@@johnnybbgunner2136 😁 that’s funny, tonight I was actually thinking about it. Maybe 1-2 pumps would be enough? I’m thinking it might not do the worst out of all the guns I’ve used so far?
Good morning with you reporting seeing shavings I should have asked you about the breech diameter when you single loaded the rifle. Are the pellets seating all the way in the breech so the skirts are not getting shaved or damaged when closing the action? Sometimes the H&N Field Target Sampler Pack with it's different diameter pellets can help you determine if you have a tight diameter breech opening. Try to check the barrel crown consistency with the muzzle moderator removed?
The plunger mechanism makes it difficult to impossible to load a pellet by hand. I had to use tweezers to shoot it single shot and I only did it three times as it was a PITA. The probe pushes the pellet far enough in that it’s not shaving the back of the skirt, it appears it’s shaving the side of the skirt. The dumb thing started sticking again last night and wouldn’t feed unless I manually pushed on the crossbar to unstick it. This gun simply doesn’t function in cooler weather. It was 37°F when I when quit in frustration for the night.
Now the auto feed is working. Try the basics from the beginning. While you may not see damage in the baffle system may still cause turbulence causing inaccuracy. Please try it with the baffle removed. And a firm artillery hold. Pellet test at 30 feet to start.
I can definitely try that out! When you say firm artillery hold, is that keeping a firm hold on the grip but loose on the forearm? I’ve been trying to let the gun float. Today I was consciously pulling the trigger straight back like Dr. Russ described in one of his videos. When I got the trigger perfect it seemed to hit exactly where I was aiming. That was great and all but was difficult to replicate every time and seemed ridiculous that the dumb thing is that fricking sensitive. I mean I’m not shooting a handgun offhand. It’s a rifle off a bag at only 50’. I don’t think it should require so much babying just to shoot half as good as my other airguns.
@@airgunsofalaska I understand your thoughts. Yes it is different and takes effort and concentration. But if you can master this technique it will improve all your accuracy. Add on maintaining your aim after the shoot and you've got it down.
The lead shaving seems like a problem to me. If it was mine I’d load it like normal, then carefully push pellet back out of breech w cleaning rod to inspect for damage, I’d do this for entire mag. I don’t actually know how these mag fed break barrels work but if the probe isn’t perfectly aligned with bore, or if the probe isn’t seating the pellet deep enough you’ll have mangled pellets.
That’d work to show any damage, I’m just sitting here thinking about the process. I think when I uncock the mag can be removed. I think first I’ll just shoot into a bucket of water and see if that’ll work as it’ll be faster and easier. I suspect it is shaving pellets but it’d be nice to confirm it. If it is shaving them, I don’t think there is anything that can be done to correct it.

Glad to hear your honest feedback on this gun Your thoughts ?
I gave up on this gun after I confirmed it was shaving pellets and sent it back for a refund. I tried it for a little while using iron sights but didn’t see significantly different results. The auto loading mechanism while pretty simple and elegant is inherently flawed in my opinion as the plastic magazine can’t index the pellets centered to the bore. Add in the fact the mechanism repeatedly started sticking and failing to function properly I simply had enough. I’ve read about the pros and cons to shimming scopes. Had the gun not been such a POS I’d have ordered plastic scope shims but there was no point. I like your method to work though the scope issues.
