Hey have you ever heard of the movie FREAKED? Probably not, since it only played in a few theaters and made less that $30,000 of its $12 million dollar budget. Don't worry, because James, Justin, Kieran, and Tony from Hack The Movies watched it and are ready to tell you all about this forgotten Alex Winter hidden classic.

Cinemassacre review Demons (1985). Trust me.
I'd love to see you guys review The Last Star Fighter...
I would love to see James review Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
Review J Belushi and D Akroyd movie Niegbhors
I also had that THIS is the movie! Reaction! I had part of this on a tape and had no idea what it was. I also forgot all about Weekly World News!
Useless movie knowledge: Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert cameo in Freaked as the cops in the television show “Crooked Cops” that Randy Quaid’s character is watching when he hears the styrofoam cup fall to the ground.
"Styrofoam cup....Bad for the environment."
How did I not know that😖
Really?
Cinemassacre is now one of my favorite channels on UA-cam, I mean:
It’s original,
Classic,
And other.
Cinemassacare is Dark Souls of youtube ))
jokes aside, CMSCR is kinda much more than "youtuber(s)", I was watching James before I knew youtube..
and I reall, really love new guys!! they are so awesome..
I was often visiting the website way before UA-cam. The AVGN reviews, Monster Madness and You Know What's Bullshit... so much to enjoy !
Wow, it's other too?
@@Sixstringman Most "UA-camrs" are the worst. James is like one of ten people i actually enjoy watching.
@@PersonaSlates James is one of the OG UA-camrs and hes always been great.
it's like pee-wee herman meets the toxic avenger! classic!
I know right! Like, how is this movie not made by Troma Films? 😅😅😅😅
Accurate description
Now thats what I call a perfect critique, bravo brov
I remember seeing this on HBO waaaaaay back and my friend recording on VHS. We would watch it every time I slept over at his house. Nostalgia overload!
YES! My mom, my siblings and I are proud members of the Freaked cult. We love this movie. It deserves more awareness, recognition and love than it gets.
As a kid I would always watch this on Cinemax. None of my friends ever knew about this movie.
Same here.
You guys really didn't know what Cinemax was for did you?
Double Yikes we all know what the late nights were for
This movie was on Showtime, not Cinemax. Cinemax was just for Red show diaries....
Jaydogg222 this was definitely on Cinemax
Are you kidding me?
Me and my brothers are card carrying Freaked cultists.
I think we should make a band called Jerkoff Gumby.
I third
Fourth! Make it real!
Awesome! I thought I was the only person on the planet who knew about this movie, loved it as a kid 😃
Same
Same here, I forgot about it completely until this popped up and now I wonder where my vhs copy went.
Me too!
Not alone my friend. I seen this movie as a child myself.❤
Same, I thought it was a fever dream, lol
I remember this movie. Me and my friends loved it as a kid.
"You like cheese? You like being a man? Then you'll love Ma-Cheeze-Mo!"
I immediately watched this movie after your discussion. It's SO ridiculous! I LOVED IT! I'm REALLY glad you guys featured this movie.
We're can I stream it
Twelve milkmen IS theoretically possible. Thirteen is silly.
"I just laid a turd that's the spitting image of Kim Basinger."
"Boy, if I had a dime for every time I heard that!"
I CAN'T BELIEVE ANYONE ELSE REMEMBERS THIS MOVIE! I saw it once when i was 7 yrs old & it stuck in my brain. Everybody thought i was crazy. Thank you @Cinemassacre for proving me right! Keep up the good work.
Me too about the same age 6 or 7
Finally someone is talking about this werid masterpiece!
Also checkout Redlettermedia’s review
Cinema for cynics did a fantastic riff track to it on youtube.
Henry Rollins did the opening credits song, which is very AWESOME
An outhouse that is larger on the inside.... You can call it a TURDIS. I'll see myself out...
Holy crap! I remember watching this so many times when I was a kid. I thought I was the only one.
You guys are hitting it out the park with these reviews. I thought I was the only person who had ever seen this movie because everyone I’ve ever spoken has no idea what Freaked is or about.
slimejello completely agree. This movie is so hidden. Outrageous.
give them no credit. they have never seen this movie before. so they just watch movies for the sake of doing a review on them.
I watched this on Cinemax in the mid-90s. I loved it then, and still do now :)
I’m from Scotland and I swear my uncle had this on dvd. Watched it when I was about 10 and I couldn’t wrap my head around why it was so good. The style, the pacing of the jokes, the characters.. it’s such an unloved masterpiece!!
WHAT ?!KEANU REEVES WAS DOGBOY 😱.. I NEVER KNEW! ALL THESE YRS!.. AND now it makes so much sense to bring Alex Winter's friend into the film..
