My papaw used a trail cam to record is okra overnight once, we sped up teh footage and we watched it grow an inch over night
What a GREAT idea!!!

@@Latebloomershow I grew zucchini last year and I SWEAR it doubled in size overnight...........lol
Here's an interesting fact: Okra is in the Malvacae family. Cotton and Hibiscus are also in that family.
Now that's an odd combo
@@elisabethjones4917agree!
Thanks!!
Just love okra.. I'll be growing it now that I saw how easy it is..
I see what a learning process this has been for you this year.. I'm very proud of what you've accomplished.. well, you and Justin 😊
My plants are 10' 2" tall this morning. I just cut 19 pounds and going to give this method a try. Based on the current supermarket price of $5.99/12 ounces, I cut $151.00 in okra this morning.
My plants are also get that tall and the stems get to be vert thick circumference of over 6". Ppl ger mad at me when I don't pick the okra while it's still small. I tell them I've picked it when it was 6" long and the okra was still good.
@@serenabuckner2874we do the same. I use the extra long ones in soups. They can become very tough and not suitable for frying. The extra extra large we dry out for seeds, decoration for fall and grandkids play with them like musical instruments lol.
Hi Kaye! My favorite is southern fried okra too! You can slice and roll in your cornmeal mix and spread them put on a cookie sheet and freeze, then put in ziplocks in the freezer. They won't stick together and you can take out as much as you need when you are ready to cook them. Thanks for the shout out on your live regarding my mangalitsa pigs!
Love you,

I should have actually done that!
Any recipes for corneal mix? All the breading fell off ours when we went to freeze them. 😢
This is the best, and most convenient way of freezing OKRA. FOR 3 minutes , in oven --- 300 degrees. And then Freeze.
Thank you that was the temperatures and times I needed my okra starting to come on and I’m getting about 3 gallons a day. I use a chamber vacuum sealer, which makes it a little more time-consuming because you’re not supposed to seal warm products so after I take it out of the oven I actually have to let it cool down to at least room temperature. Thank you for your demonstration.
I bought a sealer last year, and since I learn by someone showing me, I never have used it! So you seal then freeze?
I only use natural oils to fry my fresh okra. None of that relabeled motor oil.
What are you referring to, so I can watch out for it? Thx for watching!
Different way of freezing okra. I will do this way----- and compared to the other way I have been freezing okra. To see what is the difference. Will do it tomorrow, in Sha ALLAH. In sha ALLAH, in Pakistani language means GOD WILLING. Nothing wrong with saying in Sha ALLAH. HALLE-LU-JAH. IN-SHA-ALLAH
If any one says in SHA-ALLAH -- GOD WILLING--- is wrong, let me know please---- I will like to check the brain of that individual --- such individual is CUCKOO---BIG CUCKOO---- I WILL BE PSYCHIATRIST of such fucked up individual. In Sha ALLAH. HALLE-LU-JAH.
Thank you for sharing this video
My pleasure
Do you season the okra? Or add salt prior to freezing or wait till you thaw and cook?
In this video, I did not, but, I just froze some a couple days ago and after the 3 minutes in oven, and cooled slightly, I put in a gallon freezer bag with a cup of cornmeal with a dash of salt and closed the bag and tossed them around to completely coat and then spooned them out into quart size bags. I'm anxious to see how they do.
@@Latebloomershow 💚 Thanks!
You have inspired me to get busy and get veggies ready to put into my upright freezer!
I love fried okra, too; from my Southern Alabama roots!
Well, I know my MIL just cut and froze most of her veggies on a tray before bagging. Certain things she did blanche. I googled freezing okra and it said to BLANCHE OKRA, AND i KNOW THAT ain't right............LOL tHAT WOULD BE A SLIMY MESS..........so trying your method today. I got nothing planted this year (wet / cold wet/ freeze), actually too wet and windy for me to mess with. Two hip replacements before 70 so careful where I walk, but think I'm now gonna get some okra seed in the ground cause this supermarket freezer stuff just doesn't cut it anymore. Everything turns to mush or either tough and stringy. Anybody sell anything other than "steamables" these days? They don't hold up to a big stock pot of veggie soup. I cook the heck out of my beef and then start adding peas, etc in accordance to how long it should take to almost cook them. Just picked up a basket of okra from a local farm stand. They only had one left out. It's really just heated up here and humidity kicked in too, I know okra performs well in the heat. It's just me so I don't need a bumper crop. I like it boiled, sauteed and fried. Taught my Grands to eat it the same ways. Yeah, I'm THAT GRANDMA. Try it at least. And I got collards, turnips/greens for a fall crop too. Gonna sew some herbs too. Those I do blanche unless you have a better method? I guess I need to look at my seed packs again............lol
I place the straw in the corner of the nearly close bag and suck the air out, than close. :)
That's what I did, too!
I like the vacuum seal best
Thanks for the tip! It looks easy too. I will store some okra this way. 😎🌱❤
Okra is placed in oven 300 degree fot 3 minutes---- and then put into freezer.
I'm a northerner who loves okra!
I don't fry it but I do roast it with a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper.
I also like it in soups.
Do you roast whole or sliced? Thanks!
Either way, although usually whole.
Btw, I tried your method and absolutely love it! Thank you.
Try Okra. Next season try to steam it. I don’t eat fried things because of my sugar issues. Thanks Kaye.
I loved steamed okra too with southern peas
Great video again! I have been eating it raw, out of the garden.
