At 3:44 I can move no further as by following this step by step and using the template, it does not load exactly like this video on windows 10, so there are elements missing in this video that may be minor to some people, but not for first timers. please review the video I have as this is what it loads like based on your template and the keyboard you have below those instruments in Kontakt doesn't just pop up and isn't there on default settings. Also I only am getting ST. 1-4, where did you get the other ones from and how do I make them appear on the screen?
This plus your Kontakt template video is exactly what I needed after several hours of frustration and getting exactly nowhere. Now I've got everything working. Many thanks!
Thank you for making this video Jon! I was lost trying to get Kontact to work in a multi instrument set up in Reaper and your template and this video made everything work perfectly. Thanks again!
I noticed that if you want to freeze all instruments to separated audio tracks without affecting your Kontakt routing, select the output tracks for all instruments, and choose "Render tracks to stereo stems." Then you get a new track with just the waveform audio of each separate instrument. That lets you switch off Kontakt, and mix your instruments as if they'd been recorded separately.
I had a similar setup but if I rendered the project as stems, the st.1 would render silence. I never got to understand why that happened so now I'm back to one instrument per instance which is fine for my workflow since I work with a template with dozens of instruments pre-configured, but I always liked the kind of track template setup you showed here. Maybe I'll try it again soon.
Thanks for this new video..have been asking about this recently on the Reaper forums....trying to get my head around it...so this is very helpful..thank you!
at 1:33 newbs get lost as you switch to "Mixer view" which I cannot seem to find a way to do even in View settings. I have been typing it in google and cant figure it out there either because its probably so easy most people know it, but I don't.
Can't move on to track manager without mixer view happening first apparently, it really seems like we (anyone completely new to reaper and recording) need to know the "Mixer View" step that was left out. as without it you can't seem to assign instruments to the tracks. Any help right now would be amazing as I'm doing this in real time.
A question on using this template. Once I have recorded a few bars of an instrument, often times I like to loop it. Using the template I'm confused as to where (on which track) I can copy, say, 4 bars of bass and repeat it?
i need some help. for whatever reason Reaper will not build stereo ouputs for kontakt anymore. it only builds mono channels and its a PITA to go back over each one of the routing boxes for each track individually to make them stereo channels ie. 1|2 and 3|4 instead of 1, 2, 3, etc. this is a new problem i didnt face before my reinstall
Hi ! I have one question: if I need more than 16 different instruments in my Reaper session should I add another instance of Kontakt ? How should I do that without disrupting or messing up my current session ? Thanks a lot for your excelent channel !
Is there a problem with adding Kontakt onto every single track that has a Kontakt MIDI instrument? For example, add new track, click add FX, Add Kontakt, go into Kontakt and pick the library, pick the instrument. And then add a new track and do the same thing again, except with a different instrument?
Hello Jon, Thanks so much for these templates, they are being used on a daily basis. I love your videos. One quick question though, when I load a multi inst Kontakt into reaper and start stacking up the instruments, from the 8th or 9th instrument onwards, it will not allow me to change any parameters. For eg, the studio drummer kit mixer would stay constant and would not move at all, the reverb on the session strings cant be switched on. Can you please help?
The one thing I'm confused about is the actual audio tracks to mix. I setup everything right and I'm getting audio from the instruments. Yet whenever I arm the midi track and record, all that shows up is the recorded midi, no actual wav on the audio output to mix. My thought process was "oh well then duh, I should also arm that track too if I want a wav on that track". But when I did that, there was no signal being recorded on the output track, the wav was just a blank slate. So I was just wondering what I'm doing wrong there.
Thanks so much for creating this Jon! Unfortunately, I just got Kontakt 6, and it seems this latest version only has VST3, which I believe is why the "kontakt' insert from your template is faded out and not working. Replacing that instance with my vst3 version doesn't cut it. Ugh. Any suggestions?
@@TheREAPERBlog I can send you a screenshot, but basically hovering over the "kontakt" in the template shows as "VSTi" (which is a dead link on mine), while mine shows as "VST3i". Ugh. It's a bummer it's acting so fussy. I tried tracking down a VST2 or VST from NI, but no luck. Thanks for getting back to me tho.

is there a reason you didnt mention having to change the channel on the midi track to correspond to what its instrument midi channel is within kontakt???? in order for me to have reapers kontakt midi channel 3 trigger kontakts 3 instrument which has st.3 as output and MIDI Ch (A) 3 i need to make my midi input on the arragnement view midi channel 3 output to midi channel 3 in the input section of the midi track
@@TheREAPERBlog mmm okay, so i have 16 midi channels as i created using your tutorial myself.. I have Keylab 88 mkII set to all on each midi tracks channel input. With this set up i can just arm the individual kontakt library i want to record by arming the track i want to record.. where does your sends thing come into play???
you need a track with Kontakt, and each of the MIDI record tracks needs a MIDI only send to the Kontakt track with corresponding MIDI channel. ie Kontakt MIDI 3 Track sends to kontakt channel 3. this is all set up for you in the free template. You just need to pick instruments and assign input channels inside kontakt
@@TheREAPERBlog i got you.. i just check routing in the kontakt channel with the plugin of kontakt on it and i see how your tutorial of doing it manaully automatically created the sends to all the 16 + 4 aux channels

Anyone having trouble running Kontakt- Djinnbass in Reaper? As soon as I select it for my VST I strum one note and reaper crashes every time. It’s not Kontakt because get good drums works perfectly.
Hi, I have a stupid question.... I tried to use multichannel a few years ago, but very quickly I realized that I always end up swapping one (at least) of the loaded kontakt instruments with another, non kontakt one. So I ow simply load a new kontakt instance on each track, when I need it... I never looked back, I never had issues with CPU or memory , and life is so easy. I am sure there are cases where multichannel is best, but I don't know which ones...
Great video! One question, how do you get the screen to show all aspects of the Kontakt plugin? For example I can’t see the keyboard at the bottom. Not really an issue but it’s driving me nuts that I can’t see the whole screen! Thanks again, love the channel!!🤘🏻
Hi Jon , first of all thanks for all your Reaper videos, they helped me a lot in increasing my reaper knowledge I'd like to ask you one thing , if you could be so kind to have a look at it: I have a NOVATION Launchkey 49 Mk2 keyboard, is there a way to set, for example, slider 1 as Modulation ( CC1) so that I can use it ,especially in Reaper with Kontakt instruments, as expression ( keeping the original modwheel as it is of course , just change the midi cc 41 of the slider to midi cc 1) ? Thanks a lot
Hi Mauro, this is very easily done in REAPER. You'll want to use the JS FX 'MIDI CC Mapper'. This comes default with any installation of reaper I believe. For your case you'll change the source to CC41 and the Target can stay at CC 1. This will of course only affect the track that it is placed on but I am sure there is a REAPER genius who could get this to be a sort of global remap/passthrough sort of thing. This is a solution within REAPER. My Keylab lets me remap sliders on the unit itself and save them as presets so I have one for sound design, SWAM instrument control, and a KONTAKT template. Cheers!

yes, add in another track template for 16 more instruments. That should be it

Not really if you prefer to work that way. I'd still recommend making a template with all your favourite instruments pre-loaded.
