  • Meet the Csikos, the traditional herdsman of Hungary and explore one of Budapest's best-kept secrets with us.
    We start off in Budapest, the capital of Hungary where we meet two zero-waste advocates and explore Bosnyak Ter, a sprawling suburban market hidden away on the fringes of the city. Here we discover how local produce shopping can lessen our negative impact on the environment, whilst learning how using zero waste methods of purchasing and getting to know your weekly suppliers on friendly terms can really bolster your shopping experience on a personal and global scale.
    As we say goodbye to our friends Dora and Edvárd, we drive in to the city centre and set about a whirlwind tour of the sights before stopping for a drink at the famous Szimpla Kert- the most famous ruin bar in the city.
    After we've exhausted the city, it's time to head to the East of the Hungary to Hortobagy National Park - a whole world apart from the bustling capital - where we meet with Adam and Dóri. Adam is a traditional horse-mounted herdsman along with his father, a profession that has run through his family for generations.
    Here we learn about the work of the Mata Stud Farm, the lineage of Hungarian livestock, and the work of the csikós before joining Adam and Dóri for a traditionally-prepared meal.
    The next day we experience one of the most important days in the calendar of Hortobagy- Szent Dömötör day before retreating once more to the farm for a celebration.
    Join us as we delve deep into two sides of Hungarian culture and explore this beautiful country with us. We hope you enjoy and as usual, let us know what you think in the comments.

    A little about us...
    We’re Lucy and Ben, two photographers from Cornwall, UK who’ve been living and travelling in our self-converted LDV Convoy camper van for the best part of four years. We’ve travelled all across Europe from West to East documenting our encounters with the people we meet as well as our own travels and adventures. We embrace the ethos of slow travel and minimal living, generally spending between 2 and 8 weeks in each country, getting to know each culture, cuisine and people as though we were locals ourselves as well as hiking, wild swimming and camping as we go.
    We are currently on our third 7 month long road trip, travelling through the Balkans for the second time beginning in the French Alps and venturing as far East as Turkey, visiting 13 countries in between.
    Our plan was simple: visit every country in Europe in our rusty tin can of a van. So far we’ve made it to 28 countries, travelling as far West as Portugal and as far East as Ukraine, having all sorts of crazy adventures in between.
    Our main motivation for our travels is to capture photos and create documentary projects, so our van is primarily a vessel for our photography. We tend to focus on topics such as nomadism, traditional ways of life, the effects of recent political events and the difficulties of living in remote rural areas as well as documenting our own adventures and lifestyle on our various social channels.
    We’ve had so many memorable experiences on our travels, and our photo documentary projects have given us an intimate insight into the lives of many different people and brought us together as friends.
    We've visited the folk living in one of the most remote corners of Europe in the Albanian Alps, experienced the culture and traditions of the horsemen in the Hortóbagy National Park, and experienced life with Roma gypsies in their village in Romania, and there's still so much more to explore...

    Another cracking film, you are certainly raising the standard for others to follow, the accompaning narration proves you obviously put the time in and do your homework, and the HC subtitles a welcomed addition for the hard to hear parts, well done you both.

      Pleased you enjoyed this episode 😊 unfortunately for my generation this way of shopping is not very popular but we’re trying our best to be more conscious of how much waste we produce and it seems supermarkets are also sensing a change in trends and a return to how things were with refillables etc

    I'm just in love with the transition at 20:52, don't know if it was on purpose, but you matched the lines so nice it made me feel like warm inside.
    At 10:42 I honestly had a feeling the video ended, and it was a bit rough how you connected the two stories, something to do with the audio maybe, I can't figure it out.
    Have you considered making multiple 10 minute videos rather than one long one? I feel like you could've made at least 2 different videos from this with different focuses and one third one to wrap up Hungary, kind of like you did at the ending here but a bit more "off the script" just so we know what you personally think about the experience, rather than narrating over the b-roll, I honestly think you're very interesting people that I'd like to know more of, the narrative experience depersonalised the video and makes it feel like a documentary, like I said, I'd like to know more of you guys and I think other viewers agree.
    About splitting the story, there's a reason why I suggest this, a Hungarian viewer seeing videos of their country would rather click on one out of 3 different 10 minute videos than commit to a single, long 30 minute one, also, with different titles on same tag(Hungary) you have more search real estate and more of your thumbnails which will incline some to watch. Maybe test if segmenting the adventures more would improve the KPIs, you're still a "new" channel so now is just a good as time as ever to test different formats.
    Also, I want some closure about what you guys talked about in the car 1 (or 2?) episodes ago when you were each saying what you know about Hungary before you visit it, would be nice to go full circle and ask everyone what they know now.

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  4 роки тому +1

      Hey, thanks for the feedback. We were really of two minds whether to create two separate videos or merge these into one, ultimately we decided to go with one to show two contrasting sides of the country however we have been talking about our videos being focussed more on one subject per video so I think we’ll be doing that in future.
      The whole idea of this video though was to be in a documentary style, as we are working in the field of photo documentary so these videos are intended to be a kind of informative behind the scenes of our documentary work ☺️ However we are now working on doing more on-camera pieces as we go, but we don’t really want our videos to fall too much into the “vlog” category.
      Also our next video will be featuring a couple of extra bits of Hungary before we cross into Romania, so we’ll be giving a summary of what we’ve learned and enjoyed about the country before moving on- this will be a theme across all of our videos, our preconceptions vs what we experienced.
      Thanks for watching and of course for the insights again, it’s good to get some constructive feedback on our work ☺️

    ....a Merchant bought two Goats from a Farmer for £860.
    If the Merchant went to the market to sell them both and, he made a 25% loss on one and a one-third profit on the other.
    If the total profit on the sale of these Goats was £30; how much did he pay for each ?
    How much did he sell them both individually for ?

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  4 роки тому +1

      I think you might have got it confused, we’re not trying to reframe anything. Just going off what our Hungarian friends were explaining to us about their own lifestyles really. It was interesting for us to observe their way of shopping here and inspiring, too. I don’t think anywhere we stated the pensioners are shopping here to reduce emissions. Please rewatch and then comment :) Green delusions? The planets dying because of human greed and destruction, factual not delusional.