Today I tried it ony salad which consisted of Tuna salad 1.pickled egg one okra, lettuce, tomatoes and cold cushaw with balsamic vinegar the okra was very good in a salad. It never occured to me that okra might be tasty that way as well
I hope you group these preservation videos together for quick access. Loving it,!
They are I put them in a playlist called food preservation
That is the way my grandma used to cook okra! Rolled in cornmeal and southern fried! It’s the best!
Best! But I have to say that I like it fresh better than from frozen now that I’ve had some of that since last year
Thank you I am going to do my okra this way so I can have in the fall or with some fish frys.
Great video. I grew okra for the second year; this is the first year I've been successful at it. I have so much that I had to search for information on how to freeze it. Your instruction is much more straightforward and easier than I though the process would be! Two questions: Would you recommend shrink wrapping vs just putting in a Ziplock bag? And, how long will frozen okra last in the freezer? Thanks for the instruction.
Is there a difference with the oven method vs flash freeze. The process is the same in each method. Just wondering.
I know you can flash freeze squash but I don’t know about okra
what is flash freezing?
Thank you. Great help today as our okra is still producing!!
And here’s a compliment for you…you are such a pretty woman. Your hair is gorgeous. Wish I could see how you fixed it in the back.
Hm. I'll have to try and remember. I've been asked to do a hair video. But, that requires I clean my bathroom, haha.
I will have to try this! I am hoping my okra keeps producing! I am going to grow more next year, also. I need to start planning my garden for next year. Somethings were not thought out well this year. We had medical issues in our family this spring and I planted the garden just to get it in without much thought about where the best placement would be. I love my garden! Thanks for sharing!
my husband loves okra too. he grew up in the south. i like hearing the stories of your childhood and you grandmother.
The MOTB is coming and you can't slow or stop it.
Creeping Totalitarianism comes via ENGINEERED CONSENT...such as using smart phones debit cards etc
Worry is sin. All for now, thanks for the okra tutorial it's helpful.
Thank you! Too true.
All my university sources, including LSU say to oven-blanch the sliced okra for TWENTY minutes, not 3. I am increasing my okra crop next year here in NM. It LOVES our blast furnace summeers!
Gosh that seems like a long time. But, thanks for the info!
Can we put it in the microwave
I don't own one, so I don't know. I'm sure you can put the question into your search engine though. Thanks for watching!
I have seen people use the microwave before.
This is a great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!!
I love okra any it is one of my favorite things to eat I even like it raw.
Me too!!
Oh my gosh we love okra especially rolled in cornmeal!
That’s the Only way to roll! Haha, Just put two more quarts away yesterday
my dad used to make the best pickled okra, miss him and those days
Amazing video! Thank you this is my first year doing okra!
GREAT!!! Thanks for watching! Welcome to my channel!
You will need a good generator for your freezer if power goes out. It would be a shame to loose it all because of no power.
Done! Installed this week.
@@Latebloomershow do you have a P O box address? I would like to send you morning glory seeds.
This is how I freeze my okra for years
Your video is the first I came across. I am no skilled chef but my plan to is to fry them with some serrano peppers. Probably every 3rd-4th one will be a nice little surprise. Thanks for the tips. God bless
That sounds so good! Are you going to put the pepper in the freezer with the okra? Reminds me I have to pick okra this morning. I missed yesterday.
@@Latebloomershow yes ma’am. I put both in the freezer last night. I did exactly as you said on 300 degrees for 3 minutes.
Your okra looks so good! I do wonder though, by putting the okra in the oven does this stop the mucilage. Some people do not like the 'slime' where other people do like it so it slips down the throat. They think it is a good way for children to enjoy for future meals. What meals did you make with your frozen okra? Good idea about labelling bags.! X L from London, England
Did you let it cool before bagging it and putting it in the freezer
Yes.
Finally an abundance of okra here in Central texas. To the point I need to freeze some. I searched for freeze okra, and guess which video came up first! I've watched it before, but I need the refresher!
Great! My helper today gave me a great tip. Go ahead and cut it and put in a container with some cornmeal and shake it well. Then put that in the freezer bag. I'm going to try it. I harvested probably 8 pounds today, gave half to him.
@@Latebloomershow will do!
Good information
Looks great.
How do you fry them?
Well I use lard if I have it. Not a lot. This past year I actually went ahead and rolled it in cornmeal and froze it that way so it was really easy to just heat up the lard on medium high and I just cook it until it’s barely tender. Keep turning so it doesn’t burn. This is the Southern way.
Would there be any benefit to breading it before freezing? Does it keep fresher by not battering it?
Yes lol it grows like it's on speed! Mine is really producing this year
I used this method to freeze some okra, this past summer. How would you go about using it to fry, now? Seems thawing, breading, frying might lead to soggy, slimy okra. Thanks for the video.
Well, I have to say, nothing is as good as fresh because it's crispy when you first cut it, but, I thawed it out, drained excess water through a strainer and then rolled it in cornmeal. It's not bad. I think this next year, I will do the same but roll it in cornmeal first. Let me know how it comes out!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved it thank you dear one
SUBSCRIBED!
Do you let the okra cool completely before putting it in the freezer?
It was still warm but not steaming.
It was a pleasure chopping with you!
Well, that's wonderful!!
300 C or 300 F?
300 F, sorry.
Thanks
Thank you! I need to do exactly that today! It's been a year and okra is coming in fast. I gave two gallon bags away today as I knew I wouldn't be able to get to it.
Did you save the okra water for your house plants
When I was filming no I forgot but I did later
