I can explain this one for u, well see when gaea created Ouranos, the father of the titans , Ouranos was the sky and didn’t need to be held up by a titan at the time. But see Gaea became angry with Ouranos because he cast away Gaea’s other children, the cyclopes and hekitonchires (forgot how to spell it) . Ouranos viewed them as hideous and abominations, Which angered Gaea. She then fashioned a Scythe or Sickle, and had her son Kronos murder Ouranos. This is what led to the sky being needed to be held up and it had titans taking turns holding up Ouranos.

I think it was in an old film adaptation of the Percius myth. (Maybe even the original clash of the titans. I can't remember well since I last saw it over ten years ago) that Percius came upon atlas in his travels and took pity on the titan who seemed to be kind hearted. And when he came back from killing Medusa, Atlas asked him to turn him to stone so he would be at peace and no longer have to suffer. I can't remember well but I always preferred that version of Atlas. A good natured being who simply wanted to be free of his pain. Though in that same vein I like the idea of Heracles building some pillars for him so he could be free. I always imagine him going to be with what's left of his family.
If Atlas becoming a huge mountain range could be most plausible, would that mean the strain of bearing the heaven's weight upon him, would no longer exist?

I must point this out to you: Heracles was te great grandson of Perseus. So Atlas couldn't have been wary of Perseus because of Heracles' trickery. Since Perseus came before Heracles..
Just listening to the various myths or stories of Atlas I think I have a better comprehension of the etymology and origin of what the world is familiar with about the word "atlas" and how it figures in with geography, maps and the mountain range in Africa.
Problems, problems, Hercules/ Heracles is a descendant of Perseus, a grandson or maybe a great grandson. Atlas would have meet Perseus first, and then later on Hercules/ Heracles. The way of, Hercules/ Heracles, is the way of judgment, straight and narrow like an arrow, where as, the way of, Perseus, is that of ADVENTURE, and Atlas, not a god, but a titan, can be thought of as pole holding up a tent or maybe center pole of a merry-go-round.
The Titans held supremacy over the whole Earth and all living things on it until Cronus became power-mad (insane?), devouring his children including Zeus and Hera, the future Olympian King and Queen of not only the Gods but mankind as well. Getting to Atlas, because he took part in the Titan-Olympian War, Zeus proved how cruel he was by subjecting Atlas to his eternal fate: holding up the sky (heavens) on his shoulders. I always wondered what would have happened IF Atlas dropped the sky (or Earth) from his shoulders! Can you conceive such an event happening? IT WOULD BE THE END OF NOT ONLY OLYMPUS, BUT EARTH AND THE CREATURES ON IT! OLYMPIAN RAGNAROK!!!! Atlas is my favorite Titan, along with Prometheus, who also suffered at the wrath of Zeus! Yes, Cronos swallowed the stone instead of Zeus. Rhea, Zeus's mother, hid the infant God (Zeus was not a man, i.e. mortal) so he could grow to adulthood and take on Cronos and free his brothers and sisters. So yes, Amber, thank you for clarifying that!

Who hold the sky before Atlas ???
nobody , meaning old world was a mystical and foggy place
I can explain this one for u, well see when gaea created Ouranos, the father of the titans , Ouranos was the sky and didn’t need to be held up by a titan at the time. But see Gaea became angry with Ouranos because he cast away Gaea’s other children, the cyclopes and hekitonchires (forgot how to spell it) . Ouranos viewed them as hideous and abominations, Which angered Gaea. She then fashioned a Scythe or Sickle, and had her son Kronos murder Ouranos. This is what led to the sky being needed to be held up and it had titans taking turns holding up Ouranos.
was juuuuuuuuuuuust about to ask the same thing.
the 4 brothers of Cronus held Ouranos (Heaven) up before Atlas.
@@locolando8139 still doesnt work as punishment was give after the great war between titans and gods so who held the sky in the period between ouranus defeat and cronos defeat
Ancient Greeks sure have a very intelligent ideas to makeup stories like this. It's so strange.
Lol You all are going to be very surprised when you find out what is real..
These ancient niggas took hallucinogenics, only way they could come with this shit.
No Make up stories those stores are fucking real
@@mosthigh1007 I already know it’s real

