Sean, I’m a pastor and actually started getting into photography because of you. I want to say thanks for being so authentic and transparent - always encouraging and willing to teach others. Love your work and I hope one day I’ll get to meet you. Just wanted to drop a line and say I appreciate you!
You demonstrate that simple is not simplistic. Your approach avoids the paralysis of analysis. I’m very prone to that kind of imaging malady, ending up chasing my own tail with multiple alternatives presented by an overload of imaging apps, what’s the latest. The simplicity of a few well chosen tools is a lesson that I must habitually relearn. Your approach is the embodiment of “the play’s the thing.” Output matters. Once more you have shown us all the virtues of well chosen tools used in sequence. Thank you @sean.
Thanks Sean, I have lived under a rock for so long. At 32 I never had a cell phone and I just got one. Even if a cellphone offers plenty of possibilities, I think you just justified my purchase. Really useful!
I've been editing in Snapseed on my android tablet since 2016, it's just convenient and very useful and easy to use. The ability to store images to a cloud while travelling was appealing too. Thanks for sharing this! You always make good sense.
Moving to a smaller system I shoot a lot more. This video is perfect because I have been wanting to get a better mobile workflow and this is exactly what I needed.
This is great. Starting about two years ago, I found that I was editing on mobile more and more frequently (with a workflow very similar to yours). It's so much more liberating, but I've always had a little apprehension that I was not doing "real" edits this way, even though I found myself getting on the computer less and less. You've given me the confidence to just go with it from here on out!
When the new foldable phones become widely available and affordable they will be excellent for photo editing from a coffee shop. Fits in a pocket and opens up to the size of a tablet. Nice!
Great video. For info, Amazon Prime Photo only recognises specific types of RAW files which means that if, like me, you have Panasonic RW2 files which are not on the list, they can be uploaded but won’t be counted as part of your unlimited photo storage plan on Prime. The workaround is to convert to DNG before uploading and then it will be classified as a RAW file that is supported in the free unlimited photo storage plan. The list of currently supported RAW files that can be stored for free is Nikon (NEF files), Canon (CR2 Files), ARW (Sony), CRW (Canon RAW CIFF image), ORF (Olympus) files, DNG files. Hope this helps somebody.
The border is a great idea to keep your original composition. I’ve always struggled with that because I felt like I had to compromise my composition to get the correct aspect ratio for Instagram. I will be using this tip. You’re one of the photographers that inspired me to get into photography. Thank you so much
Great video. Love this "skill over gear" vibe. I've had so many photographers and other people say stuff like "Yeah if only I had such a great camera like you do". But when you offer them to swap gear they become pretty hessitant all of a sudden. GReat camera's don't make great images. Great photographers do. As you clearly show again and again.
9:43 I thought so too but now I use white borders for almost any image I upload and I use dark mode myself. It still shows my pictures how I want them and makes them even look better imo :)
I've been in the habit of shooting stuff for Instagram solely on my phone, JPEGs, in 1:1 format. It's an interesting challenge for me to shoot in that aspect, and only as a sort of walkin'-around sketch/diary practice. I started doing this because it was such a hassle to get my "real" photos onto the platform (moving them from camera or phone to laptop, adding borders in PS or whatever, etc.). But thanks to this mini-series, I'm now eyeing my old RX100 and some new apps for my phone. Thanks for another generously presented and helpful video.
Thanks Sean, you opened my eyes to using my old Sony a6000 WiFi setting to send images into ligthroom mobile on my phone. It's given me the freedom to shot, edit and post all on the go, thank you so much.
I've watched a few of your videos today and feel so inspired to get out and shoot again. I've been in a rut with a big bit of kit which was becoming more of a faff to use, so I didn't and my phone (14Pro) is just too perfect; I like a camera! At the end of 2023 I found an old 2005 GR Digital II and really enjoyed using it and have decided to go for a GRIII for the faster RAW (8 seconds to save on my GR DII!) and the touch focus. I look forward to watching more of your videos. I loved your interview in London, it was great to see familiar locations and why was the Barbican so deserted?
I’ve already been using LR mobile - mainly with Fuji and Panasonic cameras. Just downloaded Polarr for my phone and iPad to try out those sweet frames. Thanks!!
When I used GR3 before, I also liked to transfer it to my mobile phone for retouching. And use two apps, LR and retouch. Later, during my working hours, I was not allowed to take GR to shoot in the street. I gave it to my uncle. I only left a Nikon Z6 to shoot on weekend
Awesome video Sean. Can't believe tutorials like this are free. I love the focus on accessibility with street photography - I take much better photos when I just go out with my camera and one lens, because when I have a big bag full of filters and lenses I can't slow down and enjoy the process as much.
