Yes, this also works (commonly called 'back button focus') and I use it other cameras. But for the GR, the shutter button is so nicely placed and with a good 'feel' that I find it easier to hold the camera in one hand with the technique I described rather than using my thumb on the back button. But of course you should use what's most comfortable for you! :)
I love it!! I do love physics and science, so I do feel I have a bit more of a methodical approach, haha. But I think the best results when it comes to art require both creativity and logic.

Why don’t you use highlight metering? Makes great silhouettes in front of bright lights.
You can use the switch button to lock the as well hold focus as well. On the GR iii you have to keep your FN button pressed for similar

I saw 25600 iso. How noisy were the files? If it can handle that kind of iso I will buy one too. 😜
