TUITION: $12,000 per photographer, travel not included. I'll need to sell a Leica or two :)
to be fair with a million subs in a standard distribushion of clients budgets within his reach - that price is viable. Good for him. Sad for us:)
@@bananaear23 Totally agree. The size and destination and group leadership is PERFECT. I ran to the page to sign up... but 3x too rich for my blood.
Recommend standing out the front of Shinjuku station and timelapsing the 3 million people a day that go through there.
I completely get the cost of something like this as I've attended similar things in the past, but 12,000 is wild even for this. There have been several similar things in the past few years in various countries for similar lengths of time for quite literally half the price. Happy for those that are wealthy enough for this, though. Looks awesome.
I don’t mean this with any disrespect, but I promise that you haven’t attended anything similar to this. We’ve spent 6 months working on something that’s an extraordinary experience that you won’t find somewhere else. This is not a photo walk, we’re not doing postcard photos - this is a cultural experience that includes quite a bit. I know the price is not for everyone. This is why I offer workshops at all price points during the year. We’ve done several zine workshops and our New York workshop with Ralph Gibson this year which were much more affordable. Hotels and meals on the agenda are included - this is as reasonable as we could get this - I promise you it’s not “wild” for 11 days in Japan in a small group with an actual teaching and shooting experience.
Would Love this workshop one of those trips which never happens for me anyway. But will wish you a Great trip 🖖
This is awesome! I’d love to attend but I’ll be in Panama in December😢. I can’t wait to see footage and the photographs from this trip!
I'm watching your channel from Osaka, where I live and run a humble café. So hopefully one of your next photo trip destination will be the city of crab and takoyaki. Enjoy Japan! As you said, it has such a unique aesthetic that is so inspiring.
Any help or support you need in Tokyo let me know, living here happy to help if I can just shake your hand and take a selfie together
Arashiyama it's a charming city! The same to me, it changed my approach of photography since I made the first trip in Japan.
Dang, wish I could join just 1 of those days... I live in Japan, so no need for transportation fee. But, dang...
Great trip. Going to Japan for the last 2 weeks of November... you never mentioned that this is fall colors time... prepare for a huge crowd :)
I figured maybe 2/3rds of the way through the video this would be about 10K, so 12K not unreasonable.
Stopped into David's gallery on a trip to Wyoming back in 2018 and had the luck to catch him when he wasn't too busy. Aside from the gallery having astonishingly beautiful art, David is fabulous person and took 30 minutes of his time to just talk shop and the creative process with me. So happy you're able to collaborate like this.
Kyōto residents will tell you it’s still the capital… 😂
LOL, yup they'd say that Tokyo is just temporary.
What a wonderful trip this will be! I’ve done a few workshops in Europe and California, where I live. There are many opportunities to choose from, with great photographers as instructors. But costs are creeping up, and I’m afraid I can no longer afford them. This workshop will be amazing for those who can afford it.
I love this channel, and have no doubt you’ll do Japan (which I visited very briefly at the end of the Seventies) justice. It all looks awesome, and I dearly wish I could be on that list. But I’m retired and on a fixed income. If I ever drop that kind of money on a workshop, it will be in Antarctica.
Hopefully you will make a video for us about those Japanese principles to apply to our photography.
I can't afford the cost of that trip, but I sure would love to be a fly on the wall to hear/watch your pre-trip sessions.
Was stationed in Japan. It is magical.
I need to win in a lottery… tomorrow 😂
Oh wow Ted Forbes what a fantastic opportunity! At first 10 spots sounded small but then once you mentioned all it includes in oder to be a one on one expereince it had to be this small. Much success to you and everyone who gets to go!
Lovely trip. Great time to go, there (in theory) should be less tourists at the big sites in Kyoto and Nara (Which are overwhelming for photograhers). Sounds like you've lined up some rare experiences for photographers..... definitely some things I've found hard to capture in the past 22 years of travelling there. The price may be a lot, but it's not unreasonable.... most of my "random wandering" photography trips to Kyoto and Tokyo cost in excess of $5,000-$7,000 all-in, and that's staying at business-class (small budget) hotels, and having no set photography sessions, and definitely not with maiko, and no official instruction and feedback. Would highly consider it myself if I wasn't already booked for a photo trip at that time. Enjoy the trip Ted! -G
Looks like an amazing experience!
I went to Japan for the first time in early june this year as a bday present to myself. Took so many photographs
Everyone is going to Japan lately
It's a BEAUTIFUL country/culture, and if you are from the US the dollar goes far, for now, due to the US dollar/Japanese Yen conversion.
because western is obsolet, Asia is the new empire
@@IsaacNYC212 yeah I know, my favorite book at the moment is “The beauty of everyday things” by Yanagi Soetsu
I think you'll be traveling up to Tokyo from Kyoto, Ted :))
Glad I’m not the only one who picked up on that. 😂
Kyoto’s elevation is 971 meters, Tokyo’s highest elevation is about 37, so you tell me ;-)
All trains heading to Tokyo are "上り" (going up). Yeah, I nerd out, though I did have to double check with the missus to make sure I remembered correctly. 😅
Wish I were a rich man.
you are rich but not with money, with heart.
It's great...Happ journey sir
Would love to attend. Not happening but sounds awesome and all the best with this amazing experience.
Welcome!!!! She you soon in Japan!!!!
Other than I would have to take out a second mortgage to pay for this.. it looks incredible!!
AWESOME!
Damn! I am already committed for much of December 2024. Please put me on any email list you may assemble for a similar gig in 2025. [I rejoined.] Doing Paris with H.B. in October. I'll be in the South Pacific in December. Be well.
I’ll see you at some point Ed! Have a wonderful time in Paris and the South Pacific!
Sounds like an amazing trip. David is simply an extraordinary photographer and a super nice person as well.
Awesome, and worth every penny I'm sure. This seems really beautifully and thoughtfully put together.
But this sounds fun!!
Enjoy!
I was thinking it was a book 😞
God I am so jealous
