You could make a strong argument they are the best, though being the best of anything is highly subjective. These guys have, and still are, put out some top quality shit.
Testament is still kicking ass too. Last I heard from Kreator they were still good as well

Gary Holt has always been one of the best thrash metal guitarists. Brutal riffs! That drumming is sick! Zetro with the demonic voice! Bunch of old dudes still are way better than anything new coming out
All masters of their craft. Zetro may be my fave thrash vocalist. Same goes for Gary in thrash guitar. Same goes for Tom on drums. Thrash gods \m/

Amazing how a band like exodus was not part of the big 4, yet they have always been the definition of thrash metal.
Their debut album was supposedly held up in production, for quite some time, over a year it seems.
This arguably played a big role in their place in the history of the genre.
If it had been released on time, would it have had more impact? We will never know.

The "big 4" is all about marketing and $. Real fans know there are at least several more from that era equally as good to the genre.
Never gave exodus a chance since I couldn’t never get into BOB with horrible production and bad baloff vocals. Now in my 30s, I’d rank exodus only behind Metallica. Holt and Hunolt were amazing. 97 Live album with Baloff might be best live metal album of all time. Not a massive fan or their 2004-onward work but you can’t beat their riffs
I like Anthrax very much but they shouldn't be part of the big 4....of the 4 they're actually the weakest band with the least sales!

Greetings from Colombia, Exodus incredible as always, but I can't believe that Tom Hunting despite what he had to go through due to his illness, he plays the drums like a true brutal machine, I dare to say that he plays better every time, I admire you very much. Excellent album 10/10.

Being unsurpassable in a music style filled with uncountable awesome bands would be considered impossible by most people... And this is exactly what Exodus is.

I´ve seen EXODUS live 5 times and can´t get enough of them, Zetro is such a nice guy, on 2020 at 70.000 Tons of Metal I was on the first show with Gary after he left Slayer and for the second show they played "Bonded by Blood" the entire album...

The solos are so bad ass specially Gary's I can't leave to listen to, they demonstrate that shredding "easy" is better than the "turkey shredding" 🦃 which is not bad but the way Gary does it is very expressive. I wish I could see them just one time in my life

Exodus been my 100% favorite metal band ever since I was an 80s dude... So glad so see them get their full respect on a current world. So many thrashers have said that the Bonded By Blood album is the quintessential thrash album that so many people sleep on. I was a bit hesitant on their new stuff because of the changes to lineup and how "double bass" it became... But honestly, there's plenty of the core remaining (guitar, VOKILLS, even though Souza is the second singer he is the one most people remember)... But when I sit back and think about how long this band has endured when the "big 4" gets all the thrash glory... I'm tons less hesitant about the newest albums! I'm all in, still!
Got to be honest , iv'e always loved the heavy thrash of Exodus and Holt is a beast. When he took over for Jeff in Slayer he killed it. But i could never get into the vocals of Exodus , this voice is just to annoying for me. But i give the band mad respect because they're still doing it at a high level and still heavy as fuck!🤘🤘

best/top thrash metal bands what was anthrax I mean rapthrax even in the line up for anyway I liked anthrax but never would I have picked them that is like replacing Megadeth with suicidal tendencies WTF. Fist Full of Metal , the song Metal Thrashing Mad was sick as hell! I also liked them better in the John Bush era , The Sound of White Noise was a masterpiece IMO!!!

@@samandcarlie They may be older now but make no mistake, they should never be lumped in with proper old school bands like 80s thrash (Exodus, Kreator, etc) & classic metal (Dio, Maiden, etc). Any youngster starting out even today, would be able to tell the difference in sound. Unless u consider anything with loud guitars as old school.

So glad that classic thrash bands, such as Exodus, have stood the test of time and are still killing it in 2022. Not only that, but being even more killer now, than even compared to the heyday of the thrash scene/sound in the 1980s-early 1990s. Even more importantly, I love Steve Souza's singing style...his raspy vocals are just plain legendary, and are so menacing. "The Big Four" are always mentioned (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax), and while I love all 4 of them, I've always felt that Exodus should be in that group as well. How could they not be?? 🤷
