They say the pain experienced during childbirth is second only to the pain one feels when a pitcher loses a no-hitter with two outs.
I don’t want to know what Harvey Haddix felt then
Dave Steib syndrome
Ask Dave Stieb!!
I have never seen hitters look more lost at the plate. This game is right up there with Woods 20k and Klubers 18k games in terms of sheer dominance in a performance
You forgot max scherzers 20k
@@my2l what’s insane about Max’s game is he nearly got 21. Was a breaking ball that the hitter reached for and hit a slow roller. And it was his first game against his former team too. As I watched in heartbreak 💔
I remember this game well. As a Jays fan, I was heartbroken for Morrow. His stuff was always filthy, he just struggled to put it together as a starter. This game was a sign of his potential!
He used all his power early in his career and spent the rest of it on the DL.
so glad he's back with the Dodgers. I don't expect him to be as good as he was, but he was great in 2017 as a reliever
Ya I’m glad he’s back
And in 2018 or 19, whichever year he was closing with the Cubs
Great seeing the Jays content, if you ever want to dabble into again you should take a closer look at Steve Pearce's two walk off grand slams in a week 👍🐦
When did he do that? I enjoyed him right before he retired
@@jasonmatteson9909 2018 i believe.
Honestly, Thank you. I am a die hard Blue Jay fan and i was watching this game as it happened. I bring it up all the time to Baseball fans. This game is so very overlooked and truly was a gem of a Pitching performance. 17 strikeouts. Vernon Wells left the game with a bruised foot , diving up against the center field wall, while in an effort to keep the no no going. I also never forgave Aaron Hill for not getting that ground ball. lol One out away, and a seeing eye single dribbles by the infield. I'll never forget this game. and now Hopefully, others will remember the night Brandon Morrow was untouchable. Thanks again for that great video.
Remember when Wells dove for that ball in center field and dropped it, but held it up and the ump made the out call? That would make a great Jolly Olive video!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU HE is one of my personal favorite players
Oh man, I remember being in the stands for that game as a kid. We would usually leave around the 7th or 8th inning because my Papa wanted to beat the Toronto traffic after the game, so when he wanted to stay until the end, it was a huge deal. We went up to the concourse level for the 9th so we could see the celebration if he indeed finished it off, get some photos, and then still try to get on the road before everyone else. My mom's favourite player was Aaron Hill, so when we saw the ball go off his glove, she was probably the most upset out of everyone. We were all praying to God that they would score it an error on Hill, so seeing the 1 appear in the hit column felt like a real punch to the gut. The entire hour-long car ride home was us talking about the game, and when the conversation started to drift to something else, one of us would've said something like "do you guys realize just how close we came to seeing a no-hitter?!" I'll never forget that night.
Love the video. As a Mariners fan I always like to keep tabs on players that leVe the team and how they do elsewhere. This performance, at the time raised my eyebrows again as the M's had Marrow, only to part ways. Ultimately neither the M's or Marrow did much of anything.
Let’s not overlook that he was pitching in a tight game too. Only 5 hits on the board for the Jays at the end of the game, and only one run scored the entire game. He was pitching under pressure the entire 9 innings. Bravo.
It was a career game alright.
I remember watching this live.
I remember watching that game!
I remember watching this game on that sunday! (I was 12 years old)
Banger
Dave Stieb deserves to be in Cooperstown!!! If he played for the Yankees he'd already be in...he was one of the best pitchers in the 80's
Love this performance, as a cub fan, wish he would have panned out as a closer but, oh well
He was pretty good just couldn't be healthy :(
@@GusbusGaming that's true
He was looking GREAT until he got hurt
I never forgot this puppy
This makes it all the more impressive because of the score of this game. All the other footage were games that were out of hand and surely hitters had given up a little bit or were subbed out. Not in this one 1-0 finish!!
This would be a good series idea
I was at this game just above the Jays bullpen.
Shitty part was seeing the two out squib get through then strike out the next batter.
That was just heart breaking.
Lovin all the Blue Jays content!!!
The blue jays I grew up as a kid 🥲
I remember watching this game in TV. He was absolutely lights out, completely overmatching Rays hitters with his fastball/slider mix.
Do one on Philip Humbert's perfecto w/the Chi Sox vs Seattle
I remember vividly watching this game. My mom had just moved into a new place and I have such a strong association of being in that house watching this game
I remember this game. Got black eye at my baseball practice in the morning, came back from the hospital to watch a gem. Bittersweet day overall.
Dave Stieb was one out away from a no hitter in back to back starts in '88.
Yes, that’s was just plain cruel. But at least he finally got it two years afterwards
I remember this game. My parents dragged me to the big box local furniture store to browse couches. I wandered off and hunkered down on the most expensive display, which happened to feature an armchair and big screen TV showing the Jays game. Eventually around the 7th inning, my parents came over and we all just sat around the TV, hoping for the no-hitter. That Longoria base hit was devastating, man.
I thought I was the only one who remembered it. I remember pleading for the scorekeepers to give Hill an error
"Pesky" is the perfect word to describe that Rays team. They reminded me of the 80s Cardinals with all those pesky contact hitters and speed but very little power. I mean Tommy Herr is one of the only modern baseball players I know with a plus 100RBI season while swatting less than 10 homers. I mean those are some deadball era stats right there. I think Willie McGee was their best hitter and all around player - and he's sadly been forgotten in favor of Ozzie Smith (which is totally understandable) but Willie was clearly their best all around player back in the mid to late 80s. They had some great pitching as well - led by another very good but forgotten guy - John Tudor.
