Hello man, I own a BMW 118d N47 but stopped by on this video to tell you that I learned a lot more than I already knew and when I next go to the mechanics I will make sure I put it into use. Many thanks! I wish you all the best in future, subscribed.
Thanks👍🏻
This is how you record and explain mechanical stuff! Great channel and content, keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Best yt channel man, George thanks for the level of detail of your videos, making working on your own car so much better!!!
This is by far the best egr delete video. Thanks
Appreciate it!
Great content like always mate
simple and clean very much appreciate
Hey, do you know what is the other hose that is next on the egr hose is connected? ? Its the controler for the turbo??
Brilliant video straight to point. No dilly dally my name is etc thankyou so much. Car sorted. Garages rip u off telling you £700 turbo. Ur the best
Was thinking about it myself. Just replaced my two stats thou so probably leave it till summer. Great to see you starting on the oily bits😄
Makes sense to do it first to make space in the engine bay😅

Very good explaination!
Nice video and so helpful !
I cant understand what’s the difference between deleting egr . And deleting the egr and the egr cooler .
I have an bmw x5 m57n and I love it
I am planning to do the delete !
After delete did i still need the prasure convertor valve ? If i can block the vacum before not after it ? Or i will get code and one more question i did softuare egr delete and psy delete and i get code for emissions 4501 how to remove it ? Thanks
Hi. Thanks for your tip, this video help me to stop the coolant from running through the exhaust system. But why is my car getting hot inside the cabin, and after i put on 20km or so then the car switch off
The kit comes with a small grub screw and a long vented grub, I can see you used the small grub to block the vacuum line. Did you screw in the vented screw into the threaded hole on side of race pipe or did you leave the threaded hole as it was?
Great job as usual george.
Cheers Darrell!
Is it possible to do an EGR delete without removing the DPF or should these be done at the same time?
I know is an old video but - instead of complete removal of the system I saw someone used a semi-blanking plate on exhaust pipe with a 7mm hole - the goal was to reduce the amount of recirculation gas without triggering the check engine light and still reduce the temperature in combustion chamber - any experience with that?
George Sir, I've followed your very informative videos, my lad has an 320d 09 plate, he broke down, drivers side intercooler hose collapsed under load, have changed this, now found out egr valve broken, have changed this. Turbo turns very slight play. Car lacks power. Any ideas where to look. Appreciate its an unknown. Thanks
On US you have to have tune to run thus setup but makes major difference. You have to get intake as well or you will be smoking...
HELLOGeorge, i had a split in the large intake hose that fits on to the EGRpipe, but when i started the engine after fitting new hose it was sucking the new pipe in, any sugestions, Geoff, ie super videos.
GREAT and for the engine light? OBD?
Did you buy the silicone pipe separately as just looked at purchasing the kit from your link and no mention of the hose.
can you please send me a link to purchase the kit , your videos have taught me alot thanks mate
Hey🙂
I saw your another video, when you remove/delete the swirl flap from the M47...and now,I'm watching this one. Could you help a bit?:
Have to delete the EGR+Cooler also,if already removed/deleted the swirl flap?! Many Thanks Your Help👋
Good video 🙌🏼
Thank you 🙌
do you need to remap ? or it only needs to be fizical delete ?
My pipe from the exhaust manifold broke so I am considering this delete, but I am worried about passing inspection 😅 thanks for a comprehensive video!
just blank the egr exhaust then with a plate. nobody see it.
My 730d with 265 hp e38 made it thru inspection . The removal of old egr systems actually decreases the emissions in alot of cases . Since egr when it becomes older starts to leak 😅
Thanks What does the socket you connect to the turbo hose do?
Good videos !! i have 2001 e46 320d pre face
Had you cleaned your egr prior to doing this video?
Anyone who is worried about climate change or emissions should not be watching these videos. If you want to improve your life keep watching here.
No one here is worried at our that stuff
@@justinkatipa9577 good to learn that. keep going boys.

Please are thère any video about deleting egr for 2.2 chevy captiva or cruze (deleting and let the egr on engine)
Greate work, easy to follow..
Glad you liked it!
Fantastic video
Hi, i have an M47TU2 on an 2006 E90 318d. If i remove the EGR Cooler, do i have to worry about the DPF Regenration? Or can i just remove the whole thing and i have nothing to reprogram? Many thanks!
