My understanding of Destined Death is that it is the concept of Death as the inevitable, irrefutable, and irreversible end of things; you die and you don't get to come back because you effectively cease to exist in the mortal realm. Marika's goal wasn't to remove Death from the world, but instead to control it so that death was only permanent when she decided it needed to be so, more importantly through controlling Destined Death meant that she could prevent it from being imposed upon her and she would be truly immortal. The complication with this is that although Marika bound the Rune of Death, most things cannot return from death without some force to call them back, which is what Grace is; the lingering power of Marika and the Elden Ring guiding the Tarnished back to the land of the living, and when Grace fades from a Tarnished, their death becomes a semi-permanent thing. And there's another problem; Ranni stealing a fragment of the Rune of Death and using it to forge the Black Knives. The Black Knives individually are able to either inflict Destined Death upon the soul or the body, which is what happened to Godwyn and Ranni during the Night of the Black Knives; Godwyn experienced soul-death and lives on as the soulless, undying, and potentially mindless Prince of Death, constantly perpetuating the Deathroot and through it Those Who Live In Death, i.e. the soulless undead, while Ranni managed to slay her Empyrean body, breaking her connection to the Two Fingers and the Greater Will and allowing her to exist as a being of pure spirit animating a doll. These fragments existing in the world mean that Destined Death is still freed, but only Maliketh and the Tarnished who slays him and claims the Rune of Death can wield it as an absolute and reliably enforceable concept.
Sekiro also made by From Software does some awesome stuff from Japanese myth and history. For example the Corrupted Monk boss was based a warrior monk who became immortal by accident. Her dad and friends found a fish by the river and during the process of cooking it the fish had a human face and spoke. This scared the crap out of everyone so they didn't eat it and decided to toss it away, but for some reason instead of burying it right there the dad took it home to throw it away later, only for his daughter to find it and eat it. They both freak out at first but there were little to no effects and everything was fairly normal. Then decades pass and everyone in her life grew old and died while she stayed the same. While her husband died at 80 she still looked 20. Also the ministry a faction that's mentioned throughout the game and doesn't show up until the end is loosely based of the Tokugawa clan, a real samurai clan that still technically exists.
If i am remembering it correctly, Marika was cursed by the fire giants, and to prevent her from being fully cursed, she split a portion of herself off to contain the curse and that portion became Radegon. Its why he has red hair like the fire giants and he passed it to his children.

The DLC kinda explains how Radogan and Marika are the same person and two different entities at the same time. Miquella on his journey to godhood that mirrors Marikas has to shatter his own being and leave to pieces of himself behind, which you use to follow his steps through the DLC. This is both a physical and spiritual process, and one of the fragments he leaves behind, his love, manifests as a separate entity, the goddess of sleep and dreams that wants to rejoin with the original self to prevent him from attaining the burden of godhood. Just like with Marika, the original represents causality, while the fragment left behind represents regression.
24:33 supposedly, each outer god in elden ring can also be connected to a planet in the solar system. For example, the fell god is Jupiter because of the way his eye is one of jupiters poles. The greater will is outside even that framework.
I love how Elden Ring seems to take place in a world where abstract concepts are made manifest in their own reality, and all interact (or not) as though people or at least non-immaterial.
"we are pawns to be pushed around by cosmic entities" which is why ranni's ending is the best, where you tell all the outer gods to go fuck off and leave the lands to their own devices.
Radagon is essentially the part that follows the Golden Will, and Marika is the part that is defied against the Golden Will after knowing its true self.
1:20 You're close. Most souls games (the exceptions being Bloodborne and Sekiro) are more derivative of Conan The Barbarian which was written by Robert E. Howard, HP Lovecraft's contemporary and penpal. Howard and Lovecraft even included references to each others work in their stories.
