"The Years of Death and Dying" is a tribute to our friends and heroes who have passed away in recent years. The lyrics were written by our very own, Tom Hunting!
Tom comments: “The Years Of Death And Dying started out as a poem, from the perspective of Death, being a thinking entity, always watching and looking for weakness and opportunity to come calling for people. A Grim Reaper story. We were losing legends: Bowie, Cash, Petty, Prince, Frey…the list goes on and on. Then we started losing family members and friends in our own orbit. Anyway, the title came first, then the poem, which became a song. I shared the lyrics with Gary, who helped inspire me with phrasing to finish it, and the guys loved it. The song is really long, and more legends kept passing right up into the moments Zet was singing it, so I had to keep writing until I had enough to complete the song. We hope you enjoy our tribute to the fallen!”

EXODUS "THE YEARS OF DEATH AND DYING" LYRICS
Lyrics Tom Hunting
Music Gary Holt
I am the years of death and dying
I tear with gripping teeth
I prey upon all the weary
eliminate the weak
Not a day in your life passes
when you won’t think of me
No thought and prayers can save you
So get up off of your knees
When I sense a weakness
I move in with blazing speed
Mothers, brothers, fathers and sons
it matters not to me
Chorus
I’m a force of nature pure and sure
I’ve killed through all of time
When a GALE force wind blows through you
you’ll know that you are mine
I am legend, I’m your end
you’ll wither when I’m near
I’m the years of death and dying
the sum of all your fears
You may have had a brush with me
escaped and saved yourself
Most likely I was occupied
with killing someone else
Legends fall when I come to call
as I plan my next attack
PETTY things won’t matter
just ask THE MAN IN BLACK
The RAGE is gone and so is BON
so young in their demise
I ended the ERUPTION
I took them in their prime
Repeat chorus
Solo Gary
Solo Lee
I cull the herd with no remorse
taking souls along the WAY
I’m here to set the balance
of all you have to pay
I turned ZIGGY into STARDUST
I’ve been killing ever since
I took an EAGLE from the sky
I even killed a PRINCE
Struck down the QUEEN
Bid FAREWELL TO KINGS
I took the ANGEL OF DEATH
I’m always at the ready
to take away your breath
Repeat Chorus

You guys are fucking legends and this song blows me away
The band that should have been bigger than metallifuck insanely good song.
\m/ Hell Yeah!!!!!
Horns up good job fellas
Love it!! , kicks ass for sure
Imagine Hannemann and Holt together in Slayer. They would have made some sick tunes
Hanneman can't solo for shit.
@@stephanea5364 but Holt can!
@@stephanea5364 Yet Holt couldn't replicate Hannamen's solos. Jeff played off the wall shit, also he wrote most of slayer's earlier material.
@@oliverguenther6360 Holt didn't want to replicate that bullshit. But no, I don't dismiss him as a songwriter, he was the best songwriter in Slayer.
RIP Jeff. We Grow Remember March On
Holt is truly the Riff King 👑
King of solos
Greatest to ever do it
He is the best
too bad we never got to see what he wrote for Slayer
Hail Holt!
You may not like his vocals but there is no denying that Zetro is THE voice of Exodus. Their two biggest songs The Toxic Waltz and Blacklist (both with over 10 000 000 streams on Spotify) is sung by him and he is the only vocalist of the band that has released albums with them in every decade (80's, 90's, 00's, 10's and now the 20's). Zetro is a thrash legend and when you hear him you know that it's him right away, truly unique voice!
Who is saying anything about zetro? His vocals are fucking awesome is like metal Bon Scott, who in this god forsaken world doesn't like Metal Bon Scott?
@@kapohimura8721 Lately with the new singles I have seen a lot of people bashing Zetro on social media. People who either want Rob back or just don't like Zet's vocals. I love all three Exodus singers but Zetro is my favorite. I just don't get why people have to be so harsh on the internet, Zetro deserves more respect in my opinion.
@@kapohimura8721 His vocals have regressed significantly from even the previous album. They have gone from tolerable to ear destroying.
@@kazuhabennett1800 But Blitz voice is comparable and people rave about him. Go figure.
