Nice job!! My mom a dad bought a 1970 Chevelle ss stripe delete the had the dealership add the stripes so the strip were on top of the green paint color. The dealership had the red Chevelle with the black stripes on the show room floor, from the factory the car with functional cawl hood option the black for the stripes were painted first then the stencil for the stripes applied the the hood was painted red, no clear back in those days. You basically did it the same way! Nice job!!
Just watched all your videos, 70 chevelle was my second car, had for 3 years, soooo many great memories, loved your content, and am excited to see final ---hurry up with that will ya?!?! LOL j/k
Thanks for the stripe detail getting ready to paint my Chevelle I got opgi stencil kit and directions are really incomplete after watching your video it really helped make sense
I would love to have seen you wetsand the clear coat and knock down those lines from the stripes. Then hit it with a flow coat. Looks amazing nevertheless. Nice work!
Just a couple of comments questions. How you do you deal with the Mil difference between the stripes and base coat? At what point are you knocking dust nibs off with the 600? prior to clear or after flash off between black coats? Thanks
Definitely removing dust nibs between black coats. to deal with the mill difference I put down an extra coat of clear on the base coat before clearing off the entire hood with multiple coats. I don't claim to be an expert but finish came out nice.
Making some progress going to get all the glass put in this week. And bumpers badges and emblems are all back on still have to do interior work. Headliner.
I am fighting this right now. Camaro 1970. Z stripes. The painter absolutely does not want to do it. finally got it done. 3K extra later. Perfect quality and blended into clear no lines.EDIT: your lines are not perfect. to each their own but if your watching this the thick outer lines, no stencil kit. minor edge artifacts. Mine does not have this its perfect. BUT I paid thousands too he did it himself for paint and time.
Good for you doing it yourself! Thats what hotrods are about.

love the videos. Contemplating doing the same on my car. What air compressor are you using?
it is a cheapo and a bit loud but works good. General air 80 gal 6 HP. A new quieter compressor is on my wish list.
Looking really good, keep up the good job !! :- )

Nice work! How long did you wait before applying the strip kit over the black paint?
Let the paint cure for 7 days
How’s it coming? Really looking forward to see the Chevelle all done!
