The 2002 Angels were comprised of many of the same players from losing teams of the recent past. But through a dominant bullpen, a potent lineup, and a Rally Monkey, they conquered a dynasty and rode the magic to a World Series.

One of the most popular World Series winners ever. No matter how heartbreaking things get for us Halo fans, 2002 always remains like some type of North Star. The rare title winner that's respected by seemingly everyone.

Imagine the Angels this year won the championship this season. After all the ridicule and heartbreak for Angels fans, on Ohtani's walk year, they manage to win it all after having been winless in the postseason for the entirety of the 2010s while having Trout for most of it and Ohtani for some. And then you wake up.

This season was the same year as the famous Moneyball year for the Oakland A's. Imagine the Oakland front office doing all that work just to see their division rival win the whole thing. The same Twins team that ended the 2002 Athletics was dismantled by the Angels. 2002 was a great year. Two teams that I like faced off in the World Series and went to 7 games. I hope to see something like that again in the future, but seeing how both their seasons are going, it might take a while.

My dad got cancer in 2002. My uncles all pitched in to take him to every home playoff game that year. He saw them win the championship in person, and told me that’s how he fell in love with baseball and specifically Angels baseball. While these days he pretty much gets all his baseball news and stats from me, I will always know that if it weren’t for that fateful 02 team I may have never fallen in love with this beautiful sport.

I've been an Angel's fan since I moved to Orange County in 1977. I lived in Orange, literally 3 miles from the stadium. Went to 100s of games. I had screamed so much through Games 6 & 7 that I lost my voice. When they won the series I just stood in front of my TV and cried. They truly were the Cinderella team of all time in my book. I'll never forget it.

Angels fan for 30 years. That team was just all around solid. Starters that could eat innings and could go into the 6th-7th inning on a regular basis. Some occasional pop from Glaus and Salmon, and guys like Darin Erstad who knew how to work the count and put the ball in play on a regular basis. The stars aligned perfectly that year and it was a beautiful thing to watch.

This will always be my favorite World Series team. The team got built through the minor league system with Tim Salmon, Garrett Anderson, Troy Glaus, Darin Erstad, Jarrod Washburn, Troy Percival, John Lackey, and K-Rod coming out of it. At the time the team payroll was 16th in the league and that was during Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, and Dodgers spending wars with top free agents. For five years going back 1997 Marlins team whoever can spend the big bucks will most likely be in the World Series and winning it. Angels World Series victory became important as it reset the big spend trend. The following year Marlins won it with a team mostly built through their system. Teams realize they can build a talented team through their minor system put their investment into it.

My favorite American League team has always been the Angels, and my favorite National League team being the Giants, so I was psyched for the 2002 "Wild West World Series." I even have the official MLB Documentary DVD "The 2002 World Series: Heaven in Seven."
Great video here, lots of other little details not mentioned on the DVD. I saw the Angels play (live in Anaheim) a few times after their WS win when they still had K-Rod and Percival. I'll never forget when "Percy" came out to close (and save) one of those games; he came out to the Godsmack song, "Keep Away." Brilliant choice, and now it's that moment I think of whenever I hear the song.
Last bit, it's funny that several years after the fact, at least four or five players from the 2002 World Series winning Angels would end up on the St. Louis Cardinals where they would win another World Series title with the Cardinals.

Great breakdown of the last Angels WS championship. The only way the Angels will win another 1 is if they get a new owner. Which was soooooo close from happening this past year. Oh well🤷🏻‍♂️

This was the season I fell in love with baseball. This is also the season that has caused delusional optimism for angels fans year after year even with horribly constructed rosters. The spirit of this 2002 team is still with fans today, for better or for worse .

Simple. He was always a slow starter, put up average numbers the first half of the season (when All Star votes are tabulated), then he heated up in the 2nd half. They used to say, "As the weather got warmer, so did Salmon."

Speak for yourself mate, that 02 team ripped my heart out as a Giants fan.
Though with time I can say I appreciate them. They remind me of a couple of the 2010s Giants world series winners, squads with a lot of talent but little in the way of bona fide superstars destined for the Hall of Fame.

I found it so funny you posted this video today because I was literally talking about this team with David Eckstein yesterday. I went to a comic con and was waiting online to meet his wife Ashley (who voices Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars). David was there at her booth. Im a Yankees fan so i jokingly told him I was at him for knocking us out in 2002. He was super nice. I was super short as a kid so I always liked him because he was always one of the shortest guys in the league so I looked up to him.

In Game 6, when Felix Rodriguez came in and Scott Spiezio hit that 3-run home run, everyone knew the Angels were going to come back and win it. Very much similar to Jim Leyritz's homer in Game 4 of the '96 Series -- all the damage was dealt with one swing.

They somehow played way above their weight class in some of the most clutch moments of the 02 season. Also Anderson played LF. Erstad owned center😂

Nice amazing video about the Angel's needing to do this year. Team work, everyone team work. That has the way to come together to win and maybe even save Ohtani to win a world series. The Angel's are right now do anything to get to world series right now. This video shows what a team can do by doing the impossible to fight against the greatest teams of their time. History may repeat this year and that would be another poetic way of baseball. Also, the Angel's never giveup when down, so oretty poetic when someone let's up or makes an error for tye Angel's they will take anything. Also, crazy how this world series win had a huge impact for years to come for many major teams.

Fun fact: Before I got MLB THE SHOW 23 as a gift from a friend, I booted up 22 and made a last created player. And just simulated the entire season.
The Angels won. Going .651 in the season and passing through the gauntlet. Ohtani went mvp, obviously. The first thing he did after winning October?
He went to Seattle. Won again that season.

Barry Bonds was my hero growing up and this World Series crushed me. I knew it was over after we blew game 6. Ive cried literally maybe 4 times in my entire 30 something years of life and that night I legit almost cried. If I wasn't watching the game with my dad I probably would've dropped a few tears but he would've beat my ass if he saw that.
I wanted Barry Bonds to get that World Series ring soooo bad that season and the fact that he absolutely DOMINATED that World Series and playoffs in general was even worse.
To this day I low-key hate monkeys because of that season. Dope video though dude. keep it up!

Well, the birds were ahead in the late innings of one game until that damn monkey showed himself, and wouldn't you know it, the Angels rallied and won the game. I saw it with my own eyes. It was real.