50:46 That's a big reason why I love FromSoft games, they aren't just a "difficult boss game" for me, they are a mystery, the mystery of where the hell we are to begin with, exploring the world and what's around every corner, the mystery of the story and piecing it together, even the boss fights are a mystery, what do they do and how do I beat them. In most games a boss is there to be beaten, but in Elden Ring you need to know the boss and its moves to beat it, unless you are a filthy mage(I'm joking)
Sometimes I just wait till Nux changes the thumbnail to watch the video, because if the thumbnail was changed, that means it probably was worth watching
There is a theory that Melina is the daughter of Marika and Radagon as except for Malenia and Miquella they seem to come in sets of three (Godwyn, Mohg and Morgott, Ranni, Radahn and Rykard and then Mallenia and Miquella) That could also explain why she knows so much about Marika and is so invested in you becoming Elden Lord. That's also somewhat substantiated through the collectible butterflies, burning ones, rotting ones and ephemeral ones each supposedly standing for Melina, Malenia and Miquella respectively. Also makes kind of sense because aside from Godwyn, Morgot and Mohg the other sets all have the same first letter in their name which could be explained by the Ohmen Twins having been shunned and locked away beneath Leyndell. I overall like this theory a lot but I don't know if there is any more evidence or if it just sounds nice.
I remember there was a piece of lore that Radagon was a part of the elden ring of which Marika became and she had separated him to help fill in for Godfrey and also be her hand in the world per the greater will but used that to her advantage and plans
15:10 actually azatoth is the creator of the verse if I’m not wrong as the whole verse is just his dream, idk, I just read somewhere something like this.
There is some theory as to why Marika and Radagon seem so different too each other although they are the same being. Could be Miyazakis interpretation of joining of male and female characteristics into one being. Which comes from some occultism. I would recommend watching Max derrats videos on fear and hunger. Where he goes into the philosophy of the games and their occult meanings. I would also recommend watching tarnished archaeologists since he dives into the architectural discoveries and their connections to real world stuff to explain parts of elden ring that never gets mentioned.
10:00 no one ever said that the Golden Order was about Justice, I think that is also a reason Marika may have turned her back on it. Like, what was the point in everything she was doing? It was really ever justified very well.
Remember the last chapter of berserk by kentaro(chapter 364)? In the last panel we see that Griffith is the moonlight boy and in that way i think that marika is radagon.
Miyazaki and Martin: *Create a beautiful world full of near perfect storytelling and amazingly complex characters* Me, The Foul Tarnished: That's a pretty tree. IMMA KILL IT

If anyone sees this don't read it, you will get bored 8:17 Marika also is basically a farm girl who had a dog, greater will said you'll do and that was that, she took away the rune of death because she didn't want to think about her doggo dying, that's canon, it's in the lore 11:08 technically, but the greater will getting the elden ring, is like a divine codex of the world, which is why people can make runes, editing the divine law, flame of frenzy destroys it entirely and ranni (speculation) makes her own divine codex where gods cannot influence the world at all 16:59 he got it boys! mohgs area and caelid are what happens when a outer god manifests more of it's power onto the world, changing it to fit their divine nature, or will or something 19:41 yes! and no, more so they have the ability to channel the divine law, and outer gods try to force them to be that change no matter what, like the flame of frenzy when it inhabits you, or Malenia when from birth the scarlet rot afflicted her, not her choice, or the greater will but the 'rot god' that is trying to gain influence in the 'mortal world'/ elden ring world 20:46 find out in the dlc!