Don't have any experience with Hammers scopes personally as my Gamo 22 Magnum gen 2 has a BSA scope and my Gamo Maxxim gen1 .177 caliber has an off brand scope . I never use the the scopes that come bundled with the gun . I always use a sturdy one piece mount on all of my break barrel guns , and use blue loctite on all the screws . I check the stock screws periodically as It does effect accuracy . Both my Gamo magazine fed guns function flawlessly , a little pellgun oil now and then keeps them working as designed . Most have a five warranty that my gen 1 Maxxim has outlived . Nothing has broke or failed to work . I get it ? Most air gunners don't like Gamo's for one reason or another , but one bad apple doesn't ruin the whole bunch . I understand your frustration , I felt that way that with the Diana Model 54 Air King I had , for a higher end product should have never had all those problems. Not up to the hype in my opinion . Sent it back , they wanted to know why so I told them and I didn't hold back . My Hatsan 125 sniper is now a paperweight ( Vortex Garbage ) . Good luck with that MagFire . Not a fan of those . Bummer about your Air King. I love mine but my first one arrived damaged with a cracked stock so I was able to exchange it for a new, replacement gun. I like the repeater break barrel concept but this Mag-Fire had way too many issues. It was my first introduction into an airgun that was given great reviews by some big UA-cam channels but definitely didn’t live up to the hype. I’ve watched and read mixed things about all the brands of break barrel repeaters since then. I’m not sure I want to try my luck with another one, regardless of brand.
I don't blame you ! Once bitten twice shy kind of thang . Loading one pellet at a time doesn't bother me , its old school airgunning for sure . Nothing to really fail , break the barrel install pellet . Simple , I like simple. Best of luck on your next return 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.😬
Hey that's some good progress! I would have just said screw it I don't want to deal with all this lol. About the sound from the power plant that's definitely something I've noticed about nitros and cheap/powerful springers. My hearing is on the sensitive side and I have to plug my right ear when I shoot some break barrels cus the powerplant gives off this sound like metal hitting metal and it's loud enough to make my ear ring every time. Just another little annoyance that makes me want to reach for a pumper instead.
Thanks, it was only due to viewer comments that I gave the gun another try. Saturday night I was totally done with it. I may still change my mind as aside from the repeater break barrel feature the gun adds nothing to my collection. Right now I suspect I’ll need the fast follow up shots to take out a squirrel as it shoots so inconsistently. There is part of me that just wants to run the gun until it fails so I can unequivocally say that gas pistons guns are junk. But then I think what else I could get for the money (assuming I’d get a full refund on return). Now that I’ve slept on it I realize I’m not particularly enamored with this gun. Maybe I give it another week or two and see how I feel then. I was watching reviews on that Seneca Dragon and aside from all the extra pumping over my 362, it looks really good. This Magfire is hard to like as it’s unpleasant and difficult to shoot. My lowly B3-2 is at least pleasant to shoot and decently accurate. Both have screws that work loose so it’s like, aside from the repeater function, what else does the Magfire really bring to the table?
Another thing to mention real quick, the head diameter on crosman pellets is incredibly inconsistent, I measured 10 from 3 tins that I have and they’re all different from each other, so maybe that has an impact on the guns performance as well, maybe it would do better with a larger head diameter
Interesting! That could be, when I tried them yesterday and they shot reasonably well so I figured I’d just stick with them as they load really easily into the magazine and I have a lot of them. Also, I’ve read and watched repeatedly where people say Crosman guns tend to like Crosman pellets. The Hatsan Strikes load easily as well but shoot way off to the right for some reason. I didn’t want to max the windage on my new scope to compensate as that’s what I was having to do with the original scope on most of the pellets. What I struggle with is why some guns just shoot well, are not pellet picky and why others like this one need all this extra work just to get within the realm of barely passable? If it turns out it’s shaving pellets than I’d say game over, it’s an inherently flawed system that’ll only produce inconsistent, mediocre accuracy that’ll only get worse and parts wear.

I al thinking about getting a fixed barrel, and then use this only with a dot scope or the original fixed sights and use it for close distance rat murder. A thing is that the barrel, if you screw out the baffle, is actually very short! I bought a Chinese fixed barrel for like 70$ in Denmark lile 25 years ago, which was actually much more accurate 🤣
I just tried to remove the scope and use the "steel sights", it now can hit a dime at 10 meter / yards - i found that this break barrel has enormous amounts of play sideways and probably up and down as well.