@@stephanea5364 I don't see the comparison. Blitz sounds nasally, Zetro sounds like fucking muppet.
This is the EXODUS I like. Mid-tempo but very powerfull
Yeah , Blacklist style, great song.
Except for the hag sounding vocals
@@Pirustae yeah, his voice was better on Tempo of the Damned
@@Pirustae Well said dude..been a fan since Bonded..Zet was great in the classic late 80s era..love Rob Dukes era some of the heaviest shit they ever did..I think Zets whiny Bon Scott wannabe vocals are gettin' too much..had his day..bring back Rob...
Agreed
Gary riffs Master
TOM Drums king
I love the reference to fallen musicians in the 3rd verse. Angel of Death in 4:15 is obviously Jeff Hanneman, great tribute!
There were more than that. Also mentioned were Bon (Bon Scott), the man in black (Johnnie Cash), Prince (Prince obviously), farewell to kings (Neil Peart), queen (Freddie Mercury), eruption (Eddie Van Halen) and several others
I just got this album on vinyl and noticed certain lyrics of this song were capitalized on the liner notes. It only took me 3 seconds to make the connection in each case.
@@dionr1168 still waiting for my vinyl :(
@@oldGnRrocks1 I hear ya. I asked my aunt for that on vinyl for Christmas and it didn't come in until after Christmas
“I turned Ziggy into Stardust” David Bowie.
Love the more mid paced Exodus material, the riff on this is killer and Zetro sounds particularly venomous!
I agree. The people hating on his vocals aren't true fans. Him and Tom Araya are the only aged vocalists I've heard that actually sound like they did when they were young. Joey Belladonna still sounds decent, but Hetfield, Mustaine, and Chuck Billy's vocals didn't age so well unfortunately.
@@huntergeorge3909 I mostly agree, but I do think Chuck Billy still sounds good.
@@huntergeorge3909 I actually think that vocals usually don't get worse. They just change by aging. In my opinion Hetfield actually never sang as good as he does now. On Master of Puppets and AJFA he sounded great for sure but what he is capable of doing live nowadays is really remarkable. But of cause his singing style changed. Chuck Billy also still sounds great and Zetro will always sound brutal I guess. He just tears you apart with his voice. Other Old School Thrash vocalists that are still great in my opinion are Tom Angelripper from Sodom and Mille Petrozza from Kreator. Tom's singing only got better with time and Mille still screams like he always did.
Same, I just realized it when I heard this and Prescribing Horror. Zetro sounds so fucking cool and it's kinda like Tempo of the Damned but better.
Agreed. Although imo Hetfields voice sounds better live now than ever before. I wish i could say same for Lars drumming...
This goes very well with my morning coffee.. Good job Exodus 🤘.
EX☕️DUS!
Coffee enema.

Holt has the riff power. Zetro sounds like an evil elf, harbouring revenge on those who thought they could steal from him!
Materpiece. Lyrically and musically. Love Exodus, been there since the first album.
Another EPIC song from a real thrash band that still kicking ass after all these years hell yeah
Except now they plan to vaxx-only crowds, which is the greatest slap in the face ever to those of us who've b even fans since we were kids
ill be uploading a review for the new album this Monday please check it out.
To Roll Troll - I think it has alot to do with the venue, i don't think a Band could or would say "only Vaxed crowds"
@@MetalHeart8787 You're missing thre point! They OK'd the venue!!!

Being an Exodus fan from the beginning I have to say this brings me so much joy! Cannot wait to get in the pit and get some THERAPY!! See you in Oakland, BAY AREA THRASH FOREVER!!
Excellent singer. His voice sounds like an evil person is fucking angry about everything around him. Greetings from Finland
Don't care for it myself sounds like a whining Bryan Johnson From AC/DC. I dig the tunes but the vocals suck Rob was way better.
@@3dprinting968 Rob was generic though. I mean sure the vocals are at their most over the top here, but can Rob do Piranha? No, but Steve can. Can Rob do Toxic Waltz? No...He just has that bland hardcore punk voice.