/we don't know, yes he does have a doggo, but we never see them so could be dead or otherwise 22:19 yes and it is has cool as it sounds, whereas, the night of the black knives happened because rannis servants stole the rune of death from Malekith (duh), presumably by saying drop it, then left it inscribed in godwyn, it's why their in hiding everywhere, and more importantly working as border police for miquella along with the albanauric archers 23:57 some ashes you take from them upon murder like tricia, which is kind of a bummer, but yeah, very cool explanation for death, it also quite easily explains why you can kill demigods, it also has consequences when something is alive but has no soul/ash to return to the erdtree, like godwyn 25:16 also it destroyed the entirety of the fire giant people, also why she (marika) married godfrey/ hourah loux, who was still hourah loux at the time in exchange for the might of his armies, when she won she actually still kept with him for a while, then they divorced for reasons, and he and his people left, your player character is one of those, now if your a barbarian you probably stayed directly with him, as when he left he got depressed and reverted back to his barbarian form as you can see in the beginning slideshow when you begin the game, as he is shot down by arrows, but then he got a little bit of grace with him, however, as tarnished who coinhabited with normal erdtree denizens you have the option to be apart of a different crowd as of it, like the prisoner or the warrior 26:19 you get a bit of dialogue from Melina from some reason (80% sure she's the gloam eyed queen/another doll of ranni, because of the eye thing) explaining some of her speeches or private dialogue with radagon, because they were seperate, not just her disguising herself like miqualla and st. Trina, or maybe just like Miquella and st. Trina, haven't seen a concrete answer on that 26:57 well no dragons are technically of the golden order, as Godwyn the golden child, fought Fortisaax (or Lanseaax though that might be fortisaax's sister) and fortisaax was so impressed, they just became bros, and because of that the dragons becamwe allied with the golden order/side dragons could turn into human form, for some reason 27:12 WE LOVE RACISM, and political maneuvering, as the flame (which is semi another outer god that is not the flame of frenzy) can burn the erdtree, the fire giant is the last non slave caste of his kind, as he still has the belly that can summon the outer god, it's why the other giants are disembowled. 27:29 for now yes, later raya lucaria itself does a coup against the royal familly, and locked Renalla in the library, and the rest of the 'family' (only ones left are Rykard and ranni ) are hiding inside their manor as a base of operations as she was in her bummer zone at losing the love of her life Radagon, presumably because she gave him a red dog, (he hates the color red) 29:06 yes the fire giants specifically serosh is his therapy cat now 29:31 Fortisaax is also a bro, just not to you, because his soul is corrupted by death 29:52 naw he's even worse, some grandson of a grandson niece of a grandsons nephew 30:12 apparently some plan involving him, or maybe because he was just sad now only going to pub/ bar with his crucible knights, remembering the good old day when he could dismember people, or only giving her (
My own theory about radagon and marica is that it's a similar thing to the npc D and his brother, where they share a soul but have 2 bodies, but in merica and radagons case it's kind of the reverse, 2 souls 1 body.
I'm working on leveling up my build for the DLC that will be a crucible knight build and I named him "Recusant Knight" because to heck with the Golden Order!
For the two people being one thing. It could be that they were always two beings before the shattering and after it the rune of time made it so they were always one? Seeing how the rune of death changed the world on such a drastic scale when removed

50:46
That's a big reason why I love FromSoft games, they aren't just a "difficult boss game" for me, they are a mystery, the mystery of where the hell we are to begin with, exploring the world and what's around every corner, the mystery of the story and piecing it together, even the boss fights are a mystery, what do they do and how do I beat them.
In most games a boss is there to be beaten, but in Elden Ring you need to know the boss and its moves to beat it, unless you are a filthy mage(I'm joking)
Nux should react to Elder Scrolls Lore.
His brain would fry trying to understand that acid trip of a setting
0:46 I was not ready for something I should've expected, every single one? dam laddy how you obtain any levels due to missing a Madien my g?
Sometimes I just wait till Nux changes the thumbnail to watch the video, because if the thumbnail was changed, that means it probably was worth watching
VaatyVidya dark souls 1 prepare to cry series is a must watch
Down the From Software rabbit hole, eh? Vaati's Armored Core Lore when?
