It's time to pull the Yellow 1986 Moto 4 YFM200DX out of the lineup for a refresh. In this video I completely tear down and rebuild the rear brake system. Rear brakes work great now. The trick... Setting the neutral drag in the right order of operations makes all the difference in having a good rear brake with room for quick trail adjustments. If you've ever struggled to get your rear cable pull brake to work well for you this is a good video for you.
In this video I completely rebuild the back cable brake system

Watching this video brought back a lot of good memories. When I was 8 years old my pappy got my brother and sister and me a 1985 Yamaha moto 4 200cc. It had absolutely no fenders. And absolutely no suspension.
    I gave it the nickname
    THE BEAST.
That poor machine was rolled I don't know how many times? Flipped I don't know how many times? Submerged under water I don't know how many times. Set on fire twice. I know that one for sure. I actually fractured my neck on it in 15. The thing just wouldn't die. So that's why it was nicknamed
THE BEAST. Or the NEIGHBOR WHORE. CAUSE EVERY KID IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD I RODE HER AT LEAST ONCE

Stumbled across this searching for a hitch mount for my '89 YFM200. It looks like the hitch set up you have on your YFM200 would fit perfectly on my machine. I have been searching all over for a hitch and can't find anything like yours. Did you fabricate it yourself or purchase somewhere? Thank you!

This one came on the quad but... I've noticed that a lot of the early big bear quads seem to already have them installed and they look like they would fit but I haven't tried. This one does not look custom fabricated to me so I'm betting it came off another unit. I have three yfm350 big bears. 2wd 89 and two 4x4 yfm350fwt '87's. All have a similar looking hitch. I can't say for sure but I'd start but looking at those.

Hi I have the same exact quad as the one in the video and was wondering if you knew if it had a oil filter or not

    • @VermontLife
      @VermontLife  2 роки тому

Yes, down by your right heel are three allen head bolts around a circular cap. The bolts are long and sometimes stick so go slow. Behind that is the oil filter.

Could you not make a mold to recreate the front fairing in fiberglass, rather than pvc, snookie

Hello is there any way I could contact you and ask a few questions on how to properly use this quad. I got the same one but it was sitting in a barn for a few years. You seem like you know what your talking about and could answer some of my questions. If there is anyway we could contact each other that would be greatly appreciated

@@VermontLife ok first how to you shift through the gears correctly I haven’t been able to figure it out yet and I don’t know if your supposed to make it idle and then shift or if there is just a clutch I haven’t found yet

@@VermontLife second have you had any problems using the electric start and the battery. The electric start use to work fine and now it takes 45 minutes to charge up the battery for it to turn over just a couple times

@@VermontLife 3rd is there any chance you have a spare pull start assembly that would work for this quad. When I first received this quad it was missing it’s pull start assembly. I am willing to buy a pull start assembly?

Sounds like your battery is bad. You should be able to start it with a battery charger that has ‘engine start’ mode if needed. Sometimes I have to do that in the winter when it’s really cold. Another option which hopefully isn’t the case might be a bad crank shaft bearing but I’d focus on your battery first.

Why wouldn’t you etch the rotor while you were in there. Pads will just glaze again.

In retrospect I absolutely should have.

What's the easiest way to do this? Also do you know what a good option for rear pads are? I finally took mine apart last night and I wanna pick up new pads and I think I need a new cable as well for the foot pedal.

@jonathangaliano2617 I can’t say I have much experience with deglazing. These days I use sandpaper and go ‘with the grain’ but I’m sure there are many better ways. For the pads I have been getting them on Amazon. If you search for Tao Tao 110 cc brake pads or TaoTao 50cc scooter brake pads you’ll see some options.