Enlightment!! I just want to capture more and spend less time with the lenses and post pro. Maybe it's time to sell my dslr and buy pocket size camera. Hope that I can learn your collection III as soon as possible. Again thanks Sean.
Have a look at the Sony RX100M7 I got it before our lockdown here in NZ. Its been Brilliant Fits in my pocket no problem, it does take time to get use to The menu is not a problem unless you expect something different Or worse you demand something else, be inquiring Mark Gayler has a book on how to use it Gary Friedman has one as well They compliment each other as they come from different angles
Seb Gevers for me, when I want to make a composite photo, like layering one atop the other, I needed the eraser tool. They took it out and I used it a lot... so I hope they put it all back
Fantastic Sean.. You made it so simple.. I will certainly go for GR 3 which can be loaded directly to phone and edit like pro.. Thank you and God bless you
Thanks. The Polar tip is great for anyone sticking to the Instagram square - I’m downloading that now. For cameras that don’t have WiFi (or only allow JPEG transfer over WiFi or Bluetooth), I’ve had some success with FlashAir SD cards. My almost geriatric GR has one of these. Thanks also for inadvertently pointing out some of my own bad habits (You may call me Mr. Clarity, eternally 25).
Thanks as always Sean. I tend to pound through processing in LR on my computer but the ap process you described is really not much different in concept than what I do already so you inspired me to give this a try. Old habits die hard for us old guys. Looks perfect for times when I'm just sitting around in virtual/zoom meetings or during lunchtime at work. Certainly more fun than listening to the drone in some meetings. The backup suggestion was a good one since i have prime.
Great video, Sean. I am down to my LeicaQ as my take everywhere all the time camera, and this quick-editing approach and adding borders was something I was missing. Keep up the good work.
yet again another useful well made video. i myseld use darkroom and afterlight which has an integrated brush tool (handy for portraits for example make the eyes pop a little more). cheers!
You can also use Snapseed to add borders, if you select the expand option in tools and select white. Also it doesn't compress the image like some apps do
True, but none of the apps mention compress your images and I find the border tool in Snapseed a little clunky with less control over exact border width which means consistency becomes an issue.
This is what I do, but I've found that it does compress the images, even with resolution set to original and quality set to 100 percent. The files sizes of the edited jpegs are almost always a third to half the size of the originals, in my experience. The images look identical, but it's throwing data away somewhere. With Polarr, the border seems to crop into your photo rather than expanding it like snapseed does, though, which I find annoying.
Hi Sean great stuff. I shoot with a little Panasonic LUMIX TZ100 for walkabout shoots (Fuji X100V primary) it too links with my Pixel 3 and I use the same system LRCc and Amazon Prime photos. The border idea was useful too Regards Mark
Hey Sean, thanks for making this video, was using whitagram on android but its not available these days in play store, didn't know about polar but certainly going to use it from now on and lightroom too for a change.
With the current version of Instagram on my iPhone and iPad, one does not need Polarr or Whitagram. In Instagram, after the image has been selected, and just before the post sequence of commands, use squeeze to add borders. This works for both landscape and portrait images.
Great video. Been doing very similar for a long time with Adobe and currently use the Note 10+ as you do but need to try Polarr though as I get more into Instagram. Unbeatable combo. I'm just an X100 fan, as I never got along with the 28mm on the Ricoh (but outstanding little camera)... Learn something from every one of your videos. Thanks!
“Any improvement comes incrementally, and in photography, that increment comes one shot at a time.” 👍
Sean, I’m a pastor and actually started getting into photography because of you. I want to say thanks for being so authentic and transparent - always encouraging and willing to teach others. Love your work and I hope one day I’ll get to meet you. Just wanted to drop a line and say I appreciate you!
Thank you Sean.. you don't keep any secrets. Thank you for revealing all your editing process.
You demonstrate that simple is not simplistic. Your approach avoids the paralysis of analysis. Quite simply one of the best photography channels anywhere.
I am glad Sean edits via mobile too, I am in good company!
Thanks Sean, I have lived under a rock for so long. At 32 I never had a cell phone and I just got one. Even if a cellphone offers plenty of possibilities, I think you just justified my purchase. Really useful!
Flawless finish. You can really talk photos without a pause. Bravo 🙂😀
Sean, I just want to say thank you for all your videos. Definitely made a difference to my mindset in photography. I wish you well
Such a great and more importantly, authentic teacher of art and philosophy!!!
Been waiting for this. Proves you don’t need much to create works of art...keep it simple
Nice work Sean. This has quickly become one of my favorite channels.
The border is such a lifesaver. Seriously thanks for that
This is great. Starting about two years ago, I found that I was editing on mobile more and more frequently (with a workflow very similar to yours). Very similar setup to how I edit on my iPhone. Thanks for the Amazon photos tip... I'll be using that!