Do you mean the 5-hour one!?
lol there’s no way he’s doing that 5 hour video
Look he now needs to do five hours of robot lore
@@isaac5154 I'd say the speedrun one where he was prepping himself before the AC6 was released by going through all the armored core games prior to
15:10 actually azatoth is the creator of the verse if I’m not wrong as the whole verse is just his dream, idk, I just read somewhere something like this.
nuxanor has gone live alerts are going crazy on kick
My god, I can’t believe I never thought about it.
Must do dark souls. Must do dark souls. Must do dark souls.
I recommend Prepare to Cry The frenzied flame it's a masterpiece of a video.
11:30 that’s Melina’s VA BTW.
Nuxalore discovering how well woven and intricate fromsoft lore is, bloodborne will blow his mind
We need Nux diving into Elder Scrolls lore
10:00 no one ever said that the Golden Order was about Justice, I think that is also a reason Marika may have turned her back on it. Like, what was the point in everything she was doing? It was really ever justified very well.
Am I the only one that rewatches nuxes videos?
Remember the last chapter of berserk by kentaro(chapter 364)? In the last panel we see that Griffith is the moonlight boy and in that way i think that marika is radagon.
I'm an Nuxanor vessel...I'm proud
The eyes being a bit far apart is funny
Miyazaki and Martin: *Create a beautiful world full of near perfect storytelling and amazingly complex characters*
Me, The Foul Tarnished: That's a pretty tree. IMMA KILL IT
Day 2 of asking Nux to react to the Middle Earth lore timeline
I imagine Marika created herself alter ego of Radagan who didn't know he was Marika
FOUL TARNISHED embolden by the flame of ambition
Watched all of the ending videos Vaati made and they are ALL incredible.
Though if you want to start with the more...disturbing ones, and fitting of Lovecraft's themes , Frenzy Flame takes the cake, followed by the Dung eater one...
(Though age of stars remains my fav... My boi blaidd 😢 💔)
I just thought of something crazy. The weird lion head boss from the dlc trailer could be Miquella’s shadow.
I came here because of the thumbnail and the lore.🤩
My favorite saying comes from a shrimp vendor in this game
Now Nux is taking the steps I once took…
I'd kill to have Nux watch the whole Prepare to Cry series
If anyone sees this don't read it, you will get bored
8:17 Marika also is basically a farm girl who had a dog, greater will said you'll do and that was that, she took away the rune of death because she didn't want to think about her doggo dying, that's canon, it's in the lore
11:08 technically, but the greater will getting the elden ring, is like a divine codex of the world, which is why people can make runes, editing the divine law, flame of frenzy destroys it entirely and ranni (speculation) makes her own divine codex where gods cannot influence the world at all
16:59 he got it boys! mohgs area and caelid are what happens when a outer god manifests more of it's power onto the world, changing it to fit their divine nature, or will or something
19:41 yes! and no, more so they have the ability to channel the divine law, and outer gods try to force them to be that change no matter what, like the flame of frenzy when it inhabits you, or Malenia when from birth the scarlet rot afflicted her, not her choice, or the greater will but the 'rot god' that is trying to gain influence in the 'mortal world'/ elden ring world
20:46 find out in the dlc!/we don't know, yes he does have a doggo, but we never see them so could be dead or otherwise
22:19 yes and it is has cool as it sounds, whereas, the night of the black knives happened because rannis servants stole the rune of death from Malekith (duh), presumably by saying drop it, then left it inscribed in godwyn, it's why their in hiding everywhere, and more importantly working as border police for miquella along with the albanauric archers
23:57 some ashes you take from them upon murder like tricia, which is kind of a bummer, but yeah, very cool explanation for death, it also quite easily explains why you can kill demigods, it also has consequences when something is alive but has no soul/ash to return to the erdtree, like godwyn
