1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle; then turn the key counterclockwise, to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). The DIC display will again show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. The DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). Remaining remote key fobs can be relearned during the next steps. The DIC display should now show READY FOR REMOTE # 1.
4. Place the new smart key fob in the cupholder .
5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next remote key fob.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the transmitter.
To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4-6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

Bought a 2019 Chevrolet equinox premier from a used dealership. They gave me a FOB without remote start and I did some digging and found that my cat was equipped with remote start. So I bought a FOB off Amazon and 30 mins later I now have remote start. Thank you so much for the video! Saving hundreds of dollars.

I just done this on my 2021 it worked! In the end, you have to keep exiting out. Wait a few minutes and keep hitting the start/stop button. The dealership said it would be $200. I was very impressed with the tutorial.

@@jld817 yes, it popped up remote 2 on screen after I programed new one. So I put it in cup holder and both worked afterwards. I didn't want to go through the 30 minutes again.
@@jld817 I bought key fob off eBay for 34$ and the same guy cut the key for 20$ from a picture I sent of key. Both worked great.

With the original remote I started the process with it. Do I remove the key and input the new cut key before programming the new fob?
Or can I just remove fob 1 and put down the new fob 2 as in 4-6?
Or do I take the key out of the new fob? Or just start with the new one first?
If I have 2 key fobs and only one is dead do I have to reprogram both key fobs. You suggested maybe yes but you didn't go through the process for both keys. So does this process set up a different code or is it the same code as original. I only have one key fob that doesn't work.

Pretty informative video 👍🏽. So i just got my 2024, two key fobs but no remote start button. I read options it came with and it said remote/keyless start. So a couple questions. 1.Do I have to get the new key cut or can I use one of the ones I already have for the 1st step? 2. I heard you have to reprogram all the fobs again and 3. Do I have to repeat every step for each fob?
I held the button for 12 seconds, still asking for key 2 and when you start it, it says “service theft deterrent system” and the light is on. Any ideas? Tried disconnecting the battery, didn’t reset. Any advice?
Programming a second key should resolve that issue
@@PYR-Auto yeah, took it back to the key guy, he programmed a 2nd key and everything is back to normal. I guess having only 1 key is not enough for the car in case... you know... you lose it like we did that got us into this mess in the first place lol. so there we are.

@@RicardoErnestoCucalonLevy yeah, the key repair guy only had the 1 at the time, so he could only do one, but when he got the 2nd one in, programmed it and all the warnings went away. apparently they need a minimum of 2.

Suggest adding a caveat to your Key Fob prg instructions. If you already have a key fob that is programmed and you're adding a second remote, you will have to re-add/reprogram the original key fob because this programming is an overall programming of the key fobs

I set up a new transmitter. But in the dash i have the massage cervice theft system then my other one stop work . I did everything again with the other transmitter it work again but the new one stopped and the message keep on dash. So i made mistake, i did again and set up the old one us #1 and new us #2 than everything is good now. Thanks my friend.

Hello, I tried to set up my new key fob on 2020 equinox and I have the anti deterrent message showing. I freaked out and have not been able to make the message go away. How did you get the message to go away?
Somehow both of the key fobs that I got from the dealership when I purchased my 2019 Chevy Equinox stopped working outside of being put in the transmitter area. Like they weren’t went from being programmed to un programmed somehow. I replaced both batteries just to be sure. Now I’m trying this video in hopes to get at least one working again.

You can use this procedure you will just need to re-program in your old key fob during the procedure, as if it was a new one. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video or in your owners manual, you will repeat steps 4-6 for each key fob.

I got to ready for remote 1 and could not get the remote recognized until i placed the remote wit the buttons facing up. After few seconds i got message ready for remote 2. Keep the remote in the cup holder and try positioning it differently.