Zetro sounds like a fucking Goblin about to hunt you down at night. Saw Exodus live, let me tell you they are one the most VIOLENT shows in Metal..........
@@luiselizondo7030 I still have bruises from 2 weeks ago lol
monster riff and tone, the vocals are what they are
He always sounded like a worn out hag. It's the vocals that ruins the music.
Sounds like the Green Goblin
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle the vocals
@@wtheo7188 I got your comment I re-read it, sorry
The vocals kill! 🤘 Souza the true vocalist of Exodus!
Omg that bass is ass kicking! Loving this album already, Holt never dissapoints
I agree, the bass sounds killler reminds me of how good overkills bass sounds with that band! Go Exodus! They’ll be in Orlando soon!
Exodus saved my life !
"Petty things wont matter" Tom Petty, "just ask the Man In Black" Johnny Cash. This song hits hard.
Rage is gone. So is Bon. It's cool when band or musicians names are thrown into songs, throws in the word eruption for a VH ref nice

metal song of the year
The epochal jams from Gary and Lee! And a very good sound in general. The album promises to be asscrushing!
Powerful and brutal as fuck. Welcome back Exodus. True masters of riffs and epic delivers of thrash metal
Love this song already. It's so raw, emotional, and it's powerful. We're all mortals.
Bon Scott - hands down - one of THEE greatest rock n' roll frontmen to ever walk a stage...
For damn sure.
Elvis was the king
@@anthonydalicandro8848
In the 50's. Since then, not so much.
@@jacobthomas9365 As far as rock n' roll frontmen, Elvis yes top 5. Not so much a "songwriter", but yes as a performer on stage, Elvis was one of the best.
@@JohnnyangelNIU
To me, 50's rock was an entirely different genre than what rock became 10 years later. The mid-to-late 60's is when the modern rock era began, with bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Led Zeppelin, so if I'm going to pick the best rock frontman of all time, it would be The Lizard King, Jim Morrison - he had the voice of Elvis but much darker and more haunting as well as an equally dark and powerful stage presence and persona to match. He was also one of the best lyricists in rock. But I suppose if you're 70 years old or older, then you would prefer Elvis.
Holy damn! Exodus has returned and outdid themselves! This is a masterpiece. Horns high!
Great Guitar Rhythm and Sound
Riffs are brutal AF Gary Holt is truly a Guitar God
Love the connection with all those deceased legends as Bon, Queen and Angel of Death !
Eddie and "Eruption" too...great, dark song
David Bowie and Prince too
Neil Peart farewell to Kings
Angel of death=Jeff Hanneman
Malcolm young also
Love those slow bulldozer riffs.
good old exodus !!
amazing riff and song ..chorus sounds like udo and accept ..killer
That's what I was thinking 🤔👌
🎶🤘😎🤘🎶
Is it a good thing for a thrash band though?
Man the RIFFS!! Holy shit!!!! 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻
I can't get enough of this distinct bass/guitar tone.
it‘s criminal!
Andy Sneap does an amazing job separating the bass and guitar frequencies with Exodus. Every album since Tempo has had that great bass tone.
@@keefriff99 thx for pointing that out!
This album is going to be epic 🤘
Metal rules!!
Massive metal and old school thrash fan ! Musician myself . This solid trucking bass line with the guitar accenting and cutting vocals with some serious meaning … Wow … It’s coming for us all ! 🤟
I can't wait for this album!!!
Aging like fine wine, Exodus just keeps rolling out killer songs! 🤘🔥🔥🔥🤘
Twisted lyrics and what a vocals and riff .. all hails to exodus
Heard Bonded by Blood the year it came out & have been hooked ever since. Best dual gtr work ever, heavier than any of their fellow "Big 5" and still able to produce mad stuff like this (love the chorus). Kudos, the intensity never falters. 🤘
Awesome tribute to so many music legends. Thanks for this, Exodus!
I love it
Long live real metal. Its still far better and far more authentic than a lot of the fake metal we see these days.
Out of the three Exodus singles out now, this is hands down my favorite. It's so brutal, the lyrics are beautiful, even though they're written from a dark point of view.
