Vader, being a grumpy old man, is something I can't blame him for, plus Qui Gon is definitely someone who should be able to talk Darth down from doing the child genocide again.
He was the perfect father the poor chosen one needed, and now he's a nearly 7 ft asthmatic cyborg, compared to the 6 ft 4 Qui Gon.

The fact that Anakin slaughtered younglings without even a direct order to kill those children, and then choked out his pregnant wife and didn't immediately say "what have I done? The Dark Side is wrong!" shows he was an absolute psychopath all along. And that Qui-Gon is right, he is incredibly stupid. Darth Traitor's redemption was always BS. He only killed Emperor Paperplane to save his son, not to be good.
It led to his later carpet selling business, too, having made the carpets from the dead younglings he slaughtered.
