I'm not even spanish and when I saw the map I was like "Wait I minute..." and starting to notice the missing regions or the inaccuracies with borders. Tbh at some point I tought that maybe was set in a precise historical moment and starting at looking at maps of spain during the centuries but nope, it's just a weird looking map. Game still looks enjoyable.
And Portuguese people! They took a huge chunk off northeastern Portugal
If you're used to map tabletop games you know those maps are very wonky 🤣

Great game! I have the german copy so im not sure if the rules are different but i believe youre supposed to select a secret province before you reveal whats in the castillo.
As a spaniard, seeing how you're playing a game based on Spain, i'm gonna be veeeeery into detail into how you pronounce spanish places and terms, and other comments about Spain.
I respect that. As an overly pedantic Scot, I had great fun critiquing Holly's Scottish accent last week. If they ever play Clans of Caledonia I will be sitting with my notebook at the ready.
As a norwegian, i know that englishers will never ever pronounce norwegian words remotely close to correct, so i give up.

An area control game riddled with historical inaccuracies and game pieces mostly consisting of wood or cardboard? That's like, my entire taste in boardgames and it looks great 🥳
So happy you all are doing El Grande. There's been quite a few party games in a row. Which is fine, I'm sure they get engagement. But I personally prefer these quieter, more thinky episodes which highlight how the games work more than the bits.
Don't get me wrong, I love bits. But there's only so much shouting I can take lol.
I'm glad to see you play actual board games rather than party games. Hope you keep working your way to more complex games.

Such a charming little game! Given how well it played with this group, I wonder if they might try Rattus some time down the road-similar area control with some extra twists and little character powers that can be claimed and stolen throughout the game.

The card that scored all first place regions seems absurd. It basically reads if you are currently winning the game, your opponents can no longer win.

With "Offensive" (28:50), do you have to move all from and to the same region? If not, Dom could have taken second place in 5 regions (moving 3 from Toledo and one from Galicia to Sevilla, Granada, Valencia, Cataluna, placing one in Toledo). ~15 points instead of 6, plus 10 from Galicia (well, 4 after someone else moves in).

Caballeros are not pronounced like that. You're saying cabaleros instead. Ll in spanish is close to the g or y sound, as the initial sound in "general" or "you".
You use ll correctly later, when you mention "castillo" around 5:00.

Just started the episode but I am really wondering what was considered to make this a 4 player playthrough? Isn't El Grande considered best at 5? Odd choice, unless someone called in sick. If so, I vote that person scrubs the toilet next time

I like that occasionally someone says they dont particularly like the game...not all games are going to be liked. Imo the game needs streamlining
I would remove the court and province divide as that hardly comes into play...im also not seeing why they had 13 bid cards...not really sure the hidden movement thing is even necessary...would also get rid of some of the cards

not a fan of resource games. theres too many of them and they get repetitive. I like more risk involved where the boardgame can defeat you and you can have multiple chances of surviving the game as a group objective. like horrified and betrayal. or the forbidden island, nemisis and dessert games. those games need to be showcased more. I suggest the DOOM boardgame.
I am a fan of resource games. I like the way it introduced constraints, and then the players have to work within the constraints to try take control of the game. I also feel this game has plenty of risk. You can bet big on a region, only for another player to swoop in with a power that completely undoes your bet. It's very dramatic.
I suggest Hansa Teutonica. It's just as interactive as this, with the added bonus of making the people who get screwed more powerful.
