After many years of development, Shazam has joined the DCEU! Billy Batson gets chosen by a wizard to take on the mantle of Shazam and develops the ability to turn into a full-grown superhero. The movie is a ton of fun, but definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the bullies being absolute psychopaths? Why is the villain so generic? Why was it so easy for Billy’s mom to just abandon him? Why was the Shazam family so good with their powers?!

I was never interested in seeing this movie and listening to what happened is so confusing and ridiculous, that I'm glad I didn't.

Glad someone mentions it, its two different characters. He has a completely different personality as Shazaam. People are so focused on the goofy Shazaam they dont care that there is no attempt to match him to the kid at all.
I just saw it as the super hero persona was a kind of escape for him. Saying Shazam takes him to a different place where he can forget all the sad things in his life and just let go. At least initially. Hopefully he grows from that in future movies

I saw it as escapism. He is still himself, but imagine how good it feels to have powers like that. It has to be liberating. He can literally and figuratively fly away from his problems. The problem is that he really can't.

real bullies aren't much better. I remember some kid got permanent brain damage in my school cause some people randomly decided to beat him up that badly. Made the local news.
The bully in the It remake is the best embodiment of that that I can think of. What the heck was his deal?

The movie tries to play it off like all the bystanders are scared of the bullies and are afraid to snitch, but SERIOUSLY it's not like they're giving someone a wedgie, in some movies they follow their victims home from school and are prepared to murder them! I don't know how old y'all are or where you go to school but I just graduated high school and went to a public school in the South and the bullies on these movies are pretty accurate.
We had 4 or 5 people get sent to prison for murder, in our school parking lot if you parked in someones spot your tires might get slashed or your car damaged in some way, we had a guy beat up a special ed kid in the hall, we had fights in the cafeteria a lot which ended with blood everywhere, we had a girl smack another girl across the face with a lunch tray, and we had someone stab someone else in school. Bullies are psychos now adays.

I feel like any kid, orphan or not, regardless of their personality, would be stoked to have superpowers.
With Shazam, I wanted either Shazaam to essentially be Billy in both forms or become wise and mature when he's older. I watched both versions in the cartoons and like both. I can see both. Since they said the wisdom of Solomon, I would expect the later, but the former works. Having him goofier than his teen counterpart was weird.
To be fair just giving somebody a boat load of wisdom doesn't mean they know how to use it and if anything it really would make you erratic since you don't have the experiences that make that wisdom make sense. Let alone your throwing that on top of a teenager, which is something that is already a mess.

3:20 -- EXACTLY it... lol. I always pre-watch films before showing my kids and I was like, okay, this is going to be awesome for them... then WHOA... WTF!!!!!! People's heads getting eaten off, bodies thrown, melted down to the skeleton, etc. The hell!

Am I the only one who didn't really mind the CGI on the Sins? I think they looked fine.
Some more color variance would've been nice, but I agree otherwise. That uncanny valley look they have gives them an otherworldly vibe that really works for them.
i didnt mind them, but there are those that would dismiss this cgi but complain about the cgi in Justice League
I think they looked great, way better than Doomsday in BvS in fact. Maybe they're worse budget wise, but the designs are SO much better that I don't care about whether it cost more to CGI Doomsday.

Shazam chose Billy as a last resort. He didn't completely trust Billy but needed someone fast. He was searching for at least a few decades.

I had a classmate had a cleft lip. Bullies made fun of him all year round. One time he got pissed and fought back then he got pushed to the ground and the dude that pushed him stomped on his head multiple times. You could hear his head banging in the concrete floor. So yeah it's not that far off

Absolutely superb. I've binged watched loads of these. They're all brilliant but this one is my favourite. I was literally crying with laughter. Keep up the amazing work.
I always stick with the idea that the guy breaking into his lair and stealing the thing kind of made the old shazam have to rush his plan, meaning that he had to choose someone fast. It just so happened that Billy was the next person on his list. Besides, the test involved the thing that was stolen.
Also another comic book villain essentially playing the same role for two DC properties was John Glover, in Smallville he was Lionel Luthor, the asshole dad that never thought highly of his son leading him to become a superhero's counterpart villain and in Shazam he was an asshole dad that never though highly of his son leading him to a become a supervillain...
Seriously. As soon as I saw John Glover, I was like "this kid is definitely the villain."
Mark Strong was also a comic book villain in Kick-Ass :)