As a relatively new owner of an E61 535d, can I ask what the purpose/benefit of doing this is? Thanks
Thanks for this video, will definitely be doing mine! Can I just ask, will this kit fit on an LCI 525d?
Probably not. But there will be a specific one for that. Your pipes will have quick clips rather than jubilee clips ect
Hello thanks for the very clear and informative video.
After the work does the EGR delete throw an engine management light?
If so I assume it needs to be coded out or mapped out?
Needs mapping out yes
Where is the best place to map it after her removal and how much it cost
Great job mate as usual , keep it up !
one question , in case i have an throttle body ? what should i do ? thanks
Exact same process if you have the anti shudder valve but you’ll need the M57tu2 kit👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters will this delete throw an error code up I have an X3 2.0d with shudder valve on the end . I'm assuming it's vacum operated will this chuck EML on ? Cheers
Is it possible to leave all this in place but just blank it off so it doesn't cause problems with mot?
Hi George, A couple of questions please... So there is no need for any software mapping to avoid errors when deleting this? Also, I understand the MOT tester can't see the removal due to engine covers hence should pass the MOT, but are the emissions okay? MOT doesn't test of NOx but without the EGR isnt there more smoke? Does this still pass an MOT?
Should have no issues as long as Engine is healthy.. Best to map it out
On Euro 5 N47 cars will go into limp mode you need to delete EGR from the ECU too
Hello there. After canceling the egr, downshifting started to be slower when it came to the slope, also the downhill engine brake does not work anymore, the gear shifts seem to be cumbersome, why?
You will have to get a tune that makes the car run like it has never had an egr.
Get it mapped out from the ECU.
May aswell remap it
Great vid george
Thanks mate
Can you do this if you have a dpf filter fitted? 530d E61 LCI
Hello George! I have BMW X5 e70 want to delete egr and dpf! Where are you located ?
do you recommend to compensate for the temp loss of the egr delete, a delete aswell of the viscous fan? especially now on winter
No need really!
Are those coolant blanks working? Did you have any leak? I want to delete egr in my m47 and i wonder is it going to hold. Do you think adding 2 part resin glue to those blanks would be good?
These held fine👍🏻
My exhaust blanking plate becomes extremely hot is this what’s meant to happen, thank you
Good Vid tnx.
Brilliant video
Cheers!
hello george. it was the first video I saw and I really liked it, very detailed, congratulations. I have e46 150hp with this engine with the egr canceled but I don't know how the service was performed. it turns out that the car temperature rarely exceeds 65 °. the main coolant thermostat has already been changed and hence the problem is with the egr thermostat. what can i do to resolve? thank you and continue with the excellent work.
I'm having the exact same problem. Im hoping it's because my egr has been removed but the egr cooler is still in place just blanked with steel inserts. I'm going to try and remove the egr cooler completely and use the rubber blanking plugs for coolant hoses used in this video. Hopefully that sorts it 🤞
To resolve you will either need new egr thermostat or remove completely as in video and map out egr.
Great vid 👍🏾. I just removed mine from e90 didn't get eml light for some reason. Runs much smoother
Good stuff! Yes you won’t as it is vacuum controlled not electronically controlled but you will have an error code until you get it mapped out👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters spoke to soon 😄, it just came on 20miles later. Will get it mapped out once i change my control arms
All that is needed is clean the valve and block the 6mm I'd vacuum hose works a treat on the M47R
You’ll get EML on
Thanks for the video man. Have you noticed that the car needs more time to warm up after egr cooler and thermostat delete? People complains about it when done this mod.
Thanks
Yes the coolant will take slightly longer to reach temp in the winter but the benefits are worth it in my opinion
@@GeorgeAusters Thank you. Is the temperature gauge moving down on highway or when it rises to middle temp stands there? I have a m47 and with egr cooler and EGR off my gauge goes lower on highway on constant speed. It decreases to 70ºC that´s why I have to put again EGR termosthat again. Thanks
If you having a sticky egr valve is it worth deleting?
Plus can you do this if still got dpf still on the car or remove that aswell?
My car is a bmw 730d on a 07 plate.
Remove both the EGR and DPF if you want reliability
Thank you for your reply I will get that done. Where would you recommend. I live in the uk?
But is good to explain the stuff overall
Do ya have to map it out? Or will it still run the same once blanked? I've blanked mine and since is running poor with code 1613 smooth running control with no other codes any help I'd really appreciate cheers
Yes needs mapping out
Do you have to remove the egr software also once you physically remove it?
