How to Change the diff oil on a 1986 Yamaha YFM200DXS Moto 4 ATV.
Drain Plug - amzn.to/3sxRL0Q (This one says Polaris but works fine and comes with the copper washer.) Use this washer. Without it I have found I get a small occasional drip.)
If you want to search for it elsewhere it is... YFM200DXS 1986 1NU USA PLUG, STRAIGHT SCREW (1J7) 9034014046, for Yamaha
I use 80wt 90 diff oil for the change.

When i had to change the diff oil on mine I never even thought of tipping over the quad...I used a tube to syphon the fluid out from the fill hole. PSA diff fluid is not particularly delicious and I wouldn't recommend drinking it.

Did the diff oil change stop your rear end noise? I think i have the same thing going on with my Moto4 350...it was basically a barn find that I got running and back together. Thanks. Good video.

In this case it did. The stuff that came out was rust colored and likely had not been changed in many many years. I ended up changing twice to really things flushed out.

Use a wet clutch safe oil or it will feel down on power with a slipping clutch and could cause damage. There’s a dipstick on mine. I was thinking the fluid total might be stamped on the side but it’s down at my brother’s place at the moment and I can’t check. But the big thing… wet clutch safe oil.

That would be a good thing to do but depending on the noise there may already be damage in the backend. The rear ends on these old quads is pretty solid. You might try to determine if the noise is an intermittent rattle from your rear brake rotor rattling on the splines. Hard to say without more indication of where the noise is coming from but if it’s rear end id take a look there.