Totally part of the Freaked cult. This movie is a gem!
but have you seen all 3 of them?
One of my favorite movies ever!
I agree!
No, I have not seen all three.
My favorite gag in this film is the “I’m glad we weren’t on that plane.” joke.
Yukendoit It's fucking great!
Simpsons later reused it.
@@bergfruehling thought of the same. i wonder if that was an obscure reference.
Such a grossly underrated movie, hopefully more people go watch it after this.
Awesome movie!!
Don't be a dingus and watch the movie you dringle
Dan pantzig, I'm guessing you liked my reply
Not enough farm fresh eggs. This flilm is for hunks, ya drangus.
nope. never underrated. not even hardly known of.
it is a shitty movie.
troma films are better. much better.
Near the end when they go 'full monster' mode, they really remind me of illustration styles on album covers in the 90s like butthole surfers and white zombie and hell even rat-fink drawings
Butthole surfers did music for this movie
I remember watching this on HBO and always trying to record it on my broken VHS. I loved this movie but my friends weren't into it...thank for reviewing!
For years I SWORE that I just hallucinated this movie.
You had MY hallucination!
That's a hell of a drug.
Same here
Same here
Adam McLeod Me too! Been searching for it for years just to prove it and now I don’t feel so crazy!
This was definitely a weird film but it had some funny parts. Also 0:38 executive producer fred Fuchs lol
Please review 'The Frighteners' by Michael J. Fox.
Love that F ing movie
Great film
You mean starring M J F 😏
That's by Peter Jacksonn
Cinemassacre gets sponsorships right. I actually like to sit through and watch them.
They're no Internet Historian, but they're at least having fun with it.
8:25 Actually, Kieran, I did notice that when they were dressed as milkmen, one of them was holding the hammer which was also wearing a tiny milkman costume. I didn't notice it again after that though.
Edit: It's Mr. T holding it at 19:08.
To me Mr. T holding the milkman-hammer is the funniest and most understated joke in the whole movie.
I love that lame ass intro.. reminds me of the beginning of the full house and Urkel board James! And happy to see Carl Winslow is part of the Cinemassacre Rental Reviews team.
Uh he's still alive
I die at the "right next to caldors" part😂🤣💀
Lobo Neiner Ohhh, glad to hear he’s still alive 😄
Carl of Duty
Ehhh, feel the intro is a little dated.
Dear Cinemassacer, this new series "Rental reviews" is awesome ! ...if it's too difficult to produce angry video game nerd vids on the regular, im almost as happy to except this great nostalgic movie series as a consolation prize.
James is one hundred times more watchable when he's just being himself in this. AVGN is just a character and you can tell. It's just him overacting on purpose. I can see it being entertaining to a prepubescent boy. This however can be enjoyed by all age groups.
When the dog man scratches his ear with his 'own' foot.
The “mutated” hammer does make another appearance during the big musical freak montage scene where Rosie the pinhead is hammering something before they reveal she’s hammering a nail through her own hand. Classic
Also the hammer is dressed as a milkman being held by mr T in the milkman scene
I watch you guys every saturday when I wake up like saturday morning cartoons. I do a little dance in my chair when I hear your intro and im not proud of it. I loveee this
Thanks for doing a video on this movie. Nicely obscure and certainly weird.
I haven't seen this movie in decades!
@@funkyweapon1981 Same. Two, to be precise!
You guys gotta do “They Live”
oh come on, you think they dont know that movie? the most famous line ever came from that movie. "i'm here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and i'm allll outta gum."
+The Gaming Paladin
His comment wasn't "You guys should check out a movie called 'They Live'. I think you might like it." It was "You guys gotta do 'They Live'.", which approximately means: "Hey guys, you like to review movies from your childhood that are awesome/cheesy, and you guys are presumably familiar with 'They Live', which certainly fits that description, so that seems like a natural choice, and I haven't seen you review it before, so I'd like to see you review that one."
That would be a good one.
@SN A Same here, but change 08 to like 2009-10. I always thought that quote came from Duke Nukem, lol.
Batpool Metallicdeadbat Agree
Nice to see Fred Fuchs is still making a living.
Who's this fox guy? 😉
I wonder if the guy knows about AVGN making him a running joke.
@@humansvd3269 yeah. But his name is Fuchs not fucks
@@fabiank4396 I'm aware.
It used to be on Comedy Central back in the day, that cruel quick cut stop motion is the best
"I plan on getting 6 pack abs by 2020"
Well there's a plan that failed miserably lol
I remember watching this on HBO when I was younger. It’s been one of my favorite weird films for me. This has so many era related jokes that if you didn’t grow up on loony toons cartoons you’ll miss a lot of the hidden jokes.