Yea. It will bring the EML on without a software delete.
You can buy a cheap obd tool to delete the code just before an m.o.t and drive the rest of the time with the light on.
Please be aware if you have a dpf it will need removing or else the car won’t do a regen with a faulty EGR code.
👍👍👍👍gracias youssef de España
Hi,with the Egr removed,do we need to do anything on the computer to prevent warning lights and errors?
Yes need to map it out
off topic but do you think this is the best 2lt engine on the e60? i am seeing an lci with the m47 but undecided. thank you!
If I’m honest I like both the M47 and N47.. M47 will last longest with little maintenance but the N47 is more efficient and powerful
If you like your life and want to have money to food, bills, fuel, and some extra to maybe travel places and also mods to the car AS well you choose the m47 👍 just chiptune it, downpipe and rest muffler delete and maybe a bigger intercooler with egr delete and you should have easy over 220-230hp and with good conscience AS well 😂👍 coming from an m47 owner on the 5th year 🤟
the N47 is a great engine . but it kills chains . the M47 is a more reliable alternative , but keep in mind these are getting old by now , so costs will always be there xD
how does this work when it comes to MOT time?
will you need to drain the cooling system or did you just remove it with coolant in it and put the blanks on?
I didn’t drain the coolant first
Hi there, where did you get the kit with the silicone hose? Not listed on Darkside. Thank you.
The hose is no longer needed👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters what do you mean? How do you connect then please?
Is a remap needed after EGR delete?
In a simple words, remooving EGR and its cooling pipe. It is enougth to stop, block vacuum pipe to the solenoid Who is in charge for EGR. And it is done.
Looking at ordering this George for my m47. Will I get error codes and will it increase emissions?
You may get an EML after 20 miles so best to map it out
@@GeorgeAusters hey man how can you map it out
Après avoir mis le kit,sur mon M47 de 2004,témoin moteur orange ? J'attends votre réponse merci
Will this throw an error up without a map?
my compliments George, I also thought about removing it because I believed that the EGR was causing a malfunction on my N47D20C (240,000 km), during acceleration, only when the engine rpm reaches 1500 rpm, a net vacuum is created, as if the engine shut down for a fraction of a second. I thought it was caused by the poor electronic disconnection of the EGR due to sludge or carbon from the exhaust system, but now it is clean, like the two mass air flows: despite this, the problem remains as before. It could be a valvetronic problem, so now I would like to clean the two solenoid compartments and the filter compartments, but I can't find them! Do you know where they are located? Am I on the inaccessible side of the supply chain?
If you have the answer, you would be of great help to me.
thank's
Andrea, from Italy
Solenoid compartmens=vanos solenoid
Filter compartmens=no-return valve
Do you have the link for this? Can’t find them in darkside
Did the new hose that fits the egr to intake come with the kit?
Or can I use the original hose?
Hi, I’m getting mixed reviews on this egr delete. I have a bmw N57S engine on my x5 and on a forum some people are against deleting the cooler, however my egr has been mapped out anyway! Something about the coolant flow or something ? Can you pls shed some light on this and also is there any long term issues you’ve had ? TIA
Never had an issue doing this
@@GeorgeAusters might be having egr cooler issues, can the coolers be cleaned? Or would you just delete altogether ? Would I need to delete the dpf also ?
Hi George. I have the 330d f31 2013 (N57). I deleted the EGR off the car but only blanking plates. I had a letter from BMW saying they are recalling the EGR cooler. If they replace the cooler will they spot my delete or shall I just remove the cooler? I think the cooler has an issue with cracking. Thanks.
I’d remove the blanking plates, let them fit the new cooler and then do a full valve and cooler delete👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters Thanks for the reply. Is there any benefit then letting them fit the new cooler if I'm going to remove it anyway?
It says that the reason is that it can crack and leak and then EGR overheats and could start a fire or along those lines. However with mine blanked and having no swirl flaps it's probably less likely? My M57 335d had the EGR blanked too as well as swirl flaps removed but I never received a letter about the cooler, the cooler was still on the vehicle. Another issue is they may remap it back to standard identifying the DPF isn't there.......
