Top Chief @ Fort William - Sickest Trail I've Ridden!

- Top Chief. OMG what an amazing trail. Literally the best trail I've ever ridden. I've watched so many other edits on UA-cam to get a general idea what's it's all about. Well let me tell you this, the edits do not do it justice in the slightest. It's so well built but it's scary. The north shore is just ridiculously good. Chicken wire on the wood will help maintain the grip. That said, don't go silly on it if you've not ridden it before. The speed creeps up on you big time. The drop aways are bigger than the GoPro makes out also. Hit Top Chief with the respect it deserves and you'll be buzzing all the way down.
Looking back on this right now. I'm glad my skill level is where it is. This would be a hard trail to enjoy if your ability doesn't match. It's not about the speed, it's mainly confidence. If you have that then bingo.
Top Chief is a killer on the hand and you'll need good brakes as this bad boy is steep from top to bottom. Some really tricky technical sections to pick your way through makes it incredible. Fort William is outstanding. Of course, it's a long way to go from Portsmouth, but oh boy - it was totally worth it.
Enjoy

Best trail I've ridden. Seriously - I have nothing else to say LOL
That’s a hell of a top to bottom run in one go!
Wow 15 mins of non stop dh what a dream. Fort William has been on my hit list since the first time I saw you ride it. Looks epic 🤟
Totally agree with you. I rode it this year. Best trail of my life. I was almost a bit sad as its 3000km from home and i dont know if ill ever get a chance to do it again.
Wow! That's was chunky chunky trail, nice video and thanks for sharing
The camera does no justice to how chunky and steep TC is. You rode the river crossing super smooth. I sometimes find it hard to carry speed round the corner into it and end up with wet feet 😄.
The conditions look great you was lucky ...
I’m gona end up wet and slipping off Saturday lol 😆🙈it’s raining all day
Good luck though bud. The rocks are super grippy. Well, for rocks anyway 😂😂

I’m going on my own to lol 😆
But meeting a mate the next day for his locals and golfie .. just about to leave for the epic drive in two hours time 😆🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Awesome and utterly savage in equal measures by the looks of that… nice one dude, thanks for sharing 💪👊💥 I’m not sure what would break first, me or my Scott 😃
I did see a HT on this at one point. Never saw it again 😂😂😂

Nevis range is now my local trail but Im only used to English and Welsh reds so trying to slowly build my confidence . Done Blue Doon (too easy ) and the red downhill at Glencoe ( managable but crashing in the same place twice dented my confidence ) .
Are there unavoidable drops and jumps on top chief ?
Do you suggest hiring some armour and going for it at a reasonable pace ?
I will be on a hardtail also .
Hard tail will certainly be challenging buddy. I took armour because my body is battered anyway. You can take chicken lines on certain sections but it's still challenging regardless.
Good video, that trail looks a lot of fun
Best video you've done for me .....Great stuff ...wonder if you could ride it on a hardtail ..... I ve always fancied giving it a try .....
Thanks steve
Great vid 👍 gutted when i went up for my 50th it was closed due to poor visabilty 😕 but done all the lower trails, did you prebook the uplift day? As you had lovely weather 👍👍👍
Pre booked it bud. We were just so lucky all week weather wise. Bloody amazing it was
WOW Mike, serious trail that eh dude? It is apparently graded as black, but I would have put it at more of a tech red myself? Well, like a BPW tech red anyway!
Its a black mate in my mind. Its so much worse in real life. Serious consequences in some areas 😂😂
Ride it then you realise why it's black. The camera doest do it justice. Can't be compared to ay BPW red !!!
Everyone who has has ridden the TC and the WCDH. all say the Top Chief is harder and more physical. And then the Down Hillers point out that the black at Glen Coe is harder than both
You should see Lewis Buchanan’s video. He was flying through this and he called it “chilled run”. Sick trail
Chilled if your used to this sort of trail 😂😂 I'm Certainly not 😂😂 cheers dude
Your hands must've been killed after that! Looks pretty phisically and technically demanding and long. I like Your approach to it as well reasonable, careful but still decent riding 👊
Thanks buddy. Means a lot
Do you think it’s possible on a hard tail?
Saw someone on one bud and he survived 😂
Yep, me and my buddy have ridden TC and the DH on our hardtails many many times. You just need to take your time in some of the sections on both trails. For me these trails are about taking your time and really soaking up the experience and the views - a hardtail forces you to take it a little slower! Go for it!
you sound so like gee atherton
did you drive there
We did bud. 9 hours. Stayed for the week though. Tons more to come