Thanks 4 the info & workaround. Panasonic shooter here much appreciated.
Great video Sean, thank you so much for showing us your mobile workflow process. I hope your video on mobile photography is coming up soon.

Great how you were able to show the phone screen live in the video. Very interesting Sean. Thanks.
Yes please, also is so good the capture the cursor on the phone!!!
You speak through your heart. You are a nice man. I have and will learn from you a lot.😃
I’ve never tried Amazon Photos yet I’m an Amazon Prime subscriber. I’m going to take a look at that today! Thanks Sean, great tips!

By far one off the most helpful video I’ve ever seen 🙏
I was also wondering about the border, thanks for clearing that up.
Great video!
I’m using this year exclusively an iPad Pro and Lightroom for photo editing, it has been a game changer. Totally recommended.
I've watched a few of your videos today and feel so inspired to get out and shoot again. I've been in a rut with a big bit of kit which was becoming more of a faff to use, so I didn't and my phone (14Pro) is just too perfect; I like a camera! I love ❤️ all your information on
Photography…Thanks so much
I’ve already been using LR mobile - mainly with Fuji and Panasonic cameras. Just downloaded Polarr for my phone and iPad to try out those sweet frames. Thanks!!
You make all this look so easy !
The way you play down shooting and post production is just great.
Thanks for that.
Thank you for another helpful look behind your work process.
Thanks for sharing your workflow dude. That's a great little set up!
Thanks Sean - great video. Have downloaded Polarr as that border tip is very useful.

I love the focus on accessibility with street photography - I take much better photos when I just go out with my camera and one lens, because when I have a big bag full of filters and lenses I can't slow down and enjoy the process as much.
Love it Sean! Thank you! Now can you also teach us how you make this video with mirroring your phone? You make everything look so easy.
Thanks, Sean. I find your explanations super clear.
Thanks for this Sean, these apps will come in very handy!
thanks Sean, really excellent videos. have a canon 5d mk4 and recently bought a canon m10 for the same reason as yourself, fun shooting with it.
Excellent informative video, I had no idea. Thank you very much
very nice...so now i will keep it simple as i can...thank you so much.
Great video, Sean! Thanks for sharing your mobile edit and backup strategies!
Enlightment!! I just want to capture more and spend less time with the lenses and post pro. Maybe it's time to sell my dslr and buy pocket size camera.
Hope that I can learn your collection III as soon as possible.
Again thanks Sean.
Go for it, you’ll be amazed with quality of your shooting 👍
Have a look at the Sony RX100M7
I got it before our lockdown here in NZ. Its been Brilliant
Fits in my pocket no problem, it does take time to get use to

