      @@zephanmoses Great Job, Zephan! Thanks for sharing. Let me ask you a question: could you tell us how you made the connections inside the rack? Because the sockets on the rear panel of the Redco cannot make them match the inputs and outputs of the ATEM and of the other devices that you have inserted in the trolley.
      Excuse me. I thank you in advance.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 роки тому +1

      @@TOSCANALiveTV thanks for the question! The Redco panel does indeed match the inputs and outputs. It's providing inputs/outputs for both the ATEM as well as the two hyperdecks that are installed. What you might be missing is that I have reserved inputs 7 and 8 on the ATEM for the SDI connections for longer cable runs and cameras that might be further away. Keep in mind I mentioned that the shelf inside of the rack unit is housing two Blackmagic bi-directional converters so the two SDI inputs on the panel are being converted to HDMI and going into the ATEM on 7 and 8. The hyperdecks also have HDMI and SDI outputs so some of those are being fed to the panel as well so I can have additional SDI/HDMI outputs of the program feed being recorded in the hyperdeck.

    I've just about completed my flypack rig when I came across your video. Nice work on the build.
    Interesting what you did with inputs 7 & 8. I went the opposite route because my rig is built around the ATEM Mini Extreme SDI ISO. Since most of my cameras use SDI. I needed hdmi for computers and external monitors.
    I have two Black magic bidirectional converters on 7 and 8 to give me two HDMI ins, and on outputs 1 and 2 to give me two HDMI outputs.
    So the input/output compliment of the rig is 6 sdi and 2 hdmi ins. 2 hdmi and 2 sdi outs.
    I just need obtain a 1/4 inch phone jack for the rear panel to bring in audio to the ATEM.

    With the patch-panel, how did you rack the SDI/HDMI converters? I'll need to do the same and wondering if they are flush with the patch panel or just tucked away somewhere inside. I'd prefer to make them removable if I need to change my setup or one of them goes bad (it has happened to my team a lot).

    Very cool Rig!
    Funny, I am also using two Blackmagic Bi-direction mini-converters for a similar function but different goal.
    I am putting together a rig based on the ATEM Extreme ISO SDI switcher which is all SDI. Complete with sliding tray and Hyperdecks in a 3ru case.
    I use the converters to give me access to the HDMI world. They are connected to 2 of the 8 inputs and 2 of the 4 outputs.
    All of my cameras and some monitors and other gear are SDI, that is why I went with the Extreme SDI. The converters will bring in other devices like computers and output to Splitters, other Monitors and/or projectors.
    I also have a Lilliput RM-1730S rack slide out field monitor that I used in a previous 4ru build with the venerable ATEM 1 m/e 4k at the core for several years. But I choose not to re-cycle it into the new build as it needs a deep case and adds a significant amount of weight to the rig. The goal was to be smaller, lighter, but just as versatile.
    I opted for a couple of those 15.4" portable laptop style monitors than can also run off a USB charger source.
    I like your design. Very neat and clean. Good job!

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  Рік тому +1

      Be careful using computers into the bi-directionals. Often times I've found that it's better to have Decimator MD-HX's to scale and reclock the signal otherwise you can run into some weird EDID funkiness where it simply doesn't work.

    • @DocMicrowave
      @DocMicrowave Рік тому

      @@zephanmoses Thanks, I do have a Decimator MD-HX on hand as well as a Blackmagic Mini UpDown Cross converter.
      Holdovers from my old Atem 1 m/e rig which didn't have resync on its inputs.
      I have tested the converters with both a couple of windows laptops and a Mac. With no problems. The Extreme Mini took the video like a champ. Laptops defaulted to 1080p. And the frame rates where with tolerances (59.94/60p). No EDID issues so far. But thanks for the heads up.
      I have a big gig coming up week after next where I will be putting those converters to full use for presentation and Zoom and driving confidence monitors and projectors.
      I don't expect to encounter any problems (at least using my computers.) But I will travel with the Decimator and UpDown Cross converters as backup just in case. As I will have to deal with at least one untested laptop from a presenter.