Can't delay the inevitable!
I really hope they play this at their next show!
I'm from Colombia and as you know they were at speaker 2022 in Medellín and they played this song, I enjoyed it to the fullest, I was very excited.
I can't wait for my copy to land but being in the UK we are the last to get our's.
Steve's vocal's are sounding better than ever, he's killing it.
Try South Africa ;)
Was over the moon when Steve finally returned on the last album. So the gap between these 2 albums has felt especially long
@@Sean-fv4wi Australia might give you both a run for your money, or the UK at least.
Agree very much about Zetro returning and the gap.
@@asphaalanx I've always been used to being behind in getting physical copies, whether back when we still had actual decent music shops or online... But since last year's shit, anything I order online has taken a minimum of 2-3 months to arrive. I'll be lucky to have this new Exodus in my hands by end of January :-/
@@Sean-fv4wi I can understand that. Since last year it's been similar here. Massive delays and minimal tracking updates. At least (if they sell this digitally), you could maybe get it in a combo so you've got the digital version to hold you over.
No matter where they record,,, it sounds like Exodus!!!
A Masterpiece
This Riff Is A Killer Kickass!!!!
I Love Exodus.. AWESOME!!!
Awesome song, crunching riff!
Whoa, this sounds like it could be on Tempo of the Damned. Awesome. Love this production.
I love all the references to previous artists. Man in black- Johnny Cash, the Rage is gone- Rage Against the Machine, and so is Bon- Bon Scott. Not sure about eruption, who that's referencing. Ziggy into Stardust- David Bowie, took an eagle from the sky- the Eagles, even killed a Prince (obvious), struck down the Queen, took the Angel of Death- Slayer, take away your breath- Sting. All the references alone make me love this song!!!
Eruption was surely a nod to Van Halen. It was the intro & guitar solo to the cover version of, "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks.
Gary and Lee, gods of 6-strings! My fav band!!🤘🏻
The solos are sick!!!!!
hahahah not...
What a fantastic fkn badass song. Yet a heartfelt tribute to all the lost musical geniuses and influencers of our time.
I love that arpeggio lick in the chorus
Originally thought this was a song about Covid, now I know it's a tribute to our fallen heroes in music. 🤘†
Better lyricism and dark puns than just about any tribute song I've ever heard. Best part is, I know for a fact that all the artists they mentioned, I know they are HUGE fans of. It's just an Exodus style to make it sound bleak as fuck, and still be a tribute.
Totally, very similar to Destruction when they did 'Thrash till Death' but at the same time incredibly Exodus.
Zetro did not lie when he said this album is gonna be heavy! And this along with the other two new songs proves it. November 19th hurry the fuck up!
I am Addicted to this now. Thanks EXODUS
One of my favorite bands.💀Best song‼ 💚
Fuckn awesome took 7 years but with holt filling in for the big man in slayer guess it took a while. Well worth it. Being from Down Under the song 'the beatings will continue' was particularly cool and this is almost unbelievably brutal. Can't wait to buy the album.
Blown away with this masterpiece!!
What a gem and with all the sub text on point like never before
In this world exodus is my favourite metal band...!! I like this type of voice and music...lov from india

Scott Ian recently said the Big Four should be expanded to include Exodus. He's 100% correct
The Bass is kicking a lot of ass
Awesome discovering what this song is about. Genius!
This is the best Lyrics video I've ever seen :+)
Hahahaha! Ikr? The way the words just fly to the centre of the screen, and then tremble a bit before going away. It's just uncanny! Like nothing we've ever seen before...
From the start to present, Exodus never change their sound. Pure thrash like Slayer🤘🏼
Both bands sold out, not as much as Metallica and megadeth, but exodus went heavy into groove metal on force of habit and slayer went for nu metal and groove metal on diabolus in musica, I’m not complaining though as both are good albums and both bands returned to thrash
Whenever I see a comment like this, it makes me wonder if OPs ever heard those bands discographies in full.
Yep, Divine Intervention and Diabolus in Musica is a part of Hanneman's experiment which is a combination of groove, nu and thrash
Love this band so much