Thanks
Dan
Hi, I have there e90 320d I've had the dpf out and deleted, egr deleted but not blanked, swirls flaps out and a stage 1, feels a little better but deffo not 206bhp like I got told it will have, should this fix the problem? Thanks
Removing the EGR makes no difference to the peak power figure, same with removing the swirl flaps
Hello George.I have an E83 M47TU.Can I delete EGR via software only without dissasembling all this hardware?I mean it is necessary to do all this job?Isn't the same if someone programms DDE to delete EGR function,so it stays always closed?
The m47 egr is vacuum operated so needs to be blanked. The main benefit is the improved space in the engine bay when removing all this👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters do you wine and dine there since its a spaceial benefit hahaha
hi George, did you do the diagnostics when you removed the egr?
I had it mapped out
@@GeorgeAusters Will the car go into limp mode before being mapped out?.
@@peterhodson59 Usually
Did you have to code anything out of the ecu?
Yes you need to do that on some models. If you don t do it engine control lamp will turn on and you don t have full power anymore. On m47 from 2003 needs +40mg/hub fresh air...you can do this via tool32
my bmw e91 m47 is already remapped can i still remove my egr valve and cooler? will there be any issues?
Probably not. Usually it gets deleted out of the software on the remap! So although it’s still there it may just not operate!
I suggest just taking off the intake hose to the EGR and get someone to Rev the car while you look inside to see if it actually operates! If it stays shut then it’s been mapped out anyway! Leave it.
is it possibile to just close egr vacuum hose, and make egr not working, instead of regular egr delete procedure ?
yes or no ? and,wil that throw some errors on board computer ?
If you bung off the presure pipe will tht just do the same as this or is there issues with doing it that way i have 330d m57
What do you mean by the pressure pipe mate?
@@GeorgeAusters sorry the vacuum hose that goes to the pressure converter
@@user-qq3df1mb3k There will be no exhaust flowing through, but there will be pressure in the egr cooler and it will go bad probably. Best to do as video shows
@@niklasnaper6596 if there is no pressure from turbo, the egr exhaust valve in the manifold doesn't open, so no exhaust in EGR pipes.......
Is it going to work if I first take it to a shop to switch it off from the software and then remove the EGR myself? Great video as always George!
Yes👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters If Egr valve is vacuum only then no coding is necessary.
@@italianjob-vx6hp that’s only on the first ones, second gen (FL) is electronically and will throw a fault code if not removed in software

Needs mapping out
@George Austers thanks for replying.. so how does one go about mapping it out? Can I do it through Carista or obd scanner tools?

What other problems did u occure might be the inletvalve to carter or turbo
I got my egr mapped out, now I'm looking to delete the egr cooler and thermostat.
I read somewhere online that there were cars originally without an egr cooler, so it got me thinking is it possible that there was a return pipe without the connector for the egr cooler,
but I can't seem to find anything. The only thing I could find is the normal version 11 53 2 249 779 and 11 53 7 802 630.
As for the lower radiator water hose, I think there are two versions, 11 53 7 789 718 - with the connector for the egr cooler,
for the second version I found two different part numbers, 11 53 7 787 916 and 11 53 2 249 779 - both without the connector for the egr cooler.
If there is a lower radiator hose shouldn't a return pipe without an opening for the egr connector also exist (shown at 6:28)?
I'd love to know this too. Even though it makes no difference the oem look is much better than capping or plugging the hose
@@bandit12-- Found something.
−E53 X5 3.0d M57 uses a return pipe without an egr cooler connector, the part number is 11532247918.
But the curvature of the pipe is slightly different and it may not allow mounting on m47n and m57n engines.
If someone has access to an X5 3.0d M57 parts car it would be great if he could check if this pipe can be mounted on an m57n engine.
I still wonder why it is thought to be a good idea to delete/bypass the EGR.
My two E39 530Ds (1 manual 173k miles, 1 auto 170k miles) have clean EGRs so I haven't felt the need to bypass them.
As well as reducing the oil/carbon that goes into the exhaust the EGR also reduces the temperature of the combustion.
How does having extra oil/carbon going into the exhaust affect the catalyseurs, DPF filters?
does it affects co2 gas emition ??
Yes.
Is it possible for antifreeze coolant to get into crankcase oil from EGR ?
I am getting water in me oil
What about coolant temps?I still have the cooler and the engine works at 56/60 degrees.I think that the EGR thermostat is gone.
Coolant temps stay the same
After removing the EGR cooler, does the cooling water warm up more slowly?
Slightly yes
Where did you get the red rubber to blank the coolent pipes?
Came with the kit
More freebies. Smashing it lad