The Titans will never fall
Would you please do a video on the Titanesses? That would awesome!
The celestial sky is too heavy for Atlas to shrug it off. He isn't enduring it willingly.
Atlas reminds me of that Lil Wayne song “drop the world” 😂🔥
Yep🤣🤣🤣
Citizen Solider’s Weight of The World
Hera would be interesting to know more about
I believe atlas is the same as people today some just want peace but when themselves and there family that are threatened they take action and even if they fail they fully take the consequences of there actions but that's just me the only tribe we have is family but what is family
Next you should do the other punished titan Prometheus, of course. And then Hercules. Hopefully you have already done those. So lets go watch them.
Thanks that was very helpful 😊
12:01 saying that Atlas is honorable
Jupiter goes toe to toe with Saturn on December 21.
How do you know???
@@angelnicolemclean4454 it’s called the great convergence. It already happen
i feel that atlas is the greatest unselfish solid honorable nobles story of all stories . as he and he alone holds the weight of the world and its exitance in his hands for all eternity . never allowing the sky to fall and crush us all . with out a mutter a dis taste a word against his punishment . while the rest of us are free to run and play and escape our duties there is atlas never faltering never complaining never stopping . if only more of us modern men could be more like atlas.!
3:30 that made me wheeze so hard-
Can you do one on Metis?
Anyone else know that this mythology, these gods were actually planets personified and attached to stories to remember very real events of the golden age and end of
Atlas is the Berber ( AMAZIGH PEOPLE'S) from North Africa to the Berber(AMAZIGH PEOPLE'S) kingdom of Mauritania

Everyone is gangsta untill the Founding Titan appear. Ooooops. Wrong animé.
Could we get a video about HYPERION please.
I'd like to hear more about Percius and Hercules.
Atlas is my favorite Titan. Maybe do his father Iapetus next.
Atlas got the best thing he could have, by being turned to stone. he has no weight to bear or anything seems bitter sweet.
could you do the father of atlas & his brothers & their wives if you haven't already?
Congrats on a job well done with your channel, The Legends of History. One detail though, the battle is known as titanomachy. Thanks for the content you prepare and offer here
Thanks for the vid sir.👍🏼👍🏼 How about weapons of the gods/titans?
Zeus has a PH.d in giving punishments
Atlas has always been a fascinating character.
I don't feel like it's the 2nd one because in Hercules's 12 labors. Hercules was able to hold the sky for Atlas
Where do yall learn more about greek gods and the wars? Are there any books? Im reading Percy Jackson and now want to learn more about the gods
❤allyourvideos.
Nice work and please make one video on The Titan #Hyperion.
I must point this out to you: Heracles was te great grandson of Perseus. So Atlas couldn't have been wary of Perseus because of Heracles' trickery. Since Perseus came before Heracles..
There are many versions of the myths and many versions of Heracles/Hercules.
I've read somewhere that when Atlas was punished to carry the sky, he was turned to stone and became a mountain or mountains in Africa.
Atlas should have ruled Olympus!!!!😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
agree
Yes, Cronos swallowed the stone instead of Zeus. Rhea, Zeus's mother, hid the infant God (Zeus was not a man, i.e. mortal) so he could grow to adulthood and take on Cronos and free his brothers and sisters. So yes, Amber, thank you for clarifying that!
Atlas's Strength is remarkable 👍🏿⭐👍🏿⭐👍🏿⭐👍🏿⭐
thank you enjoyed this

How come just doeent drop it plz answer me
Very excellent well put-together video I appreciate it I've always for some reason liked Atlas and felt sympathy for him ever since I was a child.... I would like for you to do stuff on Tartarus and Erebus...
I like it. I love Greek mythology. But Perseus lived before Heracles, not after.
Specifically, he’s one of Heracles’s ancestors
Continuity errors. The director & editor really screwed up.
So, in all this narrations, the only question that was not answered is "What or Who was holding the Heavens and the Earth before Atlas?"
