I mean, Buggy's backstory is canon and appears in the manga covers, it was just extended and given dialogue in these two episodes.
I honestly miss when they did that, animating the manga covers was a great way to add few episodes in between arcs.
@@yasthekratos Agreed! Maybe in the remake they will adapt them all
@@yasthekratosthey only did it a couple of times unfortunately.
Oh damn I must’ve missed those cover stories!
shout out to the editing!
we see u 👀
Zoro lost his other two swords during the fight vs Mihawk, only Kuina's sword surivived that fight
Not filler, it's a cover story, one of two that were fully adapted.
For these two episodes, the only thing they added was dialogue, and the scenes with the Straw Hats. Everything else happened in the cover story.
Movies: They have canon characters but none of them are canon to the story, not even the ones Oda wrote. He didn't want it so that people had to watch the movies, that they could get the entire story from the manga/anime.
Where you are right now, you can watch the first two without worrying about spoilers.
"Loguetown" being the island of the beginning and the end of Roger hints that Oda came up with the name doing a play on words with "!prologue" and "epilogue"
Neat! Didn’t notice that!
There are a lot of pop culture reverences through out the anime (some are obvious others not so much) and he also seems to like French language, I'm bilingual and i see French words pop up often. (Sanji`s attacks are mostly all French words)
François l'Olonnais which Zoro's name was inspired from & Mihawk's looks were inspired from were also French.
But I also noticed a lot of German (e.g. Don Krieg), Ithürzburger Stein Wine (probably inspired from Würzburger Stein). The Map which appeared when Koby 1st explained the Red Line & Grand Line to Luffy & Zoro, etc
So dope!
7:50 some of the later movies have a few episodes in the show that leads up to them, so they can be good to watch after those 😊
But from what I understand it’s like this:
Movie 1 - between Syrup village and Baratie
Movie 2 - After East Blue saga (episode 53) before the next (episode 61) •there’s filler with at least one cannon scene between these as well•
Movie 3 - right after episode 91
Movie 4 - right after episode 130
Movie 5 - right after episode 206 •though it is a sequel to the previous, the straw hats are aware of information you get in the episodes in between these episodes•
Movie 6 - between 219 and 229 •filler in between here•
Movie 7 - same as the one before
Movie 8 - it’s a summary of a previous arc, so you can skip this
Movie 9 - it’s a new version of a previous arc, but featuring new characters. If you wanna watch it’s after episode 325
Movie 10 - first movie Oda wrote the script for. There are a short and 4 special episodes that happen before this movie, the short is called “episode 0” and the episodes are 426-429. So I think you should watch it right after these, even if it’s set between episode 381-385.
Movie 11 - not sure I’d recommend this, because of some discrepancies, but it’s sometime between 381 and 517
Movie 12 - This one has special episodes as well, 575-578, so watch after these
Movie 13 - more special episodes! 747-750, though this is sort of a filler arc as well. There’s also a “tv special” called Heart of gold.
Movie 14 - there’s a couple of filler episodes for this too 895-896, but it’s set to be before episode 890.
Movie 15 - you should definitely watch episode 1029-1030 before this movie, as it very much relates. But the movie would be set after episode 1085
I hope this helps and isn’t a bother 😅
Not a bother at all! Thanks for sharing these, we’re not sure how we’ll handle the earlier movies yet but appreciate this!
@@tobototoki I’d say at least watch those with “prologue episodes” ^^ they are very much worth it
This is covered in manga as a cover story. So they are canon. Buggy in the flesh!!!
Movies are not canon, but sometimes, esp in the later movies, Oda sprinkled it with some canon hints. I think it's safe to watch movies after certain episode to avoid spoilers. I only watched Red and got confused with the timeline, until my brother said to not thinking too much about it and just consider them non-canon. 😅
I saw Red in theaters and just wow 🤯
23:52 lion on edibles be like
you say it Shoo-shoo. Alvida will be explained. It’s funny how buggy grows on you.😂
Like others said, these two episodes are indeed canon, based on the very first cover story "Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles".
I just want to point out that Oda-sensei put Buggy and Gaimon together on purpose. The different perspectives on the same thing is a recurring theme in OnePiece, as you may notice in different occasions down the line.
Also, I love how Buggy's meeting with Luffy set all these things in motion.
Both Buggy and Arlong, originally from the Grand Line, were holed down the East Blue talking of greatness but without actually doing anything to achieve it; like they were hiding and licking their old wounds (He may not look it but Buggy is already 37 years old, and Arlong 39; both seasoned pirates). I won't say more because of spoilers. It's just that I think that people often overlook Buggy and Luffy's influence on him.
Imo, people generally underestimate Buggy because of his character. He's selfish and opportunistic and prone to silly antics. But personally I think that even to this day we haven't seen him fight seriously. I think he may surprise us when the right circumstances arise.
Loving the extra info around Buggy, but I’m praying to Oda that he doesn’t become the final villain 😂😂
31:28 Yeah, I think I have mentioned this before. If you go back to episode 24, towards the end of Zoro's duel with Mihawk his twin swords with black and red hilt broke.
They were Zoro's very first swords, the ones he had used in his last duel with Kuina. In a (very) later episode we find out more about them and how they came to Zoro's possession.
32:50 Ashley was right on the parallel with the Evil Queen from Snow-white and Alvida. Personally, I always found curious how obsessed the Evil Queen was with beauty even though she herself was indeed beautiful (something that didn't apply to Alvida).
Also well done, Ashley, for figuring out that this "new character" is in fact Alvida 👍 Many first time watchers only find out when it is revealed during LogueTown. It's actually played as kind of a mystery: Oda-sensei puts out the hints (like her ship and boat both being heart themed) but does not right out reveal it, only to give us a proper explanation when the time is right.
PS: 34:24 Thank you very much for this ❤
Gonna let Ashley respond to this one but we appreciate you Evelyn!! ❤️
more or less, all movies are seperated from the story, (except the shortcut movies which cut together scenes from the original anime and combine them with new stuff) so basically you can watch them all, but of course just from time to time because otherwise your timeline get crushed and Ashley might get spoiled on later characters. at the current state you just can watch one piece movie 1 and movie 2 if i remenber right, both of the movies last 1 hour each
Concerning filler arcs/episodes, I think it's better to ask people's opinions on each one. There are some great and some not as good, but generally OnePiece's fillers are way better than what you may find in other series (Bleach and Naruto imo).
In the coming arc (LogueTown), there are some episodes that some consider as filler because their content was not included in the manga. In truth, Oda-sensei had them ready as drafts, but because they wanted for the crew to enter the Grand Line by chapter 100, they couldn't include that material in the weekly manga serialisation. In my eyes, this makes it canon.
But even if it wasn't, I would suggest you watch them. One episode is focused on Usopp and the other on Sanji.
Also in LogueTown, there are some scenes that are 100% filler and even collide with what we later see in canon. But, please, don't skip them! They have a wonderful atmosphere and are really good. Just keep in mind that things didn't go exactly like that (it's Smoker's flashback and the scene with Raul the bartender. Dennis may recognise them as filler).
After LogueTown, there's the first filler arc: the "Warship Island" filler arc, episodes 54-61.
The funny thing with this arc is that some things in it are canon. I will point them out when you get there.
People have recommended us to skip full filler eps but to leave in anime canon episodes! So you’ll see us reacting to these episodes coming up 🥰
Totally agree on that ofc ^^
