@@normanboyes4983 Oh it's worse than that. :) First of all, 2 junkers floor boilers in cascade installed 14ish years ago, they ran it on LPG gas at start but then now they switched it to NatGas 2 years ago. The reason why I had to clean injector for pilot flame was because there was literally no other way, pilot flame was so small it would never touch Ionization electrode, even after switching electrode to new one it would still fail to recognize the flame. After blowing injector and copper pipe with compressed air it started running fine again (bigger flame, reached ionization electrode). I believe the reason why injector got clogged with gray residue is something related to the way copper pipes react with NatGas that boiler companies don't want to talk about. They (Or some unwanted additive) produce these gray flakes that sometimes heavily clog rough filters before gas regulator. Have one of these boilers and have worked on a lot of them over the years , this is a common occurrence. You have to be very careful how you disassemble the pipe especially if they have not been taken apart in a while ,they are very narrow and can shere around the olive .I have tried several methods to clean the pilot ,It seems a particular difficult one .The best results for me anyway is using a 12 volt tire compressor with the plastic cone shaped adapter cut down so it makes a good seal into the pilot injector This seems to work very well and there is no chance of reamering out the injector .The other common fault as the boilers get older is the PCB which usually shows as the boiler fan repeatedly stoping and starting. The other thing is I seem to remember a pilot restrictor that fits into the pipe at the valve end ,this can drop out when you are handling the pipe ,suspect that would show up straight away with the pilot picture. PS make sure you hang on tight to the injector when you start up the compressor!
In the past I have tried boiling in a pan of hot water with not much success,The 12 volt compressor does work very well, I used a 12 v battery charger with male / female insulated connectors on both the outlet ends of the 12v side of the battery charger and the 12v wires going to the compressor .To make more portable for inside use. The other thing I used it for was clearing sludge blockages in microbore , disconnecting valve end from rad connecting suitable fittings and I had a piece of 8mm insertion tube that fitted tightly into the thumb valve of the compressor ,turn on the rad valve , turn on the compressor for 5sec ,then remove the end of the insertion tube into a bowl and with a bit of luck the sludge runs out , repeate if required. Of course there is a chance you push the sludge somewhere else but that never happened to me . Microbore is not as common today as it was in my time .but I can assure you this little dodge saved me hours and hours .very useful for where the microbore come off a 4 way inline manifold and sludge tended to settle blocking of the bottom tube.

Like the earth continuity. Safeisolation, polarity checks just theorelim checks before agas safety inspection on the boiler stuff like that
@@bertybollocks Ok I will try and do it but it won't be soon.
HeatingGeek mate anytime u can like Would be much appreciated thanks
What paste did u use?
Looks like jet blue plus
Yes Jet Blue Plus. Doesn't spill!!
@@HeatingGeek This takes Me back. I used to work for glowworm and service repair there range of products. Popular back then was the hot water express combi. Changed its name to the swift flow. I used to put injectors / jets in a cup of hot water then blow through or replace. Especially on Lpg where the gas was attracted to the brass👍. Good fault finding very methodical.
Thanks. :-) I hated swiftflows!!! Glad there gone.
Dear Heating Geek
Need some advice pls....my boiler glowworm ultimate 40bf...if fires up for 5 minutes and then goes back to pilot light...and then after 15min it fires up again for 5mins...pls help...what could be the culprit....the thermostat are all on full.....not sure why it keeps shutting after 5minutes
Blocked, slow pump, air in system,
Just a few for you there.
Boiler water return stat set too low?
I liked this video "STRAIGHT AWAY"
Thanks. The sound is sh#$ and I don't know why. ;-)
Nice work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you sir.
Most welcome
Surprised that a really knowledgable engineer like yourself would use any sort of tool to clean an injector
I knew someone would eventually say that.
I would think that too if I had done done it hundreds of times. British Gas allow their engineers to clean pilot injectors with a similar tool.
Im not reaming it out. Just clearing the hole. If I refitted the injector and the flame was elongated I would replace the injector. This isn't making the hole any bigger, just clearing it.
Give it a go.
If it works, boiler fixed.
If it doesn't boiler STILL broken. (nothing to loose)
:-) Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
HeatingGeek Thanks for your reply
It’s not a criticism I really enjoy your videos your knowledge of electronics is 2nd to none
And even after for 41 years in this industry I’m still learning but I’ve never felt the need to put any sort of object through an injector hole I just drop it in boiling water for a couple of minutes and then blow it through that seems to work without the risk of enlarging the whole
Keep up the good work as a say you are a top engineer thanks
@@jamiemerchant3327 I didn't take it as a criticism. It exactly what I believed until recently. I haven't enlarged one yet but that may happen. I have never tried boiling water tbh. Tried air duster and WD40 but didn't find it very effective.
I will try boiling water on the next one and see how it works. :-)
glow worm logic....use one nut and one wing nut.......would love to have been at that meeting.....lol
I think its because the access is tight so they changed it. Weird though,
I have a 21 year old glowworm ultimate and is wasn't heating up called gas man round and all it needed was the pilot light cleaning it was blocked. Soaked in hot water and it worked fine just charged me call out fee.
did someone fit the gas valve because the pilot injector was blocked?
I cant remember now. I think there was more too it than that.
Can you come and fix mine I’m in leeds
Sorry I didn’t respond to this comment. I didn’t see it in my feed. :-(
Good I work I too have had that fault so many times with them crap must just fail straight into it
Nice video a apart from the sound.
Yeah sorry. Still don't know why. Only becomes apparent once rendered. The sound is good in the editing software.
Thanks king
Can’t believe the 1st engineer couldn’t diagnose that
Lots of newer engineers would miss this. They don't see these boilers very much. :-)
@@HeatingGeek true, I enjoy working on the older stutt
Got an old concord to look at tomorrow
Pilot tube snapped today. Gas valve side after I replaced the gas valve.
Sorry I didn’t respond to this comment. I didn’t see it in my feed. :-(
Great video if we the crackle effect
Thanks :-)
Nice old boiler
I agree. One of the best. :-)
Was gas turned off all this time lol
👌
Thanks. ;-)
the first engineer changed the valve but couldn't clean a pilot injector? He needs to be better trained.
indeed. :-)
I thought sound was just me
unfortunately not. :-(
Repair ?? or service🤔😂😂😂
Errr... Repair kinda... ;-)
Great Video👍
Thanks. I can't find the issue with the audio at the moment but will have to redo it. Pain in the ass when I don't have a clue about this stuff.
Thanks. :-)
Great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching it.
