      That's not a fair comparison. Measure of a Man is the greatest episode of Trek in the IP. How is ANYONE going to not want to talk about that instead?

    • @benlittle5436
      @benlittle5436 4 роки тому +47

      beeilve honestly that’s something I hate about Picard so much.
      It taints an episode THAT good. Measure of a man made me cry at the end as after all of it Data himself comforts Riker, understanding he had to do a job essentially attacking Data’s own sentience, to ensure that Data was treated as a being and not a machine.

      @@jfgibson73 I haven't seen the movie and was mostly listening to this video from the other room, but if I understand right, the hammer was being established in that joke as not just a hammer but actually one of the freaks, in that it had been transformed by Randy Quaid and had originally been a wrench? And the hammer is supposed to be somehow telling the other freaks about this, because they are all explaining their origins to one another in that scene, and the other freaks act super sad about the hammer's story as if they all perceive it to be deeply tragic. And their reaction is also supposed to make you laugh - that part is kinda corny I think. But the initial joke is really strong.

    So I just watched this again in full last night for the first time in a very long time. And I still love it, and it’s what led me to this review because I wanted to see what I could find nowadays on UA-cam regarding Freaked.
    But I want to say, when this came out, I must be one of the few people in the world who has seen this movie in a theater. TWICE.
    In ‘93 it actually did get a brief release at the Village East Cinemas in NYC. I was at least 16, and I and a buddy of mine knew about this movie’s existence because of an episode of the E! series Behind the Scenes (which can be found here on UA-cam) that featured it under the original name. We were also fans of The Idiot Box and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, so when we saw it was getting a release under the name “Freaked” we immediately went to see it. I’m pretty sure we were two of the four or five people in the cinema that day. And we loved it! So much that the following weekend we told other buddies of ours that they had to see this movie immediately. Again, second showing, we were the only loonies in the theater.
    So it DID indeed get a release (of sorts) in A theater or two.
    And you know, I’d like to think somewhere out in the Multiverse, in an alternate timeline, this movie got the major release it deserved, and was enough of a hit it spawned an animated series on MTV, perhaps some comics, and most definitely, an action figure line produced by Playmates.

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 4 роки тому

      @Steven Keck if only they had a RATM song too, cos Tom Morello was in Voyager.
      Seems like star trek more than any other series has all these weird cameos. The Rock was in Voyager too, giving a rock bottom to Seven of Nine and then raising his eyebrow, while dressed as an alien, and this was before he was an actor, I think it was his very first role actually. The Big Show was also in Enterprise. And he's an actor, but I always found it really bizzare when George Costanza showed up in Voyager too. Cos he also had all this alien make up on, but all I could see was Costanza.
      I almost think getting Jeffrey Combs in began as just a cameo. Like "let's make all the nerds happy by bringing in the Re-Animator guy" ans then he turned out to be so good that they just kept him on to play about 5 different characters in one show, even at one point his main character being killed off, and then a _clone_ of him being introduced, just so they could keep Combs acting on the show.
      For another musician cameos, Mick Fleetwood, of Fleetwood Mac, was in Star Trek too. On TNG.
      Oh another good one was when Kelsey Grammer showed up on TNG. On the "groundhog day" episode that actually came out years before Groundhog Day came out, and I'm pretty sure invented the whole concept that Groundhog Day and then later X-Files and probably a bunch of other shows copied.