25:16 also it destroyed the entirety of the fire giant people, also why she (marika) married godfrey/ hourah loux, who was still hourah loux at the time in exchange for the might of his armies, when she won she actually still kept with him for a while, then they divorced for reasons, and he and his people left, your player character is one of those, now if your a barbarian you probably stayed directly with him, as when he left he got depressed and reverted back to his barbarian form as you can see in the beginning slideshow when you begin the game, as he is shot down by arrows, but then he got a little bit of grace with him, however, as tarnished who coinhabited with normal erdtree denizens you have the option to be apart of a different crowd as of it, like the prisoner or the warrior
26:19 you get a bit of dialogue from Melina from some reason (80% sure she's the gloam eyed queen/another doll of ranni, because of the eye thing) explaining some of her speeches or private dialogue with radagon, because they were seperate, not just her disguising herself like miqualla and st. Trina, or maybe just like Miquella and st. Trina, haven't seen a concrete answer on that
26:57 well no dragons are technically of the golden order, as Godwyn the golden child, fought Fortisaax (or Lanseaax though that might be fortisaax's sister) and fortisaax was so impressed, they just became bros, and because of that the dragons becamwe allied with the golden order/side dragons could turn into human form, for some reason
27:12 WE LOVE RACISM, and political maneuvering, as the flame (which is semi another outer god that is not the flame of frenzy) can burn the erdtree, the fire giant is the last non slave caste of his kind, as he still has the belly that can summon the outer god, it's why the other giants are disembowled.
27:29 for now yes, later raya lucaria itself does a coup against the royal familly, and locked Renalla in the library, and the rest of the 'family' (only ones left are Rykard and ranni ) are hiding inside their manor as a base of operations as she was in her bummer zone at losing the love of her life Radagon, presumably because she gave him a red dog, (he hates the color red)
29:06 yes the fire giants specifically serosh is his therapy cat now
29:31 Fortisaax is also a bro, just not to you, because his soul is corrupted by death
29:52 naw he's even worse, some grandson of a grandson niece of a grandsons nephew
30:12 apparently some plan involving him, or maybe because he was just sad now only going to pub/ bar with his crucible knights, remembering the good old day when he could dismember people, or only giving her (
I’ll be waiting for the day Nux does a Halo video
Oh man Themis guys videos are like a documentary watch all of them! Particularly the dragons lore
My own theory about radagon and marica is that it's a similar thing to the npc D and his brother, where they share a soul but have 2 bodies, but in merica and radagons case it's kind of the reverse, 2 souls 1 body.
So empyreans are like the Dreamers, chosen to become something more, something greater
This makes me want to give another run at elden ring. Last time I only made it to Goodrich the grafted.
It might be wrong but my head canon was always that Miquella's "shadow" instead of being a wolf, was Malenia.
55 minutes to explain that you’re just some guy who got really drunk, got into tons of bar fights, and somehow became God after bonking the Nessie.
Nessie?! YOU NAMED MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE LOCHNESS MONSTER?!
LETS GOOOOO ELDEN RING LORE BABY WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! 💪🏼💪🏼
I'm working on leveling up my build for the DLC that will be a crucible knight build and I named him "Recusant Knight" because to heck with the Golden Order!
Elden Ring: There's primodial order before the new one defeated and replace it
Me: This sounds like Genshin Impact
2:45 bro this sounds like adventure time lore I'm getting scared man.
Nux: "bro is trying to teach me what the word vassal means! I know what a vassal is!"
Also nux trying to say CHIEFtain: "..sh..shiftan..or whatever.."
For the two people being one thing. It could be that they were always two beings before the shattering and after it the rune of time made it so they were always one? Seeing how the rune of death changed the world on such a drastic scale when removed
I think you should watch all his lore playlist and then Prepare To Cry.
The DLC trailer videos are also great
I cannot wait for Nux to get Dark souls 2 lore and find its plot… Wamen
a theory going around is that she is either Miquella other persona, ranni's twin or even ranni herself. I mean she has her eye covered just like ranni
There’s also a theory from the Japanese side of elden ring lore that you “the tarnished” is one of the bastard children of Merika
