  • The Peugeot e-208 uses the same electric drivetrain as the Vauxhall Corsa-E, but in here it's much more exciting. It's possibly the best small car on sale.
    Mark talks you through it.

    Yo Marky Mark, my girlfriend has ordered a 208 and it is down in some small part to you. Well, I did force her to watch the ICE review you did last year and I was pointing at the screen the whole time saying "look! it's my favourite man who reviews cars on a UA-cam channel that is owned by a leasing company!", she replied "you have a favourite man for this?". But you get it, it is important to have a favourite man, gives you someone to go to with an authority you can trust. So thanks bro

    Well, the "counterintuitiveness" of the steering-knobs is just sourced in putting the steering to the right. On LHD-cars the knobs work perfectly.

      Because the French can never be bothered to redesign the car properly for RHD. So where other companies change the buttons round, but the French dont.

    Reckon you’ve left the b&w filter on too long around 8 mins! Other than that, love this 208. 205 mk2. Pug on a roll since the 308.

    The bit you missed regarding electric over ICE - which is not surprising since you are "sponsored" by a lease company is that the depreciation is much less on electric cars. This is reflected on the relatively cheap lease deal - since they know they will get a lot a value on hand back. So if you buy this car, they you will benefit from the lower depreciation meaning that the life time cost (lets say 3 years) is much less than you expect from the high initial cost, since you loose little money over the life time of ownership.
    Of course, the high upfront cost is a problem for many people.

    Never expected to see a car reviewer use the clip show format, still can’t decide if it’s inspired, lazy, or both. As entertaining as ever, Mark.

    I'm acquiring the Allure version next week.
    One thing I particularly picked up on in your review was when you remarked that in the e208 you had no problem with the brakes, which almost every other reviewer complains about because they find them spongy and a tad slow to respond. Their observations greatly worry me because I'll have a near 300 mile drive homewards after I've collected the car from the dealer and the fear of an accident in such circumstances is, repeat, worrying. Brake anxiety writ large... So when you remarked that the brakes were no problem for you I began to feel a mite less jittery. Of course I realise you were comparing the Pug's brakes to the Vauxhall counterpart but would you please care to expand on your experience with the e208's brakes? I'd be most interested to hear your more detailed comments in this connection in view of all I've said. Thanks.

      Brake feel in electric cars is something that reviewers put too much emphasis on (including me, probably) IMO, because it's one of the main things that feels 'different' in an electric car. I've never driven an electric car with problematic brake feel, it's just a bit different, the result of having to blend in an element of regenerative braking. Some feel worse than others - the e-Corsa had inconsistent feel, for example - but it's never really an actual issue, it's just something to get used to. You'll push the brake a few times, think "ooh, that's different" then be used to it within hours or days.
      The Passat GTE that I've just had (plug-in hybrid) probably has the slowest, spongiest brake feel I've comer across for a long time, but I still wouldn't categorise it as something to worry about from a safety perspective, just something to consider and get used to.
      tl;dr - it's fine, enjoy the car, it's great. :-D

      Have you got it yet? Which version? How is the 'feel' of the regen braking scenario? Is that P thingy at the front of the gear lever fiddly to operate? What's the noise insulation factor like? And the ride quality (are you on 16" or 17" wheels)? What are the general negatives of the beast?

    Your Stellantis diagram makes no mention of Opel, which was far more important than Vauxhall who basically had been selling rebadged Opels since the 1970s...
    PSA agreed to buy Opel in 2017.
    Then PSA and FCA merged last month to form Stellantis (awful name!).

    Depreciation - no one talks about that!!
    I can imagine it will be crippling - so who's gonna buy one of these? No one!! And so we're going to have a second hand car market awash with electric stuff no one wants, at the price of a new petrol equivalent.
    We will live to regret running before we could walk.

    • @patricksheringham5965
      @patricksheringham5965 3 роки тому +1

      I agree, and especially "second hand" who is going to buy this car after 4 or 5 years when all of those batteries are on their way out. These vehicles only make sense if you live and work in a city and have access to off road parking and therefore charging, go to a petrol station and use a 50kw charger and all of a sudden refuelling becomes very expensive!!!!!.... I did look at this car out of interest and must admit it is a very good looking car but I am not convinced electric is the way forward, and there are some big manufacturers trying to develop very low to zero emission fuels which could render these cars obsolete!...

    • @Nav1g8r1
      @Nav1g8r1 3 роки тому +1

      I would buy a second hand one but... I can't comply with the warranty limit of just 8000 miles a year.