Can you do Stay Tuned next?
viralshadow seconded
I loved that movie!
viralshadow There’s a copy of that on sale right now for over $700 lol
Yes. I remember that
Stayed tuned was the onky movie trailer (movie trailers used to play before the main feature) the audience gave a crazy standing ovation after seeing the stay tuned trailer. I've never seen anything like that response before.
TFW you finally get Mackauley Culkin to leave your basement...
“This is the movie!” Haha I said the same exact thing. I’ve asked people for years if they’d ever seen or heard of this film but it’s SO hard to even describe!
Bit if a shame you mentioned the outcome of the silhouette gag at the end. I saw this movie around 5 years ago. Utter madness!
I laughed all the way through, but it was that end shot that made me fall in love with it.
There are some gags in Freaked that remind me of some of the funniest gags of the golden ages of the Simpsons and that silhouette gag is one of them. Another one is the fate of the poor hammer.
Skill share needs a course in creating freakshows and making antidotes using macaroons.
@ex-PFC Wintergreen. I guess you stay a worm lol.
The guy next to James reminds me of craig from Malcolm in the middle
Oh shit I see it too
U mean thats not the same guy?
Derek Moore well they had Culkin last week so wouldn’t be outa the ordinary lol
@@claw333 nah i legit have always thought that was him.
That actor is like 60 years old lmao
This movie was so out of this world, I remember it being my brothers favorite movie and it was so bizarre and cool. We loved the special effects so much and it was one of Bill S Preston Esquires movies, couldn't resist it haha
I'm sooo happy you're reviewing this. It's one of my favorites from childhood and it's so damn obscure.
Thanks for talking about this movie, I NEVER see anyone even mention this flick! It's a good one for sure
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: FRED FUCHS!!!
i know.. i'm shocked too
"There is lot of things in this movie you couldn't do nowdays"
Got my attention there. Sounds like good comedy.
Remember this on cable back in the Summer in the 90s
My favorite part of this film is the Woody Woodpecker and Three Stooges sound effects thrown in as he's driving through the backwoods.
Thanks so much for pointing out this forgotten gem, had to find this after your review and I absolutely loved it.
8:28 the hammer does come back in the milk man scene, you don't really notice it until you've seen this movie at least 3-4 times. 19:10 (look in Mr. T's hand)
Agent Orange I came to the comment section to point that out. 😁
It's even dressed as a milkman, too!
"I don't understand Randy's Quaid's purpose". That about sums it up.
'Freaked' is a gonzo absurdist masterpiece! Alex Winter grew up in London and you can see that Monty Python style of manic absurdism in his work. Even his "Granny S. Preston, Esquire" bit in 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey' had a hint of that.
Hey fellas! I'm loving seeing the whole squad more. Keep up the great content!
Saw this after watching your review, can't believe I overlooked this movie!? SO COOL!!
Saw this when i was a kid. It was shown on starz or something, on at 3 in the afternoon. I couldn't look away.
john smith yep hbo
Same I remember the toxic waste creatures and nothing else.
Rental Review for Joe's Apartment, please!
Is that the one with the talking Roaches?
I saw this a while back on UA-cam and I was so confused but I laughed so much I legit thought no one else had seen this except like 5 other people
Marlfoxmokkan bro I seen this movie on UA-cam a couple months ago I gave up halfway through tho movie was to corny for me
Making 6..
I'll saw from 90's.. 🤣
I remember when this movie was released on Netflix back when Netflix was only on disc form, and I remember watching it when I was like eight or nine and it being like one of my favorite films because it was so different and messed up beyond belief that it's stood out from the other films I watch that one time, so this movie has a very special place in my heart, and I'm glad that you guys talked about it.
Reminds me of UHF. I love weird movies.
UHF is a masterpiece compared to this mess.
@@28Pluto are you implying UHF wasn't already a masterpiece
@@jessedanger8788 It's kind of a weird dry ironic sense of humour, it definitely wouldn't be funny to everyone but almost every joke cracks me up without fail every time
The 1999 _House on Haunted Hill_ remake has similar opening credits.
Later Clubs were designed to avoid the vulnerability of cutting the steering wheel.
Primus had the best clay animation music videos IMO! great video this is my new fav series
So glad you guys are reviewing this!!! For several years I couldn't even remember what it was called lol..
Stoked you guys picked this movie, didn't think anyone else saw this one. Super nostalgic!
I watched this thing as a kid more times than I can count
Please review Howard the Duck next!
howard the duck???
burn all copies.