      Usually I bring a Zoom Livetrak L8 if I need to do audio myself but most of the time now I hire a local sound guy and include that in my pricing. There’s nothing like having a dedicated sound person handle all the in room speakers, mics and sound for the stream. I just take a XLR to 3.5mm directly into the atem.

    Very cool, question: How does its work to use a hyper deck to route an SDI camera input but record a program feed at the same time ?

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 роки тому +1

      It doesn’t function that way. A hyperdeck only records or plays back video. It does not do both of those functions simultaneously. With this build I hid two SDI to HDMI bidirectional converters inside the rack case on a shelf. If you check the video at 04:30 I mention this. The hyperdecks are on the next rack down and are separate functions from the bidirectional converters.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 роки тому +1

      Nope not a big difference. For me, I like having backups. I would never rely on just recording straight from the atem to a hard drive. What happens if that file is corrupt? Do you refund the client? Do you lose the client? For me, having a second recorder that not only records to a different media (SD) but also allows you to send out HDMI and SDI duplicates so you don’t need a splitter and on top of that the USB output acts as a second capture device. So it’s more than just recording. It’s about backups and additional capabilities.

      Hi there! There will always be a small lag when using platforms like Zoom. In fact most communication tools like Zoom, Skype, Google Meets, etc. all have a small lag due to the signal needing to be compressed and sent out over the internet in real time. I haven't seen lag be a big issue though so long as everyone has strong internet. If it's really causing an issue you may need to look at investing into something like Vmix or a Tricaster with Skype Call Connect. Both Hyperdecks are NOT recording. But it's always smart to have backups my friend! Backups always. Anything can and will go wrong on a shoot. This is set up so one hyperdeck is able to do video playbacks into the livestream while the other hyperdeck records program feed from the atem. On top of that since it's a hyperdeck taking an HDMI input, it's also essentially giving me additional HDMI and SDI outputs of the program feed in case I want to route them somewhere else like to my Shogun, a monitor, etc. But I would never just rely on recording ISOs to a solid state drive. I've seen enough people experience failures in the Facebook groups and I myself have experienced a couple of odd occurrences. I'd rather be safe than sorry with a SSD and Hyperdeck both recording program feed.

      @kestutisnavikas8458 2 роки тому

      Hmmm, I think ~20 kg is a tolerable weight.. IMHO, by separating ATEM and converters, you will lose the main advantage - a lot of connecting cables will be on the outside ... You compare this to the Tricaster. But I do not see any graphic capability (none at all), no ability to key or bring in virtual sets, no NDI, etc (I won't even get into the internal audio mixing capabilities of the Tricaster). This is nice, but it's still missing a lot and is far from a complete studio that will produce finished productions that don't need editing. Most high end productions require graphics, roll-ins, music beds, Zoom call inserts, etc. So anything you produce with this, that is substantial, will need additional editing or hardware. If I'm wrong, please show me where those other capabilities are. Thanks!

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your feedback Helen, the Tricaster serves a different purpose and is used for events that require virtual participant integration. It was however my colleague’s main and only switcher for a long time which meant there were not options that would support his streaming needs at a lower price. This isn’t to say that there are features the Atem has that the TC doesn’t, it’s simply to say there wasn’t a good model made to support the lower end need for multi-camera switching (up to 8 inputs) with video playback, graphics and recording (all of which the atem does).
      With that said I have a separate video on my channel about my custom Zoom caller unit I built if I need to add a virtual participant. Beyond that I would use the Tricaster TC2 Elite as we often do. Regarding your question about graphics the hyperdeck for video playback could offer a key and fill output if needed but I use the built in media pool, OBS or Titler Live based on what’s needed. This video was in no way meant to explain that this production unit replaces a Tricaster. It does however achieve many professional livestream productions on a weekly basis for me and has been responsible for over $350,000 in revenue for my business in the last 12 months. Again, I’ll repeat this isn’t to replace the Tricaster but just as there are proper tools for a project (you wouldn’t bring a jack hammer to nail a piece of wood), this serves a purpose for many of the livestreams we conduct year round.

Maybe you can do a side by side comparison of the two and their capabilities and costs. That would be something nice. Thanks!