Or worse you demand something else, be inquiring
Mark Gayler has a book on how to use it
Gary Friedman has one as well
They compliment each other as they come from different angles
Oh my god, I've found someone else who uses Polarr, I literally thought I was the only one 😂. Good to know I'm in good company!!
SAME!! I use POLARR too! Every single photo goes through the app for me BUT their new ‘look’ is horrid
@@BarrettBaker_photos i dont mind it (it could never be as bad as VSCO), but I'm not happy the spot removal tool has gone.
Seb Gevers for me, when I want to make a composite photo, like layering one atop the other, I needed the eraser tool. They took it out and I used it a lot... so I hope they put it all back
I love Polarr, it's a shame it doesn't edit RAWs as RAWs. This is the only reason I switched to CaptureOne on desktop.
You are not alone.
I prefer the black border 'during processing' finding it very useful for matching my blacks in my images.
Snapseed has always been my favourite.
I wish google kept its raw capabilities up to date, it’s been falling behind the technology recently :(
Yeah it's must have app
@Joe Trent I use another app to convert all my files to png.
Me too 😆
I use an app called raw2dng so I can import sony ARW into Snapseed
I use Lightroom and over app for the boarders. Thank you for sharing your process.
This video is amazing! Thank you!
Fantastic Sean.. You made it so simple.. I will certainly go for GR 3 which can be loaded directly to phone and edit like pro.. Thank you and God bless you
4mins in and I love it ! 👍🏽😎
I'm using Samsung Note 8 and LR Mobile to edit my Raw files! Cheers! That pen is really useful! :D Wonderful vid again. :)
Cheers Sean, something I need to improve on.
I love snapseed, its great for dodge and burning.
Thanks. The Polar tip is great for anyone sticking to the Instagram square - I’m downloading that now. Awesome videos Sean! You turned me onto Darkroom and I love it!! Especially the ease in creating borders 😊
Great tips on here been using LR' Amazon and Snapseed but never heard of Polarr thanks for the tip.
Thanks as always Sean. I tend to pound through processing in LR on my computer but the ap process you described is really not much different in concept than what I do already so you inspired me to give this a try. I was waiting for it, I am shure it will be great!
Good job Sean! Always learn something that I can take away even when what take away is not specific to your prime subject matter. Appreciate it!
Great video as always Sean. Thank you for making such easy viewing info!!
Great video.
Special on how to backup, thanks.
Sean, a great instructional post. Thanks!
Great video, really great
As always...a great one!
Love the videos. Keep it up. Love hearing from someone intelligent for a change.

Thank you Sean. God Bless You from Indonesia
Hi Sean, can you share How to manage a Library ? The cell phone space, cloud , pc and all .
Thanks for doing this, perfect for the direction I want to go in. Keep it simple. I think I’d like to use it on an iPad.
Hi Sean great stuff. I shoot with a little Panasonic LUMIX TZ100 for walkabout shoots (Fuji X100V primary) it too links with my Pixel 3 and I use the same system LRCc and Amazon Prime photos.

Loved the Amazon Photo tip! TIL.
I wouldn't be able to rely on the small screen of a phone for photo-video editing, but obviously it works really well for you!
I've been using only Snapseed, but I'll try out Lightroom now!
Snapseed is somehow more simple and accurate with the sliders
Been using Snapseed for the longest. You can put a filter then draw out the areas you don't want a filter to affect
Lightroom is a beast!
Try polarr aswell. That was my go to before I paid for lightroom as it has HSL sliders and curves
This is great. I learned a couple of new tips in using Lr mobile. Thank you!!
thank you for sharing ....... learning and improving 🤓
Great tutorial Sean. Thanks Jeremy
I have always wondered which app can be used for those borders. I just learned a lot. Thank you so much.
You can use Snapseed too, it’s the “expand” option.
@@GarmanyRachel Thank you for your suggestion 🙂🙏🏻

I'm familiar with the feature Jeff but you'll find you still can't get the 3:2 aspect ratio unfortunately, which is how I shoot and compose.
Sean Tucker Right. More testing shows that after one adds borders with the squeeze, Instagram removes half the borders during the post.
Surprising to know that many of ur phone edits ate printed into ur Book ..
edited on ur phone !!! Stunning !!! Cheers,vernon_alvares, mumbai
Another useful video. Thanks !!!
Great video, really good and useful info! Thank you for making this video and help us all become better photographers - cheers!
I subscribed after hearing that you dont spend that much time in editing...same as me...I avoid over thinking...great video!😀