I want to see Better Off Dead (1985) with John Cusak on Rental Reviews!!!
Holy shit. I watched this movie when I was a kid and have been trying to find it again for years. Thank you so much for your content, keep up the good work :)
I’m super late to this, but I love that yall are doing some of these movies that I loved and NONE of my friends ever knew about. The is still a great, goofy movie. And I found it at a mom and pops video store way back in the early 90s. Thanks guys.
Freaked is such an amazingly unique film, there's absolutely nothing like it still to this day.
Screaming Mad George's work in Society was over the top.
Anyone else Freaked to hear that Tony is under 30?
Yeah, and that Kieran is older than him.
Lol, couldn't believe it, either
Does any body know how old he is ?
@@shawnhendrix8671 It's GOTTA be 29...
You mean Tony from Hack the Movies?
2pac is in "Nothing but Trouble"
SO HAPPY to finally be sure I didn't make this movie up in my head.
Dudes yes! I love this movie. Randy Quaid and Alex Winter at their best! I used to watch this movie in the middle of the day on HBO during summer breaks from school! Thanks for this review. I thought I was the only one to remember this movie.
I've been waiting for you guys to talk about this movie. Freaked was great.
Ahhhh... I remember watching this as a kid! crazy carzy movie
I can't believe you guys left out the gag of breaking the Emergency glass which reads "Break In Case of Backstabbing Corporate Greaseballs" which is a hose that sprays Zygrot24 turning the entire board of EES (Everything Except Shoes) into a giant shoe 😂🤣. And the Randy Quaid spiriting Ed Sullivan with "That's a really big shew..."
I can still here the way the cow guy in my head " Find a special place in your heart your heart your heart " 💀
Holy Repressed Memories, I've seen this movie as a kid :O
Speaking of repressed memories, my parents actually did have the club, and I forgot ALL about that!
I was lucky enough to sort of follow the production of this movie. Around 92-93, I would see little blurbs and articles about Tom Stern and Alex Winter (I was a fan of their Idiot Box show) and the Butthole Surfers working on this movie. (Gibby Haynes ends up appearing in the movie) Specifically in SPIN Magazine. I even remember one of the articles showing a screenshot of Keanu as the Dog Boy. I wasn't able to catch the movie till a couple years later on Cinemax or HBO. I've seen it a few times more recently and it still holds up. Hilarious movie.
Alex Winter also directed some pretty creative music videos back in the 90's (Helmet's Wilma's Rainbow comes to mind) and he does documentaries now. He was supposed to direct a remake of The Gate as well, but I haven't heard anything.
He's also going to be in the new Bill & Ted movie that's supposedly coming out this year. IIRC, it's basically completely done, but the release might've been delayed because of the current situation. Like what's happening to a lot of the new movies this year. The new "Top Gun" which was supposed to be out in July and what was one of the big summer movies, has now been postponed until Dec!
Aww dude this film is a guilty pleasure of mine. It scared the crap out of me as a kid.
Don't feel guilty this movie stupid fun.
I watched this as a kid and loved it lol.. forgot the name until now!! Thank you for the rediscovery!
James saying “Dog boy” while being perfectly synced to Keanu’s mouth is a true testament to the channel’s editor
I've actually seen this on tv... it's been a while though I was a kid at the time....
That's how I remember it, on Cinemax in the mid 90s.
Omg i loved this movie as a kid it was so goddamn weird... I actually found it on youtube a few months back and rewatched even weirder now as an adult
Same situation with me.nobody was talking about it then I see this tonight hahaha
This movie was fun and cool that Alex Winter got Keanu Reeves in it too!
It also has one of the greatest musical credits, the Butthole Surfers.
Hermanos!!
A2Z83 Where’s your question mark?
This was one of my favorite movies growing up! Thanks for reviewing this one!
8:27 the hammer re-appears when Mr. T. holds it during the milkman scene. It's also dressed like a milkman!
Freaked is awesome. Nothing but trouble is awesome. Toxic Avenger 4 is awesome.
Toxic Avenger 4 is my favorite movie of all time. Freaked is 2nd. I love this movie.
Noseblood
I agree dreamcast!
Toxic Avenger is God!
Fred Fuchs lmao. Its as funny now as it was, what, 10 years ago?
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!! I love this movie! I'm glad someone finally acknowledged it!
I’m so happy you guys are reviewing this movie! I remember watching it as a kid on TV and video taping it off the screen. I think I watched on Sci-fi (SYFY)? This video is a stroll down memory lane.
Thank you so much for talking about this movie! I saw this movie as a kid and all I could remember was the sock head guy. It would drive me nuts when it would pop up in my head