For some reason 2020 equinox will not program! It just stops halfway thru programming mode- I start over it does the same thing. It never gets to program fob no idea why

2018 Equinox (31,000 miles): From the Beginning of owning this vehicle, one of the remotes has always been intermittently working. Under warranty, the dealership never replaced the remote. Instead, they would replace the battery and say that it is ok. It is still seldom working and very intermittent. Fortunately we have the second key fob that works flawlessly. I'm finally fed up with this remote.
Where can I purchase a new one? (or should I try this procedure to add this remote and start fresh by reprogramming the car to recognize the remote again?). Thanks!
reprogramming the old remote probably won't have any effect if it has always functioned that way. Check out bit.ly/CarAndTruckRemotes. I would recommend getting an OEM remote from wherever you end up buying from.

Question - I recently purchased 2018 Equinox that only has 1 proximity remote and cut key. I see that can go through this process and it will reprogram the existing remote as well as the new one. My concern is that the Chevy has an after market car starter. Other posts warn to expect issues due to that. If there are issues during the attempt to pair, will the EXISTING remote still work if the airing fails on the new one? At what point is the point of no return? Could I have NO working fob to start the car?
Yeah aftermarket car starters can occasionally cause issues. The previous remotes are erased at point where you press the stop/start button for the 3rd time are the end of the final 10 minute interval - right before it says ready for remote 1. If you were not able to program any remotes back into the vehicle, including the one what you already knows works for it then yes it is possible to end up with no working remotes.

We followed all the process. Got to the point of ready for key #2 and #3 and told me that the key had to.put in the transmitter pocket. The 2018 Equinox premier does not have a transmitter pocket on sight, I put the new key in the cup holder but it never detected it. What do you suggest ?
It should be placed in the front cupholder as the diagram in this video shows - you can also find that diagram on page 36 of your owners manual

you can take it out right away or leave it in - it won't make a difference either way

You need the components set-up in the car as well as for the remote start to work.

I don’t have that Information but I would recommend calling a GM dealership and speaking with their parts department. They should be able to look up the name and part number of what you need.

I appreciate these tutorials. However this doesn't seem to be working for my problem. I got the message on dash panel that I needed a new battery. After replacing battery my fob would no longer lock doors or start engine even unless it was in cup holder. And nothing would enable lock/unlock procedure. I'm a widow so no one to assist. Any suggestions?
Are you sure you installed the new battery correctly? It's common to install them upside down

Yes unfortunately you need two working, already programmed keys in order to program additional keys - otherwise you will need a dealership or automotive locksmith. It doesn't matter how many keys you buy if you only have one already programmed key you will not be able to do it yourself.

Question. I followed the instructions and all three of them programmed. I can’t use the lock function or the auto start function. The fob has an unlock icon on top below that a lock icon below that the auto start icon below that the panic button. Any ideas why they wouldn’t program properly?

First of all, the remote fob needs to match the vehicles options - so you can only use a remote start fob on a vehicle that is already set-up for remote start. Once programmed, the remote should function just like the original including the remote start button ( if the vehicle is equipped)

If your remote start worked prior to adding the second key - the remote start setting may just be turned off on the vehicle itself

the remote always needs to match you vehicles options or there can be issues programming. So, if you add a factory remote start kit I would think the remote start equipped fob should program in but I can't say for sure as I have never done it that way

Hi, I was on your website watching your video (many thanks for that!) and if I understand correctly, after performing the procedure any existing key fob's will no longer work, so essentially programming a new key fob requires you to also re-program the existing working ones, is this correct? Also, I am in Canada and noticed a warning that the programming functionality doesn't work on Canadian cars, is that correct? Is it a different procedure for Canadian cars? That is correct that all fobs are erased and will need to be programmed during the procedure. Unfortunately Canadian vehicles require 2 working key fobs in order to be able to add any additional fobs so you will need a locksmith or automotive locksmith.

I bought a 2020 Equinox and it only had 1 key fob so I ordered a second as a spare. I ordered it from Car and Truck Remote.com. It is a used, reconditioned remote. It said on the package that it needs to be programmed by a locksmith. Do you know if this is true?

If your vehicle doesn’t come with a remote start can you buy a fob with remote start and program it ? To turn on from far away?
You cant just buy the fob with remote start, you need the components in your Equinox set-up as well.

@@paulbean8770 Yes, It's an option they charge for from the factory but you can verify that by just trying to use this procedure with a remote start fob - the programming is the same for the fobs with or without remote start.
