  • In this video I demonstrate how to set up and use Kontakt as a Multi-Output Instrument in Logic Pro X. The standard way of using Kontakt is as a stereo instrument, and while that works great, it can get really heavy for your CPU if you use too many instances. Multi-Output mode allows you to trigger multiple libraries and sounds within a single Kontakt instrument, then route AND control those instruments from different channels in Logic. I explain how all of that works and show how to get it set up. I also share a few other tips that will help improve your Kontakt workflow!

    Very clear. You can save time by first setting up your instruments and then using the batch function to automatically assign each instrument to a different output.

      Whoa batch function? Is that in Kontakt or Logic? Tell me more about that!

      @@woodyardmusicIn Kontakt's Outputs view, click Presets/Batch configuation > Batch functions > Clear output section and create one individual channel for each loaded instrument.

    Thank you, excellent tutorial. I will put it on repeat😊 Could it be possible to have another tutorial with an orchestra library with separate instruments (ex: vln1,2,vla, celli and DB) and with different articulations on the same midi channel? Is it possible without having 100 tracks?

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhh you saved me dude ! Thanks a lot ! I have seen another video on this and it wasn't giving you enough details on the "midi channel" and "output" routing which led to something very strange in my session as the channel I was highligting in logic did not respond to the right channel in kontakt... So thank you so much ! You saved me so much time debugging my session ❤

    Thanks for video , the down side of this method is you won’t be able to freeze track if you wish to.

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  3 місяці тому

      Ah, that’s a good point. I’d be curious if freezing the main track hosting Kontakt will freeze all the auxes. More research is needed

    Hello there. I am about to switch from GarageBand to Logic SOLELY because I want the new Spitfire Orchestra library.
    This will involve buying a new Mac as I guess my old trusty 8GB MacBook won't like this??!!
    This is the first video I have ever watched on the subject. Are you interested in holding my hand please? 😬👍🇬🇧

      Hello! I’d recommend at least 16GB, especially if your computer is older. And sure, I’m happy to answer questions here or if you’d like to discuss it in more detail, email me at info@woodyardmusic.com and we can set up a call!

    Thanks for this. It was really helpful, but is there a way to collapse the tracks down to just one track when not in use. I'm building a large template and I was hoping this would help minimize the total amount of tracks by putting 16 similar items on one Kontakt instance. Kind of like a subfolder in a large track stack.

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  2 місяці тому +1

      You MIGHT be able to nest them in one type of track stack. Because there’s “summing” and “folder” track stacks. I’m pretty sure one can be inside the other, not sure which way though

  • @jazzhotline
    @jazzhotline 4 місяці тому +1

    Very nice but how can we save that ? it seems it’s impossible to save the track stack folder corresponding to kontakt multi, neither as a user patch etc so it’s nice but we need to re do kontakt settings / track on each project

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  4 місяці тому +1

      You may need to save it on each platform. Save the Kontakt multi and the track stack in Logic then load both.
      Another thing you can do, save it in a Logic session, just call it “instruments” or something. Then open the session you want to work in, navigate to the file manager on the right, click “all file”, and locate your “instruments session. This will allow you to pull channels, instruments and aides from your “instruments” session.
      I did a video about this, I’ll try to find it

    I wonder if this could somehow be used to make Kontakt effects route properly in Atmos mode. And I don't know if Kontakt effects can yet be in multi-mono which is I think what Logic effects have to be when in Atmos.

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  4 місяці тому

      I have no clue! Really curious though. Which effects are you referring to specifically?

  • @DADAmusic-yn9ux

    Thanks for the nice tips, but I'm facing some issues, probably bc I'm just a noob. When I do the routing and try to solo a track, I'm actually solo-ing the whole Kontakt istance. I have the same problem with automations: every time I automate the track (volume, pan or whatever) it doesn't work. Appears that I can solo and automate only the main channel (1-2) . Do you know any solution for that? Thanks again for the great video!

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  3 місяці тому

      Hello! In the mixer, did you right click and hit “create tracks” over all the Kontakt auxes? That will make them accessible in your main window for things like automation.

  • @Ansh-vc3rl

    Hey, I am setting up my template for orchestral production and there is a problem i cant find the answer to. When we have multiple channels loaded in 1 instance of Kontakt, With the aux's the audio output is coming out fine, but when i trying to control the dynamics with the mod wheel. It only works on the the instrument channel 1 and not in any of the aux channel which is sending the midi data. Looking forward to your help.

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  2 місяці тому

      That's interesting. Check that the MIDI channels are assigned on the auxes. It does it automatically for me but it might not always do that. Thats the only thing I can think of.

  • @jeffagoddard
    @jeffagoddard 2 місяці тому

    The first midi you record on that Logic track is shared by all the instruments in that multi-rack. Have you tried a method to have multiple midi notes set to different midi channels on the same Logic track? Is that even possible?

    • @woodyardmusic
      @woodyardmusic  2 місяці тому

      The only way I've found for doing this so far is to create the multi-out auxes from Kontakt, hit "control + T" to add those tracks to your main workspace, and then move the midi down to the new tracks, which I think is the method I showed in the video. You may be able to set up some weird routing using Articulation Sets to send different notes out different MIDI channels though.
