determined you are OK I am not sure I would have been giving friends names out, un-necessarily. By the nature of their work cops are often compared to “Hammers” and hammers primary function is hammer nails, and often it seems a hammer often sees everything as nail. If they were looking at “nailing” the reported PG pilot for some wrong doing they may not be upfront and tell you that is their reason for making contact with you.
and if they can't find a nail? You may become 1! Always end these encounters as quickly as possible!
Yea i wouldn't dox my friends - a polite "wasn't me" and goodbye. You don't know what their real intentions were.
Nobody called reporting an accident. Maybe someone called about the craft flying low and wanted to rain on your parade or maybe the cops saw him flying around and wanted to plant the seed of a crash to justify their snooping.
Seriously, instruct police to leave your property and don’t volunteer information.

@@fightingfalconfanThere is no legal requirement to provide information like that to the police. They could apply for a warrant to search his phone and see who he was texting, but since they weren't investigating a crime they would never get that warrant.
And if the cops called me to ask if i was ok and i said i was…i had not been in a crash…and then they called other cops near my home to come to my WORK and question me, in front of my boss and coworkers, i would be hella mad about that. I would tell them i already confirmed it via phone call and i cant talk right now cause im working. End of conversation.