Brandon Morrow had his moments, even when he was with the Mariners. I was at a game in Seattle in September 2008 when they were taking on the Yankees and he took a no-hitter into the 8th before giving up a hit. Definitely one of my favorite games I saw and I was sad to see him go to Toronto
I was at this game with my dad in the left field bleachers, it was unreal and something that I’ll always remember
Thanks for making this. As a teenage Jays fan in Toronto I had a big crush on Morrow and definitely remember watching this live.
I was there great performance
A lot of great pitching performances against that Rays team tbh. 3 perfect games no less which is tied for most all time with the Dodgers who have been around since the 1800s. All 3 of them were against this Rays core who had a pretty solid offense through those years. Weird.
great job keep up the good work don't you just love baseball all ways have always will enough said.
this is probably the most beautifully pitched game i’ve ever seen.
Brandon Morrow damn thats a name I haven't heard in a while
One might say you... forgot about him.
Man, he was drafted ahead of Cy Young winners couple of which are future HOFers.
I was there. it felt like a playoff game.
This is a funny video to come back to after the Dave Stieb doc that Secret Base did. The Jays seem pretty cursed
I was at this game. Section 217. Wells broke his toe on that catch
I had Morrow on my fantasy team that year. I’ll never forget seeing the box score that night. Blew my mind! Dominant!
The forgotten MVP: Miguel Tejada
Not bad...
Wear about Milwaukee Brewers ace 18 strikeout game in May of 2004??
Great vid
Thanks for this Jays feature, JO!! I remember this game well, and couldn’t believe it when Aaron Hill wasn’t able to field that hit cleanly for the last out. I’m sure he felt as bad as Morrow did.
I always loved watching BM pitch and rack up the K’s.
Miss those Jays uniforms tbh back when Doc Halladay and Vernon Wells were the faces of the franchise
This man always makes great videos and is too underrated. Give him Subs!!!
I was at this game. Thanks for the great video and bringing back good memories
Keep talking about the Jays please I love it
I was at this game nearly 11 years ago. I remember how badly we all wanted that grounder to Aaron Hill to be scored an E4, but I will never forget that day at the ballpark. It came completely out of nowhere and I am happy to have been witness to greatness, even if only for a day. Just nasty stuff.
Love these baseball videos lately
9:35 also just look at the movement between his pitches, his fastball is a straight zinger and his off-speed just drops last minute.
GREAT video!! I was the guy on twitter that sent you the thing about the rays in those perfect games! absolutely crazy
“There has been less and less no hitters”
2021: “hold my beer”
His stuff in that game would be good in 2023.
Love this content. Keep it up homie
Great to see your channel growing Jolly. Love the older school blue jays content
I actually remember this game, dude always had good stuff
3:46 *8, 8, and 1
Love the pitch by pitch breakdown! Great content as always!
This is gonna be great!
Then spider tac
What a great piece of content this is
I remember when Brandon Morrow was coming up with Toronto. Admittedly, I had forgotten about this game but can recall he had filthy stuff. He struggled with consistency and injury though. I think he eventually pieced it together as a solid bullpen arm later in his career.
Surprising that the hit to hill was scored a hit
Do a video on Fernando Rodney's 2012 season. I looked at it and it is really interesting
Jose Molina the most professional catcher
Man how good was vernon wells in his prime! Lots of flashbacks watching this vid
Slider looks like a curveball sheesh
Best video yet!
Fun fact joe mauer has broken up 3 no hitters in the ninth, tying horace clark who played in the 70s
I was there! Heck of a crowd
How about covering another masterpiece that's been forgotten. Game 7 of the 1991 WS between the Braves and Twins. Jack Morris vs.John Smoltz. Both went 10+innings in one for the ages.
Great looking mechanics, it looked like effortless gas. Sucks that he got injured.
Watch this guy as a Mariner and I really like him, mostly for the last name idk why. But I really like him
another good video - I think John Lackey gave up a leadoff hit once and than had 27up/out thereafter
Friendly reminder that Morrow was striking out 10 or 11 per 9 innings at a time when only guys like Felix Hernandez or Craig Kimbrel did that.
Dave Stieb Moment
Sadly for me, I do remember this game. Honestly though, Morrow was throwing gas, and had our number.
Always gotta get Morrow in MLB the Show, first season and hell put up around a 1.90 era in the bullpen😂
Man is cracked in BR of if ykyk
Hello
So the Rays get Perfected once, No hit once and struck out 17 time in a near no hitter in one year. Dang
The world would’ve been different if he makes that play at second gotta be hard to remember for my boy
Fast Fact: He was the Captain of the Dallas Stars NHL team.
Morrow was a great pitcher, WHEN healthy. It's too bad that he was hurt SO much.
1:08
Was that a mistake?
Nah think it was part of the beat
Pretty large strikezone that day. Great vid though.
I've always liked morrow's wind up ..... Damn why are the rays always getting no hit 😂😂
I was at this game 😅
I’m still salty the Mariners drafted Brandon Morrow over Tim Lincecum especially since Timmy was a local guy. But hey Morrow had a longer career, but Tim was obviously better
I feel like every journeyman mlb player started with the rays
When the cubs got morrow I was excited until he got hurt
if he was with the rays today, he'd be an ace
Fast Fact: Having been a superstar NHL player with the Dallas Stars, Morrow would only play for Toronto.
Great vid Jolly, to bad you gave away the video idea on the stream to easy lmaoao.
I’m like 75% sure I was at that game
