They basically just spit in the face of their own fanbase, and the guy who probably generated them tons of revenue, and value overall.

International fan here, I dunno who Shannon is but he said something interesting. He said when you pay your stars more you only get more of what they're already doing or words to that effect. Now he was talking about their behaviour I think. But here's the flipside of that, he already gave you a run to the finals at 25, he taken you to the WCF once before that. What's more of that, more finals appearances, a championship, multiple championships? That's what's "more" from last season. Now we'll never know. But one thing is clear the Mavs didn't give Luka a wave goodbye, they changed the locks then gave him the middle finger. Is that what he deserved?
Judging from the Adam Silver era of the NBA, Dallas has a legitimate concern that Luka may do what other superstars do... Sign the SuperMax and then demand a trade not long after to a location of his choice thus lowering his trade value.
Maybe not ..... but in the context of having 70mil a year on the line.... makes it a much harder decision.

I've been a Luka fan before most ppl even knew he was. I live in Montenegro which is part of ex Yugoslavia along with Slovenia where Luka is from. I knew about him and was hyped for him since way before the NBA. With that being said, I have to be honest and say I can see why the Mavs weren't thrilled with him and ultimately decided to move on from him. He's so incredibly talented that he doesn't think he has to work hard and take things as seriously as he should. He reminds me of Shaq in that sense. He's constantly not in peak condition, drinking alcohol, plays horrible defense because his lack of conditioning and spend more time complaining to refs than he does hustling back on defense. I gave him a pass up until now because he was young, and the Mavs did too, but he better lock in 110%, get in the best shape he can be in and achieve his max potential just like Joker did, otherwise he's gonna be another Westbrook type player who will leave a legacy because of his insane stat lines but won't ever be a true champion and thus not mentioned in GOAT convos. I hope this doesn't happen because he's been my guy since he was a teen but I can't let personal bias delude me from the reality of his current situation. He's in LA under the brightest lights so he better adopt that Mamba Mentality, not just the competitiveness in game but more importantly the work ethic and discipline behind the scenes that made Kobe so great.
