Thank you for a great an helpful video! I have been doing hot compresses for a while now, and was looking for that kind of video. I searched and searched in youtube but nothing as useful and educating as your video was found, until today algorith decided to recommend it to me. The thing is that I am using single-use steam masks that all have a "steam eye mask" or "spa eye mask" on the package and I didn't think of searching for the "hot compress". The fact is that all videos I found under "steam eye mask" etc contain exactly 0 info, especially compared to yours. So maybe you could add some of those words and phrases to your search keywords (if you haven't already) and some people like me who are looking to educate themselves on "steam eye masks" will see your video faster.
So far this video is a gem for a people like me . I didn't even know that reusable "steam eye masks" exist, and will look out for it in my area, because I feel really bad of littering planet with single-used ones. And I'm actually relieved to know that it's actually helpful for my eyes, because I wasn't 100% sure that doing this is safe for my eyes. Also, subscribed and liked, because thank you, that's why.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation on using hot compresses and the MOA behind dry eyes due to mgd! I'm a pharmacist and ppl come up all the time for counseling on dry eyes! We do recommend hot compresses when they have dry rheum buildup or eye infections but now I know to do so as well for dry eyes. I hope you get some sponsors! Your production quality is top-notch :)

I am currently with anterior blepharitis in the lower eyelids of both eyes, I’ve had both anterior and posterior blepharitis in both eyes, 4 surgery and 2 applications of cortisteroid, and you are the first optometrist to explain how and why to make a hot compress. I’ve never noticed dry eyes or changes in the eyesight, but I have astigmatism and don’t always wear glasses, so maybe that’s is why I’ve never noticed, regardless, I’ve always had peeling of skin in the eyelids, and itching and falling of eyelashes almost daily, and sometimes gaps in the eyelids because of so many eyelashes falling, thank you for the video.

I’ve been on Dipixent injections for very severe eczema for nearly 3 years now. It’s a miracle for the eczema, but my eyes have been so dry and irritated lately. apparently these injections can cause eye issues They just keep recommend drops drops and more drops but the optometrist said that they evaporate as soon as I put them in! So now I’m going to try this. Thank you so much for your valued information.🙏 my eyes have recently become very blurry and I’ve had to wear permanent glasses. I’m hoping it’s not to do with the injections.🤦‍♀️

Both worked but not always. I'm gonna try this one too in hopes that it works more consistently.

This is so much more helpful than my optometrists suggestion of "try a heat pad".
One thing I have found though is that after using the compress, I develop a thick sticky layer on my eye. From what you've said this sounds like the waxy/oily stuff we're trying to get rid of.
My problem is that I can't seem to get it out of my eyes. My eyes are very dry after using the compress, which makes blinking uncomfortable, so I'm resorting to wiping my eyes with a damp cotton pad to clean them. I'm not sure if this is a the right thing to use though? Or even if this layer is what I think it is? Or if I should be removing it at all? 🤔🤔🤔

You’re kinda talking to the converted here when it comes to OptiSoothe. I use both compress ( not a lot or near enough lately...... I know I should use it more consistently) and lid wipes ( which I use everyday...... as it’s a great way to gently wipe “sleep” and gunk away) I thing I do when using the compress is use one set of wipes before putting the compress on my lids. That way my lids are clean. It saves on the amount of time and washes of the compress needs. Then after I’ll use another two wipes on my eye lids and around the margins. Also after I do all that I’ll put one drop in each eye of Hylo-Fresh or Cromo-Fresh ( in a vain attempt to get the red out. Ha ha at my age though) ............ Oh and if people are finding it especially hard trying to buy the OptiSoothe Lid Wipes, it’s probably because I’ve bought them. Sorry but I need them............. By way Your pronunciation of shedding was fine......... Just wish an Ophthalmologist could find a cure for Blepharitis. So we all could shed the constant lid care regime............... ⚛️☮️ 👀 🌏

Yeah tea bags aren’t my favourite option but if you can get the temperature to close to 42 degrees then I guess it could work?

Amazing explanation! I was diagnosed by my eye doc with blepharitis after I got eyelash extensions once and had to take them off because my eyes were rly bothered :( still having problems ~ 2 months later with eyelid swelling. I see no flakes so it’s probably posterior bleph right?

    • @AntonioTheOptom
      @AntonioTheOptom  4 роки тому +1

Lash extensions can cause both! For anterior bleph I would recommend lid wipes and posterior hot compresses! 😃

Kelly R have you found a cure yet? Did tbe compresses work for you? I had the same with my eyes and 1st time lash extensions from Halloween 2020. Tried eye dr and antibiotics. No changes. I ordered a myobelium gland expression tool. I finally got it today. I'm going to try it!

My doctor told me to just do 10m heat and then blink 10 times instead of doing massages which he says can be bad for the cornea. What is your view? Also, he said I don't have demodex so I can just clean my eyelids once or twice a week with jj soap.

I started using an oil on my eyes about 3 months ago and I just realized my eyes are uncomfortable and dry all day so I looked at them and notice the glands are blocked badly on both eyes. Will this technique help fix that or do I need to see a dr and if so what would they do? I stopped using the oil but don’t know if it’ll stay that way for good? Thank you!

I read an article that said if the compress is too hot, it can warp your cornea. It said it should be between 100-110 degrees. Is this true, Doctor?

    • @AntonioTheOptom

The literature suggests an optimum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, from my experience this temperature works without problems!

How important is it to clean your eyes after hot compress? I do hot compress morning and night right before cleansing my eyelids. Sometimes I want to do a hot compress in the middle of the day though (I have severe MGD) but I don’t want to cleanse in the middle of the day. That would be too irritating for me.
