    I have a Benjamin marauder 25 cal. I own property in Oregon where black tail deer run around and pillage my wife’s garden. And for many years now, we get tags for the deers and I shoot them in the head and every year I dropped them where they stand. Average shot about 40 to 60 yards. JSB’s Diablo’s .25.
    One thing I can tell you, it goes right through the skull and into their brain. They drop where they stand. It’s impressive. We get meat on the table and save the wife’s garden vegetables.

    • @Florida_Bullfrog
      @Florida_Bullfrog  4 роки тому +1

      It is not. Nearly all airgun personalities mispronounce it. Wikipedia backs me up and shows it clearly has 4 syllables. dee-AB-e-loh. I put the emphasis on the wrong syllable but my pronunciation is more correct that “diablo” which clearly ignores a syllable.

    • @Florida_Bullfrog
      @Florida_Bullfrog  4 роки тому +1

      Furthermore look on a tin of pellets where the word is clearly spelled “diabolo.” Then wiki diabolo and see that I am right. (Or at least more right than the airgun industry personalities who mispronounce it).

    Central Florida lake Polk Sumter here, I tried for hours to explain difference between BB gun, airsoft gun and a AIR RIFLE in regards to damage/hunting to my buddies, I'm showing them this. They don't get that you can kill birds with these, plus it's way cheaper and more places to use where using a full on rifle might not be the best idea. By my house there's too much development so hunting with air rifle is much easier to do without a backlash :)

    One thing that I noticed while testing diabolo pellets with longish tails, is that upon impact the tail expands and moves forward causing the pellet to “wiggle “ through the target. I’m seeing wounds in groundhogs from .25 pellets that are more devastating than .22 rimfire bullets. The rimfire delivers three times the energy, but most of it is wasted .

    I gained 25 to 30 fps with the .30 cal pellets by lapping the skirt on my plastic card table for 2 or 3 seconds. It creates a little "flange" all around the bottom of the skirt, and seals the bore better, (less air blow by). I have tested it on the crony, (break barrel Hatsan, JSB dome 44.75 gr. 540 out of the tin, up to 585 but usually 569 flanged), and there is no doubt it works for these larger pellets , (sturdy enough to push on the table). I have not tested accuracy yet though.

    It would be cool if there was some thing you could stick in the ballistics gel to simulate bone or bones and see what the effects are. Maybe get some raw beef or pork ribs from the grocery store and just slide them in the gel and make a makeshift rib cage? How do these air guns do when the pellet encounters different bones like a deer or coyotes rib cage or skull or leg bones or pelvis for example? It’s would be cool to test it somehow with ballistics gel.

  • @davyboone1794

    A more realistic test would be to introduce some simulation of bone into the equation. The likelihood of hitting the shoulder bone or a rib is very great and could make a clean Humane kill difficult.
    A headshot on the other hand will drop them in their tracks, no tracking and less chance for a wounding the animal.

      @Florida_Bullfrog  6 років тому +3

      I guided an airgun hunt last weekend and the hunter killed 2 deer with a .308 airgun and made very clean kills. However he was using 99 grain bullets not the lighter pellets in this video. When I kill one on video with my own .308 airgun I will test various loads and pellets on the carcass before I clean it.

      If you look on a package of pellets such as JSBs, you'll see that they're diabolo, not diablo. Most airgun personalities on UA-cam are mispronouncing the term, although my pronunciation also isn't totally correct under the original language either in the sense that the first syllable is "dee" not "di" as I have a tendency of saying it. But it doesn't end in "blo" it ends in "bolo." Diabolo is a term shared in many European languagesfor a spinning top/yo-yo like toy, the shape that pellets somewhat look like. Its based on the Greek dia bolo, which means "to throw across." Think of the Spanish weapon the bolas.

This setup will shoot thru two small pine trees back to back at 40 yards, which I demonstrated in a video a couple of years ago. Hide wouldn't offer any significant resistance.

    Idk waddup with people making piss pudding, but just dump in 3% hydrogen peroxide with the batch and don’t heat it up when adding the gelatin. Heat water first, let it cool down for a minute - add the gelatin, stirr gently wit a tiny stick not a spoon, when all gelatin is dissolved, add about 10oz of 3% h2o2 to a gallon of gelatin mix. Let it cool down with a plastic bag wrapped around it, and then another plastic bag. This creates vapor pressure barriere and keeps it from clouding up too.

      The bags also keep oxidation of the product. What you end up with is something like clear ballistic gello instead of urine gello. There is a preservative based on sulfur you can add to to keep the block from going moldy.

      MThrow Actually its often mispronounced and mispelled as diablo. The proper pronunciation is closer to the way I say it, except the last syllable is where the emphasis is. A diabolo is a kind of spinning top and pellets are named after it because of the similar shape.

  • @metamorphicorder
    @metamorphicorder 2 роки тому

    Thats so silly that they require pcp in a .20 caliber for turkey. There are plenty of breakbarrel .20 cals that can take a wild turkey and are more powerful than pcp in the same caliber. Not to mention that the power difference between .20 and .177 and theres not all that many .20 pcp out there. Its nearly a dead caliber.

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 2 роки тому

      I just looked on pyramid air and the only .20 cal pcp there are the air force guns. Which is fine those are good but a better metric would have been to as you say treat the pellet as a broadhead tipped arrow and kinda look at the best practices for whatever the equivalent of muzzle energy is for archery and just have a req for minimum muzzle energy for pellets. I mean how hard is a turkey to kill? I mean luckily its just the minimum and i guess they didnt want people out there with .177s winging Turkeys and leaving them to suffer. But again plenty of .177 on the higher end with the right ammo are capable of taking turkeys.

      HKGuy Snowman#1 My pronunciation is actually closer to the correct pronunciation than how most airgun personalities say it. It is not diablo. Otherwise it would be spelled that way. It isn’t. Pellets aren’t called “the devil”. They’re called a “spinning top” which is what diabolo means and what the shape of a pellet looks like. Google “diabolo pronounce” and see what it gives you. The only thing I pronounce wrong is what syllable I stress.

      JEFF GRENCIK That’s not true. Pellets are called diabolos because they look like spinning tops, which is what a diabolo is. A diabolo was a popular toy in the late middle ages and during the Age of Exploration. Often they’re in the form of a yo-yo. I’m 100% right about that. Look up air gun pellet on wikipedia. The diabolo toy has a wasp waist design and that’s where the name comes from.

      Been using my .25 Matador to test effectiveness at different ranges/speeds of pellets vs slugs. The traditional diabolo JSBs are IMHO amazing to 50 yrds... very stable at 800-900 fps. Extremely accurate. Above 970 or so they destabilize and wobble. The slugs, with their better BC, are much better performers above 50 yrds... they fly flatter, lose less energy, and become more accurate. They also can be driven faster without becoming unstable. All in all? Pellets for me 50 and under. Slugs 50 and over.
